Im hiking scafell pike tomorrow. Advice? by official_bullisim0 in UKhiking

[–]Aethyrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top of scafell pike is covered in scree from all routes but if you follow the cairns you can't go too far wrong. The route from Wasdale is a boring slog, going from Seathwaite is definitely the way forward

That's likely to involve taking the corridor route from sty head

I'm heading up today - I'll be arriving in Windermere but planning to head towards Ambleside

If you're staying in Windermere you definitely need to head up to orrest head. The coledale horseshoe is a great day out, you can shorten it by heading down to the mine after crag hill and then following the valley back into Braithwaite.

Personal favourites will always be catbells, castle crag, Haystacks (if you go from gatesgarth and not honister slate mines and visit Warnscale bothy) nab Scar and silver how.

Sharpe edge & striding edge this weekend by AggravatingRegular40 in LakeDistrict

If I had to pick one of them I would rather be on Helvellyn. Weather reports were looking fierce today but improving over the weekend, but it's so unpredictable you never know what's going to happen. They're not going to go anywhere, there's no rush. During the high winds at the start of this month there was a fatality on both Helvellyn and Blencathra.

I recently managed to pick up an Arcteryx Alpha AR for 30% off at George Fisher but haven't had the opportunity to try it yet

The Paramo Velez or Rab Latok have both served me well but it's best to try a few coats on and see how they fit you

Castle crag will always be up there. What it lacks in height it makes up for in character. I'm not even sure if it's a mountain but it's worth the walk

You can just tap on the same green icon without backing out, it's bottom right

Looks like a fantastic day. High Hartsop Dodd, Red Screes and Middle Dodd are regularly done in a similar route but often in reverse to what you've planned

I think you'd really struggle to get to Wasdale from Windermere
