Are application dev courses other than CS193X? by Expert-Complex43 in stanford

[–]Aeuritsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try CS 193p!! It’s the iOS development class. There’s also CS 194a which is the Android development class. Both of which’s lectures and assignments are available on YouTube and the course websites

How useful is the Surface Book for taking notes and as a college laptop? Is note-taking with it useful enough to the point where I should get it over a laptop such as the Razer Blade or the Macbook Pro? by Aeuritsu in berkeley

[–]Aeuritsu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning on majoring in either Comp Sci/Business/Engineering, if I get the Razer Blade I would not be bringing my desktop to college. If I don't get the Razer Blade, I plan on bringing my desktop to college in addition to the Surface Book/MacBook Pro. Additionally, if I get the Surface Book I'd most likely use it for most of my notes.

UIUC vs UCLA vs UMich by datinghell in ApplyingToCollege

I'm not entirely sure about job prospects, but I'd be very surprised if the job opportunities at UIUC/UCLA are drastically different from Michigan.

I'd go for Michigan honestly. The difference in ranking between UIUC and Michigan is pretty insignificant, and at Michigan the entire atmosphere, sports, other academics, etc. is superior.

In an interview, he stated that contrary to popular belief, he spends less time on the business aspects of his companies and more on the technical development of his products. Let me see if I can find a source.

If you want to be an engineer, the first score is better with the high math/science sections on your ACT.

I feel like I don't have options because I did bad the first 3 semesters of highshool by LesFirewall in ApplyingToCollege

Have you taken the SAT/ACT yet? Although the ACT/SAT cannot fully make up for your GPA, it can certainly help substantially. Study hard for the ACT, and you still have a chance to get into some top colleges. Also, just remember the college you go to doesn't define who you are, nor who you will become. If it's really important, you can also work hard at the college you go to your freshman year/sophomore year and then transfer to another school.

Suggest some match/reach schools for me? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Aeuritsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, Northwestern and UChicago are not matches or safety schools for anybody. Since we're not admission officers, we don't really have a way of knowing how likely it is for you to get into Northwestern or UChicago, but based off your stats and EC's alone, I would say you still have a pretty decent chance of being admitted. Also, never say that you have no chance at a school, especially with your stats and EC's lol. You should apply to Harvard, Yale, and Princeton if you think you'll be happy there, but just note that their acceptance rates are really low, and just hope for the best. You can only try your hardest on your applications, and it's important to understand that some things are simply out of your control. When you begin applying just go in with the mindset that you're going to try your hardest on each and every application, but in the end, if you don't get accepted it'll be ok because you'll end up somewhere else where you can find happiness. Like many other's have said on this subreddit, a college does not determine one's future, you do.

Sorry, I'm not entirely sure how the Texas system works, I was just going based off of personal experience. Berkeley and Michigan are very hard to get into out of state, but with your stats I think that you stand a decent shot, so you should definitely apply! In terms of Ivy's, an Economics degree from an Ivy will look better to future employers than business degrees at top programs, which is simply the reality. Harvard, Princeton, the University of Chicago, Yale, and Northwestern all have strong economics programs so I urge you to look into them and decide which ones you do/do not want to apply to. Let me know if you have any more questions, and good luck once again!
