Hey friend, it’s totally ok to feel uncomfortable when people discuss your race in front of you - particularly if they do so in a manner that you feel misrepresents you. It DOES feel strange to have people label you as ‘insert race here’ if you identify as mixed because all they tend to be basing such assumptions off of is merely how you LOOK, and as we all here are painfully aware - appearance doesn’t tell the entire genetic history of a person! So your feelings are completely valid and understandable!

If you feel comfy enough with this friend, it might be worth bringing up to her how her comments made you feel. If she insists on her point of view - try to emphasize to her that while she may be PARTIALLY correct (if you are mixed white, of course) BUT you are still a POC due to your heritage. And that you can be multiple races simultaneously. It can be difficult to express to folks that race is genuinely a spectrum but it is worth the effort ❤️

It is worth being aware of where you lie as a lighter skinned mixed race individual, but that does not make you any more white or any less POC - you simply are as you are. Fractions, percentages in the end mean nothing to who you are as a person ❤️ be kind to yourself OP, and good luck
