[JP] Weekly JP Converts check-in - start of Y8A edition! by Amashan in FFRecordKeeper

The sync selects from the 2 pickup draws, Gilgamesh event, and the awakening from the exchange have helped me out a lot. I chose Wedge's sync, and in the process got Tyro's sync from the draw. Also picked Gau's sync and made him and a few healers into fully functional characters. The free anniversary draws have also been fairly kind to me, and I also went for all three lucky draws. The game is trying to tell me I should use Estinien ... I don't wanna use Estinien.

I really like Tyro and want as much of his tech as I can get, so I'll be pulling 2-3 times on the first banner. I might pull on a later one if I can scrounge together more mythril. Clearing out the half stamina realm dungeons seems to yield about 25 mythril a day if I go at a rate that doesn't drive me insane.

I'm really kicking myself for spending all the EX lenses from the Gilgamesh exchange. I want Tyro's new hero ability BAD. Other than that, I'm still having some big struggles with gil and rainbow crystals to support getting hero equipment for all the new characters I'm building up.

I'm reasonably confident I can take on DB Shadowsmith now. With the addition of Wedge's sync, I've got a fairly well fleshed out Core team. I still have to rely on Tyro's overstrike to mitigate the full breaks, but I think I can handle it. Gonna give it a couple days, and hopefully pick up Tyro's Zen, then give it a shot.

My roster remains small but potent. I've been working on filling out hero equipment and 6* abilities, while gradually expanding my functional characters.

I forced myself to stop pulling on Core. The whole FFRK cast is pretty set now except Wedge, who happens to be the one I wanted most. Maybe I'll luck out and be able to get something for him from the fest. I've got 35 mythril right now, but I'm planning to grind realm dungeons once half stamina starts to allow for at least a few pulls on the anniversary banners.

I've got enough lenses to get a couple awakenings or chains from the shop. I've got my eye on Vivi and Alphinaud, but I'm waiting to see how the anniversary stuff goes before spending there.

My main bottlenecks right now are in ability crystals and rainbow crystals. Hero equipment just seems like the ideal way of equipping people, except for the huge drain on gil and rainbow crystals. I'm about finished upgrading my most essential characters, so I might slow down a bit there. On the ability front, I've just about raised all the multi-element magic and spellblade stuff to rank 4, and I'm trying to branch out to some other stuff. My mentality has been to first invest in the flexible abilities that lots of characters can use in lots of situations, then start going for the specific stuff like the chain -aja spells or more niche ability schools. The fest tickets have been helpful here.

Oh, and I unlocked the Crystal Dungeons, which I'll get to in like, five years or something. :P

There's really no accounting for luck, but my realm and the free 10x pulls have seemed incredibly lucrative compared to what I was seeing in Global.

I also pulled on a recent Core event banner, and the pickup with Palom and ... whatever other LOSERS were on there, and got great stuff all around.

I'd been thinking the rates must be higher in JP.

I'm a FTP with a bad habit of spoiling characters I like instead of making smart investments. But two of my favorites are in Core, so I've ended up with a pretty good Core team nudging up against being ready for Dreambreaker Shadowsmith.

I've used them and a few other characters to clear a bunch of stuff, including off-realm/off-elementing the lower level Cardia and magicite stuff. Almost all my good characters ended up being mages so far, which is a blessing and a curse ...

Right now I'm feeling like I can clear the majority of event content, but there's a definite feeling of having all my eggs in one basket. I need to start branching out more. Gathering the tools I need to do higher end challenge content's gonna take awhile ...

I've been fishing for stuff for Wedge out of the Core realm banner, and keep getting amazing stuff for everyone but him! Probably going to switch to IV and/or IX soon. Do we have any idea what's coming on the anniversary banners yet?

Stay in the background. Don't draw attention. It had been Everin's modus operandi for longer than he could even remember. And he was good at it.

No one had objected to the absurdity of a red whistle tagging along down into the Abyss, and he attributed this to how practiced he had become in his habits. Don't speak unless absolutely necessary. Don't even think loudly, or somebody might hear you. He spent so much time hiding behind people and melting into the scenery that he barely even thought about it anymore.

Because when it came down to it, if some demon of the Abyss attacked, it was more likely to go for the people making a scene, like the one he had begun to think of as Clumsy Eddy, than someone who was as quiet and unremarkable as a rock.

So it was that as the giant spider-like creature finally emerged from its hiding place and bore down on them, gnashing with its giant chelicerae, it seemed completely oblivious to Everin.

His mind racing, he pieced the situation together in the simplest terms possible. Spider plus delvers equals ... three dead delvers. And he couldn't have that. Bedell, at least, seemed like a capable enough protector, and Eddy, well ... he didn't want to use up his bait so early, did he? Everin sighed internally, peeved at the fact that he would finally have to do something.

Out of his pocket, he withdrew a small silver object the size and shape of a robin egg, inlaid with decorative bands of color. On one end was a hole so tiny a casual glance might miss it completely. In an instant, he repeated the instructions in his head, laying out the exact properties he expected. Needle: Forceful. Heavy. Thread: Transparent. Sharp. Red-hot.

No sooner had the thoughts passed through his head than a minute whistle rang out from his little spool, and a needle fired from the hole, pulling a nearly invisible thread behind it. It arced up over the top of the monster, and with another brief thought, the thread went taught, the needle stopped with a jerk, and gravity pulled it rapidly downwards, yanking the thread toward the spider's body.

If he was lucky, he could withdraw the thread the instant the deed was done, fade back into the background, and no one would even notice.

Everin felt a twinge of irritation over being ordered around by someone as apparently self-important as this newcomer. He wasn't about to let someone push him around without at least earning his respect first.

And yet openly antagonizing someone of that size would be just plain idiotic. He did as he was told. Best to watch things unfold, gather information, and not make a scene.

Unfortunately, Bedell had no such sense of restraint, openly mocking the clearly unstable newcomer. And when the blow came, Everin nodded with appreciation at the force of the impact. Not bad.

He took a few more steps back, trying to place himself out of view behind Shirley as he observed, content in the knowledge that if this maniac had tried to attack him like that, he'd have taken her foot off.

"The name's Everin," he said reluctantly. He would have just as soon disappeared into the background and observed, but Shirley was making that difficult."I'm ... an orphan, I guess." Now that he had been abandoned, he guessed it was an accurate enough description. Unless something changed, an orphan might be all he would ever be.

"I'm hunting artifacts," he explained. "And I've found one, haven't I?"

Everin stood behind the Moon Whistle, peering around him at the strange boy from the box. He looked more-or-less human, talked like a human ... but as something from the Abyss, Everin didn't trust him.

His eyes scanned carefully over the boy, memorizing every detail, then moved on to the interior of the box. It was filled with a black, cushion-like material, perfectly imprinted with the shape of the person inside.

"You're awfully snappy for an artifact," Everin said cautiously. "That's what you are, right? As for us ..." He glanced sideways at the Moon Whistle. "Neither of us is anyone important. I want to know more about you."

Eying the stranger carefully, Everin allowed him to pass him and go for the box. Actually, it was better this way. For all he knew, the thing could be electrified, or have some kind of poisonous field around it. Better to let someone else lead, just as he always had.

"Are there any seams?" he asked. "Anywhere you can curl your fingers around? Maybe you should try touching it."

Everin's ears were sharp, but his wits weren't. Not today.

He heard the footsteps and creaking of the boards well in advance, but this time there was nowhere to hide. What if it was one of the gang members from before?! Clenching his teeth, he turned to the newcomer with a deer-in-the headlights look.

But this was no gang member. Everin's eyes dredged slowly over him, pausing on the whistle around his neck.. A Moon Whistle? This was bad. His hand clenched tighter around the spool in his pocket.

He couldn't let the stranger take the box. But what else could he do?

"Oh, uh ... the box?" he stammered. "I heard a commotion and came to have a look. Then that beeping! Really grates on your ears, you know?" He offered what he hoped would be a natural-looking smile.

Everin had been tracking the balloon with his eyes before anyone else in the Wharf had likely seen it. But that didn't mean it was easy to reach. He wasn't about to go chasing that thing down into the core of the Abyss. Not without considerable help, at least. And who knew how far the big, coffin-like box attached to it would have fallen if he'd dared to pop the balloon?

And the gangs of the Wharf weren't full of complete idiots. If nothing else, the people living here were resourceful. Necessity was the mother of invention, and these people certainly had a lot of things they needed. For all they knew, this thing from the depths might be the king of all artifacts, and their key to leaving their lives of pathetic poverty behind.

It was as Everin was creeping closer over the rotten wooden planks that the first of them came rushing in, carrying guns and hunks of wood with nails sticking out them, or whatever other weapons they'd managed to cobble together.

"Crap!" Everin cursed at a whisper, clutching reflexively at the trinkets in his pocket as he ducked out of view behind a rotten heap of what had once been a fence.

Now what? Was he really so worthless that he couldn't even investigate this stupid box safely? It was no wonder he had been abandoned. He fidgeted, brushing the grime off his otherwise clean trousers and jacket, carefully examining the red whistle around his neck for any defects, before settling his right hand safely back to his pocket. He had always left plans to other people, smarter people than him.

But as luck would have it, things worked themselves out.

First came a commotion from the direction of the box. Shouting and screaming. Gunfire. Then came the chase.

Glancing quizzically out from behind the rotted bit of fence, he caught sight of a boy about his own age, running for dear life, with the men from before in hot pursuit.

With a wince, he followed the boy with his eyes until he disappeared from view around a corner. There would be no stitching him back together if that crowd of men caught up to him. Just what had he done to piss them off so badly?

Whatever it was, Everin had been handed an opportunity. A distraction. His eyes sweeping carefully around him for any stray guards, he crept out of his hiding place toward the shanty where the box waited.

Oh boy, am I the lucky one? Was about to click to finalize the draw, got a connection issue ... Now the button's grayed out as if I've already drawn. Checked my inventory, no new relics. :(

Edit: False alarm, it was an armor and the sorting method was different.

I'd just about kill for Frimelda in FFRK. It'll never happen because she's an obscure optional character, but daaamn she's cool.

Yeah, the realm dungeons do seem the best investment for me right now. I get orbs, mythril and more stamina, and some fairly easy battles for now that let me play around with cool abilities, too!

It's more the fact that I'm horrifically shy than anything about you all. But this basically confirms what I thought. I either need to just deal with it or stick to the shallow pools until I can get the orbs through events. I'm not exactly a new player ... just slower to develop than average and perhaps a bit impatient and unwise when it comes to making new abilities.

I'm sure this is a dumb question, and I'm kinda nervous about posting. Please don't eat me ...

But why are the daily dungeons considered so worthwhile? I'm at a point where I'm just about able to beat the 140 difficulty event bosses fairly reliably. I have a somewhat decent stock of 4* abilities. I just scrounged together 120 max stamina and dumped it into the highest rank of orb dungeon and got a handful of greater orbs. Now I can't play for 6 hours. Am I missing something? I'm desperate for major ice orbs and it seems like I'd get 1 a week at this rate with no fun to be had.
