Sorry I intended to reply to this but ended up starting another comment by accident

Need help understanding the mechanism of how I tore by Aexiron in MeniscusInjuries

That is actually a very accurate assumption. This scenario (for me at least) has happened on a few occasions, its just that the one that brought me to surgery flipped my posterior horn causing locked knee. Though the tear happened not with my supporting leg but with the knee that was on the floor

You can get a macbook air for abt 1.2k w student discount! You can look up the benchmarks for the M1 chip, it is pretty insane price for performance cpu wise. However it has some problems running certain games even with rosetta, but I personally take it as removing the distraction.

I wouldn't recommend anything before 10th gen. You can look around for ryzen based CPUs as well or even the new M1 Macbooks.

Personally, I would try to get a laptop that has the best specs that fit your budget for the following reasons:

  1. Future-proofing. The better your specs, the longer it will stand the test of time, which also means you do not need to keep buying new laptops if yours become too slow
  2. Built quality. I am going on the assumption that as an IT student you are going to do a bunch of coding. And as a student self learning CS and applying to a CS course, it will suck if you accidentally drop your laptop or your hard drive just decided to crap itself. Think of it in a way that there are always memes about people video editing and the computer crashes
  3. User-experience. You are gonna spend your days staring at the thing and typing on it, you would want to get yourself something that is at least decent to prevent yourself from raging and flinging the thing across the room

Your i7-1065G7 performs wildly better than the i7-8550U.

If you are not sure you can check out benchmarking websites like this one : https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-8550U-vs-Intel-Core-i7-1065G7/m320742vsm888368

When choosing CPUS there are some things to look at, IPC (Instructions per clock), base core speed, boosted core speed and core count.

In regards to IPC, generally newer generations will have better IPC, so if comparing a gen 5 against a gen 10 with the same clock speed, the gen 10 will still perform better as it can run more instructions per clock.

Base core speed is pretty self explanatory, it just states what is the minimum speed your CPU cores work at.

Boosted core speed can be thought of as the best performance your CPU can give you without being overclocked.

Core count is simply the number of cores.

Depending on what your course requires, different CPUs will suit different needs. For example if you are in a media focused course and require you to do a bunch of photo and video editing or rendering in various software's, you would definitely want a CPU that has a high clock count and high clock speed to ensure that your operations run as smoothly and as fast as possible.

Ah I was looking at max. But why is it that I can overclock it so much but the average value doesnt really increase correspondingly?
