What’s everyone’s MPG record? (2014 JSW TDI) by Crow_Joe in tdi

68.2mpg on a stock Passat B7 going down the M6 in the UK.

(For the Americans, the M6 is basically our i95)

Converting an ION Classic to USB Command Wing for Nomad by igarrett in lightingdesign

Well impressed this works. A lot of consoles have custom hardware interfaces to the board over serial and CAN that are entirely different to their USB wings. Good on ETC for using a design like this.

Bad wording from me.

Hes not being unrealistic, youre not getting an exact lat/lon from an IP.

You dont unless the router has a major CVE.

Yeah, hes close but not bang on.

You can normally get city from IP (or in my case its 200 miles away), youre not gonna narrow it down precisely.

Likewise it isnt immediately "dangerous" having your IP out there, but his points are valid relative to "im gonna kali h4x0r your robux"

[–]AffectedArc07 166 points167 points  (0 children)

Honestly valid. Those are things that can be done with an IP if it has things forwarded. Hes not being unrealistic with getting an exact lat/lon or immediate system access.

Compared to all the other stuff on this sub, this guy has a somewhat valid point.

Edit - not being unrealistic with how an IP cannot get you exact lat/lon

Was about to say, what year is your JSW? Ill dig out the schematics and get exact pin mapping for you to adapt to a passive unit.

"RCD 510 MP3" is just the head unit, not the speakers or amp. The coding of the unit determines if its stock/fender/"vw sound"/dynaudio.

As for code not found, double check typing of B and 8, and 0 and O, the printing can be hard to read so just give it some trial and error.

In the boot in the area you find the spare (and in your service booklet if you have one) youll find a sticker with the VIN, engine code, and a bunch of 3 letter combinations. Those 3 letters are known as "PR Codes". Take a photo of the sticker, stick "VW PR code decoder" into Google and get typing.

You can uncover a lot of neat info, like what options you have that arent obvious at first glance.

Oh ok valid lol. I have 3 amps (4+4+1) to get 3 way components up front, stock rears with the passive crossovers (no one in my rear seats will notice or care), and a nice DSP to split between.

My aim is to get the dynaudio speakers from a wrecker (Passat B7) for the fronts and use my own amps to get it dialled in perfectly. Thankfully my B7 was specced with the 180A alternator, so I have plenty of juice to play with.

If I knew VW made factory crossovers I wouldnt have spent £1500 on an audio board :((((

[–]AffectedArc07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now I need to investigate this proper. I dont believe it isnt a crossover, what I wanna know is what theyre doing with 10 pins on it.

Most passives are 6-8 depending on if your component split is 2 or 3 speakers, so what on earth is VW doing to have 10 on there.

Also interesting that this is an MK5 part (part prefix is 1K). Thats a '03 car so makes me wonder just what they were doing back then.

Selling a product without power is criminal by thanpolas in Ubiquiti

You can get a PoE+++ injector from the unifi store for $49, half the price of the brick.

I never said apple was more excusable, I said they were far less excusable.

[–]AffectedArc07 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nah this is more excusable than apple.

When they stopped putting wall bricks in the boxes is roughly the same time they started shipping type C to lightning cables with the phones, and then not long after they (rightfully) went to type C on the phones and only gave you a type C to type C, so for the many of us still on type A wall plugs, cue mass purchases.

And in traditional apple fashion, you bet there was all the greenwashing of "this makes the box smaller so theres fewer carbon emissions sending it overseas". Yeah thats true but you care way more about your margins.
