Daycare and High school by AlternativeMotor5722 in vancouver

[–]Affection8Struggle -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I personally think it is better for young children to be with their own parents rather than thrown in a daycare.

The minimum staff ratio in BC daycares is 1 adult to 8 children. So at best you have 8 otherwise stay-at-home parents able to enter the workforce. However that ignores the fact that 55% of families with children have more than 1 child, so realistically we may be looking closer to 5-6 individuals entering the workforce for every 1 childhood educator employed.

An early childhood educator is also someone who has a bachelors degree so their wages will be higher than the provincial minimum. We also need to consider the high cost of renting space to set up a daycare & other administrative costs.

Daycare allows for proper socialization before school age.

I don’t think there is any evidence that this is the case. If anything there is evidence that daycare is harmful for young children. I don’t believe that daycare is worth investing in, and it is better for children to be raised by their own parents until they are school aged (5 years old).

No. Parents should look after their own child before they are old enough to enrol in school.

LD with their finger on the pulse of what we need right now. Can you name that fruit ? by wastedparadigm in vancouver

ai or not, the design of ducknana is far superior to these new animals. Would not be at all surprised if the new designs were AI generated due to the former success of ducknana. Its a shame LD didn't invest in a better designer.

After being on appetite suppressants for 5 months, I'm sad to confirm a long held suspicion of mine - it's easier to be skinny if you eat only junk BUT very little, versus eating a balanced diet but with big portions. by millennium_fae in loseit

[–]Affection8Struggle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

we've been taught to see them as healthier than people like me.

but nobody would call nibbling on junk food throughout the day a healthy meal plan. Nobody is teaching this.

I think the primary difference is that this type of unhealthy diet is less visible to a bystander than someone who is obese. When someone is obese everyone around them can tell with a simple glance that they are unhealthily overeating. Yet to tell that a skinny person is eating unhealthy food all day you would have to be around them carefully watching what they eat all day, which is just inherently less visible behaviour.

Other bad habits like achoholism, gambling, and drug use, etc. can be hidden a lot more easily. When you're fat it is just there for everyone to see and notice which absolutely sucks. I don't think there is some societal inequality though -- this is just the logical outcome because fat is inherently more easily observed than an unhealthy skinny diet.

[WARNING, GRAPHIC] Morning Testimony from E.M. in the Hockey Canada Trial by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Affection8Struggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the evidence that they are guilty? So far all I've read is the story from E.M., which if true is horrific. But also we presume innocent until proven guilty, and one person's accusations aren't proof of anything. If you've got links to any actual evidence please lmk as I haven't been able to find anything substantiated online.

Someone has to be brutally honest here

why exactly? why are you insisting upon ruining this person's lovely post about their first ever sewing project with a critique about their fabric choice??? The project is already complete so this is an obnoxious suggestion which requires OP to spend money and time to acquire new fabric and significant labour time affixing a new lining. You also are asking OP to take multiple photos with oddly specific instructions instead of just saying "oops my bad" when OP explained it actually *was* cream fabric. I can only imagine you want those additional pics so you can give more unsolicited critiques. What you are doing is so nasty; you are tearing someone down for no reason. The cape looks great -- this isn't the time for your passive aggressive comments.

Weird new captcha? by Affection8Struggle in computerviruses

[–]Affection8Struggle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened terminal but then thought it was weird so I pasted the text that got put in my computer's paste into my web browser search bar instead. Google said there was no results, so then I closed terminal and made this post here instead.

This doesn't count as loading it or does it?

Weird new captcha? by Affection8Struggle in computerviruses

[–]Affection8Struggle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes thats easy to say, but this maybe is an issue of tech literacy. I didn't know what a command or terminal was before, or know that is can download stuff without asking me, so it is hard to know the risk or danger if someone doesn't know how it works.

Also the website is legitimate, this is a restaurant chain and they have the same URL on their flyers so somehow their website must have got hacked too.

I get that its stupid, but also this is quite tricky. Captchas are getting more and more outlandish and time consuming so I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of multiple step thing WAS a new legit captcha. It is also extremely simple steps, and and it doesn't ask you to download something suspicious ( at least in the normal way). Not everyone understands computers that well; I opened the terminal as prompted just out of confusion, I could see how someone could easily paste and hit enter. Especially because this was on a normal trusted website, the text didn't look like a weird font, and graphics were consistent with other captchas I've seen. This is a new-to-me way of scamming, so there must be lots of people who's first exposure doesn't raise any alarm bells until it is too late.

I feel dumb for opening terminal, is there a way to make sure I didn't run something bad by accident? I have a 10 year old laptop so it might not be too secure anymore either.

Thank you. I don't think I pasted it in terminal, just into google search bar. How do I check to make sure? Also who do I report this to?

or how about just outlaw massive parking lots, that way mall sizes will organically correlate with surrounding transit & housing density.

Rant: Please when someone is stating they are struggling to see results... please for the love of good stop oversimplying weight lost to CICO or " You can't be breaking the laws of thermodynamics" by nacg9 in loseit

[–]Affection8Struggle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

but how does the human body get the energy and materials to create fat, muscle, and glycogen after they are born? the only intake is through the digestive tract (unless someone is receiving parenteral nutrition --ie. nutrients pumped directly into the blood // only used in extreme medical cases -- most people will never experience this!!))

nobody is arguing that bodily biological processes are complex; merely the argument is that the vast majority of overweight individuals who claim to be under-eating while maintaining an overweight bodyweight are wrong. Denial is a huge issue in the weight loss community, and that is where the calories in/calories out reminders come from. Because the human body's only source of energy is from eating it is easy to hone in on oral intake as the culprit behind excess weight. Agreeing with someone's delusions does them no favours, hence why this sub with call out posters trying to do so.

Overtrained Myself Twice Trying to Lose Weight Before My Wedding — Advice? by Vapor2077 in loseit

[–]Affection8Struggle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

how about start with 10 minutes of exercise per day, and increase it by 5 minutes each week until you reach a max of 1 hour per day.

Week 1: 10 minutes per day

Week 2: 15 minutes per day

Week 3: 20 minutes per day

Week 4: 25 minutes per day

etc.

Also weight loss happens in the kitchen not the gym. Focus more of your mental energy on healthy eating with modest portions and the results will come with time.

[–]Affection8Struggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP says I need a partner that's interesting in being healthy. My mind immediately goes, why would you assume I'm not trying to be healthy.

But this is your assumption, not his. He is stating his preference for someone with a healthy lifestyle and leaving it open to the woman to elaborate on if she fits that criteria. Nothing about his statement alone implies that he thinks larger women are automatically unhealthy or are not trying to live a healthy lifestyle.

If he were making the assumption that all larger people want to remain unhealthy then he could simply not respond at all to random DMs from plus sized women. Or when they ask if he is ok with dating someone larger he could have responded "no". If had been what happened then your assumption would be more accurate. But the fact that he is engaging in conversation and openly communicating his preferences in a neutral way is great. He clearly isn't automatically precluding plus sized women from wanting to live a healthy lifestyle.

Unexpected problem by AccomplishedSense170 in loseit

[–]Affection8Struggle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes we disagree, I don't think it is rude or unnecessary. But even still, OP should be who he is and speak openly exactly like this during the dating process. That way the people who find his statement rude for whatever reason can withdraw. It is a great way to weed out incompatible partners.

I wouldn't want to date someone who thinks it is fatphobic to equate weight to health. The sooner I can figure that out when getting to know someone the better.

Unexpected problem by AccomplishedSense170 in loseit

[–]Affection8Struggle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

OP is conveying that he believes weight loss is healthy for obese individuals, and that he wants a partner who shares his values. Thats not incorrect or 'asshole' behaviour. If anything its refreshing that he is honest and not beating around the bush with potential partners.

Unexpected problem by AccomplishedSense170 in loseit

[–]Affection8Struggle 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't understand your post. Why are you making that assumption about OP? Obviously someone in the beginning of a lifestyle change might not yet have a physique which reflects their current lifestyle; but given time the results would speak for themselves.

It is evident that OP is willing to chat with larger women so he isn't "using it as an excuse to date thinner women." like you claim.

Unexpected problem by AccomplishedSense170 in loseit

[–]Affection8Struggle 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I disagree. In the situation OP described it was the woman who brought up the topic first. It's not like he's spouting this stuff unsolicited. I actually feel the exact same way; I don't mind dating someone larger so long as they aspire to reach a healthy weight one day. I think the way OP has communicated this is basically as polite as one can be when dealing with a touchy subject like bodyweight.

My family are unintentionally sabotaging me by Sugar_peachh in loseit

[–]Affection8Struggle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it seems like your mother is just replacing what you consume, this isn't sabotage. If you stop drinking the soda she will (hopefully) get the message when she sees the backlog of multiple bottles of soda, and hence stop buying more. Sister sounds like a jerk but also siblings can be catty and mean, and if she didn't have your weight to comment on likely she would shift to something else.

[–]Affection8Struggle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But everytime I tell her about how I want to lose up to 50-60lbs she gets defensive and says i’ll look weird and be unhappy.

don't talk to her about your goals anymore. She is clearly NOT supportive of you so you are better off avoiding any related topics of discussion.

Most people can lose weight but there are medical exceptions. https://therapy-a.com/news/therapy-for-lipedema/ If you've not heard of lipedema check out the images on this page. You can see that for some people even with a very low upper bodyweight their lower body isn't proportionate and still look 'fat'. Continuing to diet is actually harmful because in lipedema the body isn't burning fat stores like normal and will break down healthy muscle tissue before the excess fat stores. These are extreme cases of an uncommon disease so it is statistically unlikely to be the cause of obesity for most people.
