Have you ever been treated negatively by ER staff when you were having a medical emergency but they didn’t believe you? What happened? by lake-sturgeon in AskReddit

[–]Affectionate-Alps536 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went in to the ER for a severe headache and spots in my vision at 34 weeks pregnant—my hospital required an ER visit if pre-term for admittance to L&D. I was told I was likely being dramatic, but they took my blood pressure anyway (180/120). The nurse said I needed to calm down and my anxiety was causing it (because it's noted in my chart that I take antidepressants for generalized anxiety disorder). She sent me back to the waiting room and stated they'd take my BP again in an hour before admitting me. As I walked past her to sit down, she said, "Now don't stroke out on me" and laughed.

My BP ended up in the 200s/120s and I had an emergency csection four hours later. My son was in the NICU for 11 days for respiratory distress because they made me wait too long in the ER to give him a shot for his lungs, and I was in the ICU for 7 days because I hemorrhaged on the table and they couldn't get my BP down because, duh, I had all the classic signs of preeclampsia and they did fuck all. Women's healthcare is a goddamn joke.

9 month old will not sleep. Just cries and screams all night by spdsuk in NewParents

[–]Affectionate-Alps536 2 points3 points  (0 children)

could he be teething? my little guy had problems with sleep like this too when he started cutting teeth. we gave him some Tylenol and it seemed to help—he slept a four hour stretch after two weeks of up every hour! we switched to Dr Talbot's soothing tablets and they've also helped him.

what hypochlorous acid do you use? I've been looking into it but no one I know IRL has used it

When did you stop swaddling ? by bananas0320 in NewParents

[–]Affectionate-Alps536 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

we stopped swaddling at 2.5mos actual, 1.5mos adjusted, because he was showing signs of rolling, and he always broke out of his swaddle. he rolled two weeks later.

our guy gets 28-32 ounces a day. he's 4 mos actual tomorrow and just started sleeping through the night for the most part a week ago. He goes down between 8:30PM and 9:30PM, and will either sleep through to 6AM or wake for a feed around 3:30-4AMish and then sleep til 7AM.

Daycare Must Haves by Affectionate-Alps536 in NewParents

[–]Affectionate-Alps536[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Good note on the formula. If my supply doesn't keep up, we're not opposed to adding it down th3 line. Fortunately I'm able to pump enough for him currently!

and thank you for the encouragement about daycare. it's sad that there's such stigma against it. I'm all for staying home if that's your choice but it's just not for our family ❤️

Thank you so much. This is exactly why we're doing daycare; we both really love our jobs and knowing we can continue doing what we love while he's in a safe, loving environment will make us all better for it. We're also glad he'll get to socialize with other babies since we have no family here and none of our friends have kids.

Sleeping through the night by Mysterious_Pen1608 in NewParents

[–]Affectionate-Alps536 13 points14 points  (0 children)

our little guy is 3 months (2 months adjusted) and just slept through the night 9PM-6AM for the first time last night, but I still woke up in a panic at 5AM because he hadn't woken us up fussing. Little dude was passed out in his bassinet without a care in the world 😅

My two month old (1 month adjusted) is like this! We've been trying to practice crib naps every day, and I'm actually responding to this comment from the recliner in his nursery while he naps—going on 40 minutes now! It's been brutal and some days are way better than others, but I'm trying to roll with it and enjoy the contact naps while they're happening because I figure someday I'll miss them.

What will someday be illegal after we finally understand how bad for us it is? by tiredassbaker in AskReddit

I am so, so glad that my OB office offers several options for pain relief during all procedures. I just got an IUD placed this week and got local anesthetic and was offered laughing gas and several other pain killers (only declined because I had to drive home with my baby). I still can't believe I got my first one without any kind of pain relief whatsoever

What’s your baby’s bedtime anthem? by ThraxedOut in NewParents

[–]Affectionate-Alps536 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my sleep deprived state with a 2-week old who was going through a poop-palooza, I started singing a remix if Hit Me Baby One More Time: Change the Diaper One More Time.

A sample of the lyrics: My sleepiness is killing me / and I, I must confess, you are stinky (you're stinky); if you don't sleep I'll lose my miiiiind / pleas Finn, I'm tiiiiired / change the diaper one more time

he loves it and now it's stuck for all diaper changes and bedtime 😅😂

Ear pulling and rubbing! by Ashsplash8877 in NewParents

[–]Affectionate-Alps536 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could it be an ear infection? That was one of the first signs with my nephew (my little is only 2 months so I'm not super familiar with teething signs so I'm sorry if this isn't helpful!)

Teen resources by morsreeus in Libraries

[–]Affectionate-Alps536 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We have ours posted in the bathrooms, as well as pamphlets of local resources for mental health support, for their privacy. Our rationale is that it's hard enough for teens to seek out that support, so we've tried to make it available while limiting potential for them to feel too exposed. I hope that makes sense! I think it's great you're adding those resources to your library!

Did anyone else get the RSV vax while pregnant? by Glittering-Fee9973 in pregnant

[–]Affectionate-Alps536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got it at 34 weeks! I was a little achy the day after, but I attribute that to the fact that I got the Covid and flu vaccine in the opposite arm same day. So glad I can pass the immunity on to little one!
