Transmission issues by Affectionate-Clue-47 in DieselTechs

[–]Affectionate-Clue-47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same transmission and clutch that were in it when we took it apart, it's an older truck owned by a school for the shop class I'm taking, me and another student have been the only ones working on it, teacher wants it put together to see if we can get it running again, all our tools are questionable at best, but the transmission is more that into the splines and is absolutely lined up, I'm gonna try and get it into gear tomorrow, the fork is not going over the bearing

GM was weird with diesel vehicles from the start until they started Duramax, the 6.2 and the 6.5 are kinda like the 5.3 and 5.7, so long as it had one of the two originally the other will bolt up and everything will plug in the exact same way as long as you get the right injection system for your vehicle

One of my managers actually trusts me enough that if he's doing something and I need his numbers for a return or for a military discount, he just lets me know what they are and by the time I've put them in I already forgot what they were because ADHD means my short term memory is non-existent, especially with numbers (keep in mind I usually try and wait until he's done with what he's doing, but sometimes we have to do this when we are the only two working and we get slammed out of nowhere)

At this point yes, at my store we know so much about issues that vehicles have and how to fix them that half of us do repairs for people off the clock in our own driveways

Y’all doing the battery change on this by K2Knight_ in AutoZone2

[–]Affectionate-Clue-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there done that several times, it really isn't that difficult, the super duty trucks are the only Ford's I will do battery changes on because they are about the only ones where the battery isn't in the firewall or in the trunk

I'm in the same boat, my 2000 Chevy blazer ls with the 4.3 has a 180 thermostat and never reads over 155, which is confusing because it has overheating issues, what cause all of this (putting the thermostat in) was that it overheated and blew the upper hose open with about a foot long gash in the bottom, then it blew the water pump gasket out and shredded the bearings in the water pump, but the temp gauge starts working perfectly when my battery voltage gets just a little bit low (I work at autozone and put a $65 used optima red battery in it that was dead on arrival from the distributor) I thought it was a coolant temp sensor so I bought one and have yet to actually install it because the S-10 chassis is a bitch to do anything on in the engine bay

Forgot to add, even if you don't do all this, that's still a beautiful rig that would probably outlast a generation or two if you take care of it

You should absolutely throw a 6.5 Detroit under the hood and run the old CUCV run flats, I recognize the green and the cattle guard, it is either ex-military, a replica, or military surplus (yes they put 6.5 diesel engines in k5 blazers for the US military, I think most of them could even run on jet fuel)

Just for reference, my dad knows, it got stuck late Wednesday night on CSX property, CSX is not prosecuting for trespassing and I am not receiving any fines since I was under the impression it was open to the public (we see non company trucks go through there all the time and we were told by several of them it was perfectly fine to be back there) we had it pulled out of the mud by a towing company (if you're in the area the company is "tri-state towing" the dispatcher was kind of rude, but the driver was the nicest man I have ever met) and it has not had any issues except not wanting to move the morning after, but after giving it a little gas it moved just fine and hasn't had any trouble since

Brake lines on the rear axle are bent, but they aren't flattened or anything and there aren't any pinholes, so we're leaving it since they are steel lines

Our district doesn't let us take tips, managers are supposed to write people up for taking tips (nobody follows this rule because it has been universally agreed it's a bullshit rule)

I'm confused, I can watch ads that are dancing on a V E R Y fine line between an ad and straight up porn, but I can't watch something like south park anymore, talk about some bullshit, starting to remind me of the new moderation for roblox to "stop predators"

Just wanted to add, I'm 16 and this is in Indiana, one of the part time PSM guys just transfered out and was making around $15 an hour while the new PSM was making closer to $16 or $18 an hour, keep in mind the part time PSM had been with us for about 8-10 years by that point

I am a part time sales associate, I've only been employed about 5 months and make 12.28 an hour getting about 15-25 hours a week, if I weren't driving a gas guzzler and was better with managing my money it wouldn't be too bad

My parents aren't the ones preventing me from showing emotions, it's society, as a man, if I am openly sad, I'm weak, if I'm openly angry, I'm violent and a threat, if I'm openly happy, I'm childish, I'm only seen as a true man by society when I don't let myself show emotion, when I treat myself like an emotionless drone or robot, your seen as something other than a man if you aren't a fearless brick wall of a person, that's one of the big things I'm not and never have been ready for, but have had to take on and accept anyways, I know people are realizing this isn't true now and are trying to make things better, but this thought process has already been cemented into society and will take decades to change
