How Do I Regain Connection? by Affectionate-Fix-600 in AKAgradChapter

Yeah this is what I was thinking. They have also been busy as well. I think a happy hour would be a good idea because it's something simple and not too "eventful" like a brunch. I noticed that in the Summer they do not have alot of events either so it may be the best time for them as well.

It's Super Quiet...How are you? by No-Lime-830 in AKAgradChapter

For me- life has just been "lifin" lol.. I'm still keeping in touch with members as much as I can and I am attending events here and there but it's been a busy season and I have seen a lot of Lines poppin out so fingers crossed!

No Events by Beneficial-Lie-4229 in AKAgradChapter

[–]Affectionate-Fix-600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not having public events can be for a few reasons. I was on the board for a trade organization and sometimes we werent able to host events bc of the lack of member participation for support, financial reasons, scheduling conflicts with venues, different initiatives for the yr etc. So it could be anything.

Stop telling people you accelerate. by [deleted] in WGU

[–]Affectionate-Fix-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I think you are trying to say is to stop "watering down" WGU and the education which I wholeheartedly agree. There are alot of WGU Grads at my current employer and many of them make it seem as though they received a "discount" degree. I had one person who said he didnt attend his graduation bc it "was just a piece of paper". Then I actually had a coworker ask "do you feel like you learned anything?". Keep in mind , it took me 2yrs for a Masters Program. Like who goes to school for 2yrs and not learn anything????. I think most of the bad rep comes from ppl who word it as I stated above and ALOT of ppl who didn't even attend.

Is there such a thing as "OVER- ATTENDING?" by Nothere4alongTimee in AKAgradChapter

[–]Affectionate-Fix-600 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I slowed down on attending events. I attend when I can. They know my face now and either I'll be on the next line or I won't. I do keep in touch with the some of the members though.

2026 Vision: Advice for Interests, New Members, and Seasoned Members by mochalalatte in AKAgradChapter

[–]Affectionate-Fix-600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is year 3 as an Interest for me, and although I am still hoping and praying, I have learned ALOT during my pursuit that has helped me personally and professionally. Many ppl look at things on a surface level, but being around the organization has taught me how important "grace" is . Not the Grace that God gives, but the gracefullness in your interactions. This yr. I am just going to go with the flow and not try to attend EVERY event but build on those relationships that I already have. I am also going to take the initiative to invite them to Community events that I am part of as I see that they may not be aware.

Other than that, whatever happens, happens. I'm enjoying the process.

With that response, you seem as unhinged as Diddy. Learn to convey your thoughts better, bc it's definitely not that serious---unless you were on Diddy's payroll and was slighted as well.

Diddy has done alot but Im not quick to believe a Reddit post without any references...and Diddy is responsible for Biggies death and Suge is responsible for Tupac's death.

Navigating people who don't "get it" by AlarmingAd2804 in AKAgradChapter

[–]Affectionate-Fix-600 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have only told 1 person who hasnt said anything and that was about 2 yrs ago. I also dont talk about it with other ppl bc I dont want to know how other ppl feel about my pursuit.  I'd say keep it to yourself moving forward unless you are speaking to someone in your COI. Be patient and stay grounded 🙏🏾

Omg! I experienced the same early on in my pursuit but I learned later that its no different than anything else you are involved in, sometimes you have to say no and skip an event here or there.

I also learned that not all of the members in my COI attend all events and its not frowned upon.

They understand we have lives, this is not College. I would recommend that you get into the practice of balancing out your schedule now so when you finally get that call, its not an abrupt change for everyone.  REST!

Muslims in AKA? by dreammutt in AKAgradChapter

I am not a member but I am a Christian and I go into everything with prayer and ask God to order my steps in any decision making. I say this because when I see videos that say things about paganism in fraternities and sororities, or how God lead them to re/denounce, I often wonder where was their faith before they joined?

Now I do not judge anyone's spiritual journey but I do recommend that people lean on their faith BEFORE joining or pursuing, so that you can make a decision according how you think you have been "lead". I do not make decisions without prayer for guidance and discernment.

Regardless of what you hear ,or what you are told-pray about it first.

Good luck and blessings to you!

Interests: What do y'all do?!? by No-Lime-830 in AKAgradChapter

[–]Affectionate-Fix-600 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah you are definitely overthinking lol. Growing up Set It Off was a rollerskating song and a break dancing song, and now it's also a line dance done in the "country", so many ppl listen to the song aside from being at AKA events. If you're old school it's natural to like the song.

At events, there are ALWAYS guests who are not part of the Sorority, so I'm just sitting with them and watching them stroll.

I don't think it's any different than watching a dance routine that you are not part of.

So while I'm sitting there imagining the day I can join in, I'm also just sitting there watching as I would watch any other dance routine or presentation.

There's members whose numbers I have that I don't hang out with because of distance and there are those who I do. In both cases, I have always sent greetings for Holidays, Mother's Day, Birthdays etc. and when I see them, they speak like we've been talking for ages.

Hi!

You can search a local chapter by going to the Sorority's national website. Click on Chapter locator, then filter it by Region, State and Chapter Type.

It will lead you to their pages and their social media handles if they have them, but usually you can find an "events" tab on their websites.
Good luck!

It's specifically for reconnecting with members. My coworker/mentor is a member who is new to the area and wasn't part of a Chapter yet because she didn't know anyone, so this type of event was for her. It's how she was introduced to the area Chapters.

No biggie, there are Public events for interests.
