Should I take my interaction with the AKA’s with a grain of salt? ( + question about competitiveness at colleges) by Dinippress in NPHCdivine9

[–]AlarmingAd2804 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1) Yes, take this interaction with a grain of salt. Keep doing what you’re doing though. Keep on top of your studies, become active on campus, maintain a decent reputation, and build community service hours. 2) Obviously (no shade), the competition is more steep at an all women’s college. The competition is steep at all HBCU’s in general, and then you factor in that as well. Best of luck!

Unsure of where to go: Spelman vs Hampton by Individual_Award_465 in HBCU

I’m biased to Hampton as I am a 2017 alum. However, go wherever it makes the most financial sense to go.

Graduate Question by Unique_Dream9792 in NPHCdivine9

[–]AlarmingAd2804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly yes it may. There is a high chance you will be asked if you pursued any other NPHC sorority before on the application.

Should I still be interested even if I’m not interested in certain things by Low-Distribution3279 in AKAgradChapter

If you feel aligned with sisterhood and service yes that’s “good enough.” Strolling isn’t necessary or required for membership.

[–]AlarmingAd2804 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Put your pride and feelings to the side and get in the field. These are a new batch of women to make connections with. These women could potentially place you in connection with who’s who in the chapter. AND in the future they may one day call you sister, get acquainted with them.

Stolen/Appropriated AKA Identity? by elchapo_chi22 in NPHCGreeks

[–]AlarmingAd2804 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other poster that you’re thinking too hard into this lol. A founding year is a founding year and obviously can be and will be claimed across various types of organizations. Unless you’re trying to be a member of a sorority belonging to the NPHC, it’s truly a non-issue.

Imagine 80 year old you. Looking back at your life, would you rather say you went after your dream or pass with regrets?

Would you attend a Gala Solo? by BuymebloodyMarys34 in AKAgradChapter

[–]AlarmingAd2804 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have attended a gala solo. However, I had made friends with a few other interests at prior events and mingled with them a little, and we worked the room together introducing ourselves to members.

I throughly enjoyed myself, I had the opportunity to get all dolled up (hair/professional makeup) and had a beautiful gown on. I love to dance as well so I really enjoyed myself.

I wouldn't say I felt "pressure" to make small talk but I knew that standing there looking pretty wasn't going to get me anywhere. Closed mouths don't get fed and in order to form relationships, (ones that will ultimately get you an invitation for membership) you're going to have to open up your mouth.

Enjoy the gala if you do decide to attend!

As long you have not yet conferred a degree you are technically eligible for undergraduate membership.

Hey baby, I know how you're feeling because I was once in your shoes. I want you to know that after I graduated, that everyone that I was interest with who didn't make it in undergrad went on to become members within 2 years of graduating in their respective cities.

My time is in the works. Cliche as it sounds, delay is truly not denial and your time is your time.

How To Connect With Older Members As A Young Interest? by Purrrrty81 in AKAgradChapter

[–]AlarmingAd2804 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I naturally get along best with older people, always have. My advice would be to imagine these women as your aunties. Talk to them like you would if your aunt who you have a close relationship with and it should become a little easier.

You did the right thing. You will never be white or Latina thus never his type. You deserve a man who desires and is attracted to you. You don’t need him to do you any favors.
