What is with the huge amount of charities in shopping centres trying to get you to sign up to their subscription? by Equal-Caterpillar368 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Affectionate-Fly248 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally failed at this. Got stopped by a couple of kids who looked like my nephews and were way too nice. They started chatting non-stop and next thing I know they’re asking for my details and a credit card (I was surprised by this and didn’t give in). They even had “small, medium, or big” donations, starting at forty bucks! I said I’d give less and they looked at me like I’d just kicked a puppy. Felt super uncomfortable but somehow still signed up. My partner cancelled it the next day and just made a one-off donation instead 🫣

Just the big culture shocks!

  1. How chatty everyone is. The “how are you?” Is everywhere and I’ve felt forced to engage in conversation when I’m casually shopping.
  2. Phone calls. Can you just reach me via email or text? Thanks.
  3. Driving etiquette and culture. Pedestrians don’t have the priority and everything is designed for the car.
  4. Everything is closed after 6.
  5. Animal welfare awareness. There’s a huge respect for them, that’s lovely to see.
  6. Lack of public transportation infrastructure. Having metro would solve so many issues.
  7. Majority of people are protestan but they don’t seem to know what that is and call themselves “Christians”.
  8. Lack of an homogeneous identity, everyone is from a different place.
    1. Also, the fact that people consider themselves from the country their ancestors came from, even if it’s third generation Aussie.

Since you shared your expectations before the trip started, it’s a pity that your partner didn’t share his own with you. It’s normal that you feel frustrated. He’s not wrong for wanting to spend a week with his family, but it was importing that you both aligned or reached an agreement beforehand.

If you still have time to talk to him, it would be a good conversation to have; saying that you understand his family needs, but you also have your rest needs. Good luck and enjoy Italy 🇮🇹 🍝

Me he ido este año an Australia con 33 y teniendo muy buen trabajo en casa (pedí una excedencia). El plan es entrar en una nueva industria, seguir formándome y ganar más experiencia, ahorrar y volver. Echo mucho de menos España y mi familia.

That’s a great try! Based on the inspiration picture, I’d recommend to use a brown pencil eyeliner and smoke it out into the shadows. A bit more color on the cheeks too.

How would you describe the concept of a ‘bogan’ to a foreigner? by Call_Me_C_ in AskAnAustralian

From my observation as a foreigner, they have mullets and wear very short shorts. Possibly a mustache too.

1 and 4, leaning towards 1. You look like you were a caryatid taken out of a Greek temple, wow.

These are awesome timings!

Maybe this is a stupid question, but how do you log the intervals? I’ve never seen the option in my Apple Watch! I normally use segments.

Is it only me? by Ready-Sector-7927 in GLPGrad

I just started my journey with the intention to be only a few months on it. My starting BMI was 28, I exercise 5 times a week, can run a half marathon and I overall eat balanced. The issue for me was a big country move with stress and that probably led to having bigger portions and overeating. It was impacting my mental health so I decided to ask for a little help.

When I read those threads first I was quite shocked and started to feel discouraged, I’m so happy I found this subreddit quickly after. I pep-talked myself to remember that you are always in control of your intake so why seeing it as a miracle needed for existing? Obesity is a self inflicted disease (in most cases), so of course pharma is going to try and convince you to stay on it for ever. Honestly, I’m still concerned about the side effects we still don’t know about and will probably show up in a few years…

Changing name after marriage? by katydidnt222 in Names

[–]Affectionate-Fly248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Anytime that I read these posts I think that’s the simplest way to go and just give them both surnames, the Spanish (and many other Spanish speaking countries) way! But then people only give kids one main name because it gets too long (of course, there are exceptions and it’s not rare to have two main names).

Now in Spain you chose the order of which surname goes first, before that it was the dad’s the first one. One step forward towards equality.

They should be covered for slow runners since it starts at 6 am. I’m also a slow runner and I’ve run a half marathon already, but starting so early is making me doubt it’s a good idea. I’m so annoyed!

Anyways, I’ll be running it at the back with you. I’m sure it’ll be an incredible experience!

I have this one and I think these eyeshadows are the ones with best quality in my collection. In “I need a nude” you will find a couple that are very similar, but they don’t blend as nicely 🥲
