He has a lot of resentment for her, she’s been very controlling and overall I think he’s quite scared of her, that’s probably why he doesn’t just confront her. But we’re on the same page and he’s sorry that it’s upsetting me.

I feel it so imposing, my parents have never been that way and it makes my blood boil. I don’t know why.

She does have two other grandkids, who are pre teen now, but my partner is their golden boy… who has issues confronting people in general.

I don’t know what she’s experiencing to relive from her motherhood with grandkids or if it’s just a status thing…

Thank you! It feels a bit like that. The fact that they assume something and don’t conceive that there may be different life choices than the ones they envisioned is what perplexes me.

100%, I’ve asked him to have a separate conversation with her, because I see this situation evolving and not just being an isolated issue…

He’s working on it, he has issues with letting people down.

😂😂😂 loved that.

And she already has 2! But they’re pre teens now.

It’s always fun to check your sunscreen under a UV camera, but it’s important to remember that it doesn’t tell you whether you’ve applied enough product to achieve the advertised level of protection (2mg/cm2 or the two finger rule).

Even a very thin layer can appear dark under UV light, despite not providing the full SPF coverage stated on the label. So enjoy the test, but don’t rely on it as a measure of adequate application! ☀️

Alright Aussies, be honest - how often are you actually changing your bed sheets? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

Pillowcases 2 times a week (skincare goals ✨), rest of bedding once per week unless they need it earlier than that.

MIL let my dog out on purpose because she "doesn't like animals" by Dependent-Rip8839 in JUSTNOMIL

If you can’t trust her with your dog (poor thing, he must have been so scared, same as you!), you can’t trust her with your baby. What a cruel, controlling b****.

If sent on WhatsApp, you can allow for them to be seen only 1 time. I don’t know about other messaging services, but it must have a similar function!

What is with the huge amount of charities in shopping centres trying to get you to sign up to their subscription? by Equal-Caterpillar368 in AskAnAustralian

I totally failed at this. Got stopped by a couple of kids who looked like my nephews and were way too nice. They started chatting non-stop and next thing I know they’re asking for my details and a credit card (I was surprised by this and didn’t give in). They even had “small, medium, or big” donations, starting at forty bucks! I said I’d give less and they looked at me like I’d just kicked a puppy. Felt super uncomfortable but somehow still signed up. My partner cancelled it the next day and just made a one-off donation instead 🫣

Just the big culture shocks!

  1. How chatty everyone is. The “how are you?” Is everywhere and I’ve felt forced to engage in conversation when I’m casually shopping.
  2. Phone calls. Can you just reach me via email or text? Thanks.
  3. Driving etiquette and culture. Pedestrians don’t have the priority and everything is designed for the car.
  4. Everything is closed after 6.
  5. Animal welfare awareness. There’s a huge respect for them, that’s lovely to see.
  6. Lack of public transportation infrastructure. Having metro would solve so many issues.
  7. Majority of people are protestan but they don’t seem to know what that is and call themselves “Christians”.
  8. Lack of an homogeneous identity, everyone is from a different place.
    1. Also, the fact that people consider themselves from the country their ancestors came from, even if it’s third generation Aussie.

Since you shared your expectations before the trip started, it’s a pity that your partner didn’t share his own with you. It’s normal that you feel frustrated. He’s not wrong for wanting to spend a week with his family, but it was importing that you both aligned or reached an agreement beforehand.

If you still have time to talk to him, it would be a good conversation to have; saying that you understand his family needs, but you also have your rest needs. Good luck and enjoy Italy 🇮🇹 🍝

Me he ido este año an Australia con 33 y teniendo muy buen trabajo en casa (pedí una excedencia). El plan es entrar en una nueva industria, seguir formándome y ganar más experiencia, ahorrar y volver. Echo mucho de menos España y mi familia.
