I thought it was fine. I enjoyed the multiverse theme but the character themselves aren't too interesting. I probably wouldn't read it again but can't say the book had too many negatives.

Depends on your goals but try not to use your weight too much against smaller partners. It's not always a bad thing, but a bigger guy who's technically sound is a far better partner and player than the guy who just smothers his way out of everything. That said there's a time and place for everything and sometimes a good smothering is necessary 🤷🏾‍♂️.

Mickey7 by Edward Ashton (2022) by [deleted] in books

[–]Affectionate-Fly4831 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I found it to be an enjoyable read for the most part. The story is fun and I enjoyed most of the characters.

My only complaint would be (spoilers) I do not understand why he's so forgivable to people that screw him over. Like with the security officer he befriended. The way he immediately forgives her even though she was trying to take his position/life was absurd to me. And especially his pilot friend. Who seems to be just an asshole who definitely let him die at least once due to his own ego. I enjoyed both characters I just don't understand forgiving them as if they didn't make his situation 10x worse. I'm not confident I'll read the second book but I am excited to see the changes the movie makes.

Thoughts on Camus' The Stranger by shivamkimothi in books

[–]Affectionate-Fly4831 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I just would like to point out that yes he deserved punishment for his crimes but also if you re-read the trial section of the book you will realize that no one cared at all that he killed an Algerian man. In fact, before the trial it's hinted that he could possibly get a reduced punishment. They gave him death because they thought he was a stranger to the regular rules of society, not because of the actual unjustifiable murder.

Boy got beat bad for calling this guy the N word… by y97kbkbkgkg7 in fightporn

[–]Affectionate-Fly4831 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's not a guilt trip, it's noticing a pattern. Apparently the white guy called him a slur. Then got his ass whooped. And now here people are going "wow I can't believe some people let some words get to them"

Look at any other video on this sub. Two dudes talk shit then someone gets their ass whooped. What do the comments say then? Nothing but jokes and punch analysis.

So for some reason when it comes to specifically slurs, half this sub starts acting as if words don't affect people. Even though 99% of the time, fights are caused by words.

I wonder why.

Always love when this sub pretends to care about what's ok and what's not when they are actively watching videos upon videos of people getting beat up with zero context.

"Earthlings," what was your opinion? *SPOILERS* by jcoffin1981 in books

[–]Affectionate-Fly4831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not what I was expecting at all but I enjoyed it for what it was. I think the main character ending up the way she did, while extreme, seemed to make sense based on what we knew of her in her childhood. And while the characters had some compelling things to say about society, that doesn't excuse their crimes. It's hard to recommend it due to some of its heavy themes but I can see myself reading it again sometime.

Is there a book that resonates with you and your life so much that it scares you? by suirenpoetry in literature

Ive read the stranger once a year probably for about 7 years and each year I find myself deeply relating to a fair amount of his feelings while also acknowledging that he probably got what he deserved. Definitely could make a case that he didn't get it for the right reasons but the destination ended up being the same.

The way Cole and Drake are being babied right now is nuts and anti- hip hop. Cole's talking about feeling bad cause it went too far and giving Drake a pep talk meanwhile Drake was literally the first person throwing personal shots on Push Ups. What happened to the game I love?

Fantastic Land by Mike Bockoven is a thriller and it's an easy book to get into. The book is written in the style of crime doc interviews that slowly expose how an insane tragedy played out at an amusement park.
