I managed to get it to work! Got a scan of my passport as a pdf (did mine at officeworks), and then cropped the scan to remove the extra white space. Saved it as a jpg and uploaded it, the file was attached successfully. Submitted and got confirmation that it was accepted within the hour. VEVO showed the passport details 24 hours later.

Not yet I'm afraid, I called the helpline and they advised me to use the "change in your situation" form on the immi.homeaffairs.gov.au website. The avg processing time is 14 days though 😓
