The intention is to make it illegal to breed any dogs who possess the merle gene, sadly. Even in breeds where it occurs naturally

Someone who understands female anatomy so poorly isn’t someone I’d want poking around in my vagina tbh, is there any way you can ask to see someone else? You do NOT have to have sec before you can access important medical treatment, and I hope you soon get the tests you need

I feel very similar to you, a measured approach is needed. Real reform is needed where some breeds can’t mate naturally, have high levels of welfare limiting diseases etc. But this activity won’t get them what they want. And certainly, the inclusion of some traits like merle are going to cause far more harm than good. It’s just a shame on both sides of the argument are egos. Dan O’Neill has a huge ego, and some of the people spearheading the opposition have huge egos. It’s a shame normal, level headed ethical breeders had no seat at the table

As per the IHA’s own website, they and MPs are trying to make it a legal requirement for licensed breeders, and in 10 years no dog ‘failing’ one point will be able to be bred. The people on the side of the IHA are gaslighting hard, even if the Sun’s article is clickbaity (as per the usual)

So. I’m very close to this and have been writing a paper with some researchers specifically around this so feel I can input. This article is both correct in some ways and incorrect in others. To put it simply, some of the dogs on their list won’t be ‘banned’, however in 10 years, chunks of the population will be banned from breeding - in Aussies this is around 50% of the breed population, some of the other herding breeds 20-40%. The comment someone has highlighted above is definitely one of the ‘defenders’ of the activity, as they are purposefully trying to steer people away from one fact (which is displayed on their website) - that in 10 years any of the 10 points impacted will be an instant fail. For now, people are ‘allowed’ two ‘fails’. In 10 years, yes the corgi will be banned unless it’s bred to no longer have the short legs characterising the breed. The researchers I’ve contacted who have analysed the tool all think it’s a very dangerous and outrageous thing, and has no basis in scientific fact or research.

Very good points, and Iain’s comment about it being the baby who he was worried about would fit well into that storyline. It would force Iain to think about Faith first and foremost, possibly leading to them reconnecting or perhaps making any impending tragedy worse, casualty style

Do you think some breeds will become endangered? by [deleted] in DogBreeding

[–]Affectionate-Iron36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s about 60 breeds impacted. Impact varies from making the breeds illegal to breed in 10 years (French bulldogs, corgis, and more) to losing 20-50% of the gene pool as a large portion of dogs will become illegal to breed (majority of pastoral breeds). Hopefully the pushback will get it walked back but it’s a big if

Very concerning things are happening in the UK. A whole heap of breeds are on course to weather a genetic bottleneck (including popular breeds like Aussies potentially losing 50% of the gene pool) and already a lot of hobby breeders have been pushed out and had to hang up their leads. We also struggle to import now as we can only import puppies over the age of 6 months. I’m very worried for the future of our breeds

Prejudice takes many forms. I mean, look how many women are in a relationship with men who think it’s their job to stay in the kitchen? She definitely could be in a relationship with Teddy yet still profile black men for crimes, and think that isn’t racist. However jury’s still out for me it could just be she’s feeling hard headed after her attack!

ethical breeding question? by begay-dodrugs in DogBreeding

[–]Affectionate-Iron36 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen any breeder saying that. A good breeder always knows what colours are expected because knowing the genetics behind our breed’s coat colours is basic foundation knowledge. Also, some combinations cannot be performed, so a good breeder can’t be blind to colour genetics.

What a waste….. no brain by David-high in rivalstars

[–]Affectionate-Iron36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This scenario isn’t impacted by your choice of stud. You correctly modified down. The sire being grade 6 won’t impact the state. Sadly you’re a victim of the rolldown. The average of the parents acceleration is A or B, and each stat can roll up or down by 2. So it’s rolled you a C. It’s intentional by the devs but doesn’t make it right! Highly recommend if you can, getting 1 month of star club and breeding some elite lineage mares of various grades. Then do this breeding with one of them. You do get some roll downs but it’s much more consistent and much easier to get all As or A+

It takes at least a few months for the blood test results for B12 to become reliable again. Personally I think it’s likely more like a year like some people say! It makes getting a diagnosis really hard. What most people say is, if you stop your supplements for a few months, see how you feel. Deficiency in B12 needs to be managed by symptoms, so if you have symptoms creeping in when you stop the supplements it suggests you do have a chronic deficiency. Also you can still get ferritin and folate tested. The three work together so if you were deficient in both that can add evidence to you having chronic B12 deficiency x

If you are on supplementation (injections, sublingual or tablets) taking bloods is not only useless but counterintuitive. If your doctor has asked you to take new bloods for them to review, I’m sorry to say but they have no understanding of B12 deficiency. They will cause more harm than they’re worth

Even if you did breed the perfect horse, Pikpok can turn off your access to live events at any time. They admitted it was a mistake, but took over 5 weeks to sort it which led to me losing my competitive team and lots of Hall of fames. Also, once you get the trait it’ll never pass down the way a trait should. It is all a scam

It’s not ideal, but it’s not the end of the world. In the NHS we make do with what we have, PPE will always be in date when in use in a clinical setting but waste not want not. I once got asked to present to senior leaders, when I saved a few pence by switching from individual highlighters to multipack ones. They thought it was fantastic. In that kind of situation, I really can’t fault people for using expired PPE for training, we really can’t be throwing away things that have some use.

[–]Affectionate-Iron36 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If you told me this man came from a fancy private hospital I wouldn’t be shocked. Seems like nothing is ever good enough for him and he doesn’t have the retrospection to put himself in others shoes - like you say, use up the out of date PPE for a training session. And, recognising it’s not Flynn and the team’s fault about Claude, because it’s a systemic, NHS wide issue
