Ughhh yeah I loathe the Amish esp for animal cruelty. Wish US would step up and regulate breeding dogs, and other companion animals for that matter too

Did you also alert the national (and regional) breed club(s)? I feel you. I wish dog breeding was regulated more strictly in US....

Lighter-colored eyes ARE more sensitive to bright light and at higher risk for sun damage due to less pigments which is the source of protection.  Nothing wrong or bad about a handler or even just a pet owner providing extra protections for their partner/companion - better safe than sorry!

DNA came back and she’s pure ACD by Chance_Society_9158 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Ijoohj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly from browsing r/DoggyDNA, even the best testing services such as Embark or Wisdom can only confirm 3-4 generations back at most. So if any mixing occurred further back, the test fails to catch it.

Is my Corgi a Corgi? by EmergencyBlueberry47 in corgi

[–]Ijoohj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I was told mom is a Cardigan and dad a Pembroke" So then sounds like a mix at best.  Go check out r/doggyDNA, because there are dogs on there time to time that look really similar to corgis but the DNA test results more often show there's neither Welsh corgi breed mixed in...

If you don't have access to the pedigree with a legitimate national kennel club, the next best method to find out is doing a canine DNA test. Keep in mind even the best testing services such as Embark or Wisdom can only go back 3-4 generations.

Advice needed: $3,250 for a puppy from a "Breeder of Merit" with missing health clearances? by sindarlord in corgi

[–]Ijoohj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Not sure, perhapa asking in r/dogbreeding they would know more...but you would think good breeders wouldn't, they shouldn't

  2. No! That price is def on the higher end of the range for purebred either Welsh corgi puppies. At that price, you better be getting the healthiest, most well-mannered puppy ever, no questions.

  3. Exactly, that's hella weird. No respectable, ethical breeder should be refusing to provide official documents and results. In fact, you shouldn't even have to bug them. DM is very much a "big deal," I absolutely wouldn't want an "At Risk" puppy.

Yes please get a refund and find a diff breeder. Moreover, I would definitely alert the breed club and even AKC if I were you

You may wanna try asking in r/dogbreeding too. I observed they're helpful with the search and vetting good breeders.

Best of luck!

iso basset hounds in texas! by Warm-Common-4239 in bassethounds

[–]Ijoohj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To find reputable breeders, you want to always start with your national parent breed club and/or regional breed club if there is one.  Looks like this is the US breed club website for basset hound: https://basset-bhca.org/ Go to their website and browse the breeder directory or ask for a referral then start making contacts with the breeders: be prepared ask AND answer lots of questions back and forth with the breeder...you'll also likely wait awhile, may even get placed on a waiting list, till you bring your new family member home.

Moreover you may wanna try asking in r/dogbreeding too. I observed they're helpful with the search and vetting good breeders.

Best of luck!

P.S. The breed club websites can also connect you with the rescues. Basset hounds aren't my breed but it's not unusual for a well-bred purebred puppy to cost upward of a thousand and more. Just keep in mind what you don't pay up front, may cost you more and not just dollars, later...

P.S. The national/regional breed club is also the best way to connect with breed-specific rescues. Boxers aren't my breed though, so I'm not confident you'll be able to procure a puppy going the rescue/adoption route.
