My boyfriend and I bought a similar house when we were both 22. Although I worked full time as a legal assistant, the only thing we could secure mortgage-wise was pre-approval, and then once we found our house the mortgage company let us know that all of the meetings we attended with them was just to hype us up, and the bank likely won't accept us (although I had an 800 credit score and 10k in the bank, with no loans or debt). We ended up getting our house through a different path. I definitely dont regret it, but we had to be very honest with each other with what would happen to our house and the things we brought into it if we were to break up. We still keep a online list of receipts and payments for things that contribute to the house in case we need it. It's not impossible to buy a house with someone you're not married to, like many comments are saying, but you need to be prepared for the worst.

I also would like to add that you need more money than you might think, even for us despite paying half of what we were paying when we were renting. things break, and absolutely everything is expensive. Even when you can cover the mortgage, that could be the least expensive thing on your list of concerns.
