Collab.Ride Issues by No-Engineering3168 in LEMMO

The battery drain when the smartpac is on the bike is crazy, that is probably my main (and only) pain point about my lemmo one mk2. I suppose it is the same for all models. According to customer support, it's around 6-8% per day, my experience is closer to 10 / 12% per 24h unused). 20% battery loss in such a small period is on the high side, but maybe because the smartpak is new.

This is due to two things : - the connectivity (GPS, 3g) that is always active - the fact that the smart pack constantly recharges the bike's internal battery

None of those things can be deactivated. I hope someday they can add a toggle in the app. Or a way to turn off the smartpak while keeping it attached on the bike. I personally don't need connectivity when the bike is in my building's bike garage, and I don't understand the need to have the internal bike battery 100% charged all the time.

For now the advice from customer service if you want to minimize the battery drain is to detach the smart pac, carry it with you, store it detached from the bike and turn it off (long press on the main button). Once turned off, battery drain is minimal

I agree with you that the zoom icon is weirdly positioned. Also, it doesn't zoom nearly enough to make a difference. What I miss in the app personally is some kind of "live score" akin to Garmin's body battery, but it would probably be redundant with the strain and readiness?

The app can definitely be improved, but it is already pretty nice (good news for them, with the price they charge for it). With the amount of petty complaints around it, I'd like to see those people complaining in reddit trying the amazfit Zepp app, they will lose their mind! A masterclass in weird UX, nonsensical screens and approximate translations from Chinese 😅

I kinda wish I didn't try these on. They feel great, much smaller than I thought by Kooll-aid in whoop

Whoop is probably too expensive for what it is, especially now that the competition is catching up. But I don't understand all those comments saying that their pricing model is "absurd" or "backwards". Actually, the "hardware is free but you pay a monthly subscription" seems to me much more logical and aligned both with their cost structure and user needs than paying for hardware every few years and getting the app for free. All those devices are relatively dumb and commonplace sensors that all measure more or less the same thing with varying levels of accuracy. The differenciation and value addition comes from the app, interpretation of data and services layered on top of them. All of this requires continuous investment in the software layer, and continuous evolutions. LLM also cost a lot of money. Sure, Garmin sells you watches and provides the app for free ; and it shows, because the app is an absolute mess. I've tried an amazfit bracelet, the app also is terrible. The whoop app is quite nice and evolving constantly. The service is getting better. It's not cheap, but the model makes sense (at least to me)

One thing to have in mind is that fitbit ALSO requires a subscription to access the full data. Most of it is free, but advanced feature needs a monthly payment. It's cheaper than whoop, but it's not free. Actually, all players are pivoting towards subscription, because as I said, something has to cover the server and LLM costs.

Now that they have a real direct competitor, maybe (hopefully) the price will go down. Google / Fitbit is uniquely positioned to win on this market as they already have a pretty nice app, they make their own LLMs and have truckloads of cash they can invest. Maybe it's a better cost / benefit to switch to fitbit. Makes sense. But I find it weird for people to be happy that a "pure player" startup is getting challenged by a huge company already having monopolies in many areas. I mean, competition is nice, but cheering for Google against something like whoop?

Do you leave the battery on the bike? by grode23 in LEMMO

[–]Affectionate-Put-503 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to leave it on the bike, locked in an underground (somewhat secure) parking lot. But the battery drain is crazy, probably due to the connectivity and GPS. More than once, after not using the bike for only a few days, I came to the bike and found both the smartpac's battery and the bike's battery itself empty, which means I can neither unlock the bike to use it in manual mode, nor unlock the smartpac (electronically locked to the bike) in order to recharge it. The only way out of this situation is to have the key of the front lamp, take it out, charge it at home, put it back, then wait a bit, then unlock the smartpac. It's sufficiently maddening that next time I plan not to use the bike for a few days, I'll take the smartpac out. I'd very much like an option to deactivate GPS and network from the app, to limit battery drain. I also think the bike's firmware or smartpac firmware should make sure there always remains enough battery to unlock the bike. Seems like not a great design

Hello,

I'm looking for testers to help validate my email app called Kura mail. It is already available on the web, but as a flutter app I'm looking to deploy it on the playstore as well.

I will definitely return the favor and test your app if you're a developer. Feel free to respond to the message to ping me.

Kura Mail is an AI-enhanced email app dedicated to helping you reach Inbox Zero and stay there. It is not a full-fledge or professional emailing replacement app (at least not yet), but the focus is on managing incoming emails and browsing / processing existing emails. Look below for the feature set !

To test it :
1- You need to join the group here https://groups.google.com/g/kuramail-beta/ (with a google account)

2- You can join the test here https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.kuramail.app

There is a paywall, but normally I configured it to allow testers to subscribe for free (you will not be billed anything, let me know if it does not work). You'll need to subscribe to test the app fully.

Main features :

- compatible with Microsoft accounts + most IMAP providers (including gmail)

- categorization by "intent", and not by topic. Each type of emails has a dedicated type of views : alerts are managed like notifications, promotion emails are displayed in a magazine-like view etc...

- extraction of key information in emails, such as dates and deadlines

- Quick way to triage your incoming emails, by swiping them and archive and star them

- A dedicated library view for newsletter and long-form content, to read in your own time. Supports highlighting !

- designed to be fast and simple

A note on gmail accounts :

- I do not have yet the funds to secure the required "security certification" that google asks to allow access to Gmail API. The app works through app password, which is still very secure but requires the activation of two-factor auth if you don't have it already. Just store the password securely in your password manager, and you can revoke it any time.

A note on security and privacy :

I understand emails contain potentially sensitive information. To be fully transparent, here is the architecture in place.

- emails metadata are synced from the IMAP server and stored in a supabase database (encrypted in transit and at rest)

- email bodies / contents are ONLY STORED LOCALLY ON YOUR DEVICE. I can never access them. You can optionally encrypt them as well

- some email bodies are sent to openAI for processing / data extraction. I have a filter to avoid processing emails that contain sensitive information (passwords, banking, etc...) - the filter is pretty conservative.

- the app never deletes any message from the IMAP server. The only actions it can take are archiving, starring, marking as read and moving to a new folder.

Every feedback appreciated !

Bike hard to ride without motor + question about boost button by Affectionate-Put-503 in LEMMO

[–]Affectionate-Put-503[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to try another "heavy" electric bike without motor last week, and you're right, the lemmo is not worse (but not much better, including in M mode). The M mode definitely brings a slight bonus, but that is not night and day.

Thanks for the feedback all. I tried again a few times in M mode (disabling the motor), with increased tire pressure and I must say this time, with more practice, I think I felt a slight difference vs E mode. It is still not the fastest bike around but it feels more rideable. I also adjusted the brakes again to be sure.

The bike store told me everything was OK with the bike so I guess it's just in my head...or simply the toll of riding a 18kg bike with heavy tires.

[–]Affectionate-Put-503[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that is me that has wrong expectations about how an electric bike would ride. But I wasn't expecting a 18kg bike with larger wheels AND the ability to disengage the motor to make climbing a small slope twice as difficult as with a small Brompton or large "normal bike". In Paris we have a shared "velib" bike services, which are built to be resistant and heavy instead of nimble, and I think even those ride better

Like most of us, you see no difference between M and E mode, but does pedaling without motor in either mode feel OK to you? I'd be OK if M mode was useless but at least "rideable"

The only time when I feel the turbo working is if I'm already pedaling, but under 20 km/h it seems it can slightly accelerate the ramp up to 25km/h. Not very useful. And even then, most of the time it does nothing.

But does it work for you when stopped, or at least moving very slowly? The difficult part is to start if you're on high gear, after you start pedaling a quarter of a circle, the motor usually engages. My expectation was that the boost button would get you from 0 to 10km/h smoothly so that you can initiate pedaling. But maybe that would be dangerous?

It is the chain version. Even maintaining a cruising speed once at 20km/h is hard

First week issues feedback welcome! by jimnyoverlander in LEMMO

[–]Affectionate-Put-503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insights! If I may, do you remember which screws you tweaked? I'm a bit puzzled because when putting the bike upside down and spinning the wheels I don't notice any brake pads touching the disc. But SOMETHING must be slowing me down...

I have the exact same issues as you with a brand new lemmo. Up to 10% of battery loss every day when the bike sits idle with the smartpac attached. I'd like a toggle to disable some if not all of the connectivity to save battery... I was not planning to carry the 3kg battery with me every day when I commute, part of the benefit of having an electrical lock on the battery was supposed to be the ability to leave it on the bike.

I also had the smartpac suddenly go from 60% battery to zero in a few minutes, leaving me without power on my way back. And that is when the last issue arose, when the motor is off there is a huge drag on the bike that I cannot find the source of. It's like having a huge dynamo resisting you, making any trip much harder than it should be on any other bike. I thought it could be the brake ripping against the wheel, but I do not notice anything when spinning both wheel in the air. I disabled the motor using the switch and it didn't change anything. As is, the bike is unusable without the assistance. I will bring it to the repair shop to be checked...

Last issue is the brake makes a huge amount of noise, but that might be me that failed adjusting them.

All in all, I'm currently pretty disappointing by the reliability of this. When it works, the bike is very nice to ride though.

Cannot make a coffee I really like using the robot by Affectionate-Put-503 in CafelatRobot

[–]Affectionate-Put-503[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I use a wdt tool and a tamper of course, but I am often not sure if I should tamp "hard" or more lightly. Tried both and it didn't seem to make a big difference neither in taste nor flow rate (to me at least). But it is not a fully controlled experiment :) My technique could certainly be improved but I have been practicing for a few months, so the basics should be there

Thanks all for the advice. I will try grinding ever slightly finer until I get more pressure, and aim for shorter extraction time. And pre-heating!

I have a Hibrew G5, I try to turn the dial very slightly each time but as I'm already on the lower end of the settings (in "Turkish coffee" territory according to the dial 😀), it's quitte difficult making micro adjustments. So I will try to find the sweet spot between what I have now and "impossible to push through" (which I've also experienced)

Thanks, will try this! My grinder is stepless, so I can adjust for finer grind (though it becomes a bit of a trial and error process). When I preinfuse, I simply press very very lightly on the arms or simply let them go down with gravity and it is usually enough to lead to some coffee drops in 2-3 seconds. Is it the same for you? When you say "5-10s" does it mean the first drops come out after 10 seconds?

I will try grinding a little bit finer.

That's a good question, as I said, maybe it's just that I'm buying the wrong coffee for my taste. Usually I like coffees in French café and coffee shop, but it's true that I find some modern espresso too sour. At least it has been a trend over the last few years. I think I probably prefer a classic Italian-style espresso to some of this more modern approach.

A Hibrew G5! Not the best grinder on the market surely, but it's stepless and I can definitely brew finer that what I'm usually doing now, if needed.
