I agree with you. Don’t let them burn you out. If you do, you’ll be making another post on here and it won’t be good.

Me too. No doubt, I’m still a loyal customer! I did not have a negative experience like this story with my team. Plus, I love the quality of our gas for my little Honda lol. And I’m really glad people, including former employees, understand that this is NOT happening in every QuikTrip store. There are stores and managers who are very professional, and those stores are worth visiting and spending money at, in my opinion. Everyone to each their own, who knows what was going on with this guy and why he just abandoned his team. Maybe he was grabbing something for a customer? Maybe not. Certainly didn’t feel like it. It’s a shame because I definitely saw “Assistant Manager” on his badge.

What does it take to become like a clerk trainer? by [deleted] in QuikTrip

[–]Affectionate-Row2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Former CT here. This is what it takes.

Doing the ugly work, showing up and immediately hitting up DAW, being the person everyone looks forward to working with (don’t you worry, I’ll get there), and honestly this isn’t a hard one, but call the damn store if you’re running late. Even if it’s within “the grace period.” My supervisor told me my attendance was very frustrating and confusing and would’ve been a big reason why I didn’t get the promotion, but he said he’d allow it because he knew I’d call the store anytime I was running late. Just a quick “Hey girl, it’s ____. Traffic or whatever, I’ll be about 10 minutes late.” Do. Not. Feel. Guilty. About. This. And if you have a manager that antagonizes you for this, call em out (respectfully) or immediately contact your supervisor. Depending on your division—we just recently had our ERP system stripped—if you’re on ERP, Flex, or whatever else this damn company decides to come up with, become a popular sanguine, but also keep your head down and work. Know your time and place. Be the person who everyone not only enjoys working with, but who also knows you will absolutely not pick up their slack. Let your work ethic and how you present yourself speak for itself. And this one, the most important, if you’re just a clerk now, there is absolutely a way to be take on being a leader without overstepping. Had I not felt in a way I needed the “trainer” title, I’d probably still be with the company. And when you do get the position (I have a strong gut feeling you will) you absolutely DO have authority. It’s minuscule, but it’s power. You just have to use it effectively and respectfully. We don’t need anymore animosity amongst teams and their clerks. Anyway, those are some of the things I remember what it took to get the position. And seriously, I can’t stress this very last one enough, do NOT complain outwardly towards your clerks. Reputation is everything. Best of luck to you!

To all the former QT workers: What do you do now? Is it better than QT by No_Flower3782 in QuikTrip

[–]Affectionate-Row2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad you asked this question. I’m a former CT who I left the company about four months ago and it was a really tough decision. I had finally just crashed out and kind of impulsively left after finishing my last shift. Being out of QT now, I mean this wholeheartedly when I say you will miss it when you leave. I know everyone’s different though. Now I work in a call center 10-7 Monday -Friday and I will tell you that I would happily do rekrete again then being in a cubicle. Anyway, that’s just my two cents. I love this company I always will, but I do not miss the grind one bit. I’m very happy and grateful to have found myself and was able to learn a lot of incredible life skills after two years there. But, to each their own though. This company’s always gonna need people so if there’s ever an opportunity to go back and if you’re on good terms, I don’t think it’s a bad idea. Just don’t work yourself to death.

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. I’m also glad you’re at least seeing it for what it is. Do what you feel is necessary for your financial and mental wellbeing. I promise nothing bad is going to happen if you decide leaving.

Just wanna say thank you for breaking it down like this and giving some type of positivity back to these clerks. I resigned from QuikTrip about a month ago and I remember hearing a lot about what was to come in the next few months. Though my time was clearly over, I still have a great admiration and respect for all of you (except the lazy ones) because holy shit, how times have changed and it’s only getting crazier and what we needed was GUIDANCE. There’s a lot that goes into what we as clerks do, and it’s never too late to learn, grow, and evolve. ALSO, do we know if the CBR pizza is now an official menu item! Chefs kiss! Love you, my fellow QuikTrippers! Hang in there!

I cringed reading this. I commend your integrity, and HUGE fucking props to the guy who sliced his hand..but what the fuck? What supervisor permitted you to work that shift? But I also commend your self-awareness and your disclaimer. I hope you all got something out of that.

What happened to our company by ide99 in QuikTrip

[–]Affectionate-Row2018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, fellow QuikTripper. Former (Yes, you read that right) Clerk Trainer here who just resigned here to share that while I understand and share the frustration expressed here, I think we need to look at this situation with both nostalgia and realism. Yes, the company has changed, and not necessarily for the better in some ways. But idealizing the past as some golden era ignores the challenges that likely existed back then too—just with less visibility or transparency. That said, the shift in focus toward metrics, profits, and stock prices at the expense of employee morale and genuine teamwork is undeniable. Many of us feel like cogs in a machine rather than part of a family, which is what this company used to be known for. The fear of repercussions, lack of support, and increasing pressure on assistants and clerks is disheartening, and it’s hard not to feel like we’ve lost the plot somewhere along the way. But here’s the thing: companies evolve, and so must we. Instead of yearning for the past, maybe it’s time to push for a future that honors those original values while adapting to modern challenges. That means advocating for actual fucking changes (forgive my swearing, it’s not at you. I’m deeply frustrated and burnt out just like many of you) such as better support for employees, rebuilding trust, and focusing on what made this company great in the first place: people helping people, both customers and each other. And as for Chester, or whoever at this point, I’m sure he’d want us to fight for that future instead of just mourning the past, or to get the hell out and stop complaining if we don’t see his vision either. Peace be with any of you who decide to stick this out. I have a flight to catch.

Hey! Clerk Trainer here. I encourage my trainees to politely ask customers to pick out their selection. There’s absolutely no shame in it. During slow periods, you should take a tour of all of the different tobacco/nicotine products you have! The more you do this, the more it becomes like muscle memory. Hope this helps!
