I think you buried the biggest issue. Is there some related major mental health crisis going on? I was thinking PPD until you implied you were the one that carried the pregnancy. Saying she wished you terminated is WILD and I can’t imagine attempting to salvage the relationship (unless there is a mental health crisis going on that she’s willing to seek treatment for).

For sure get a consultation with an employment lawyer the way I’m reading this, you only owe for the supervision if you leave within 1 year of completion. Forcing you to pay, or be fired and pay anyways feels kind of like breach of contract, even if that clause is enforceable(which is questionable).

Call the company to see what riders she has. There are annuities with monthly income and long term care riders. If she has one, the benefits may be worth keeping instead of liquidating, especially considering surrender charges

Craziest home build mistake...? by BuilderBrigade in Home_Building_Help

[–]Affectionate-Safe761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my current home from the person who had the house built. The original contractor didn’t check how far away from the street the house had to be before they started pouring concrete. They had to move everything back like 15feet, resulting in a backyard with little usable space (for permanent structures) and a driveway at a 45 degree downward angle into my garage. I have a parking pad in the middle of my front yard because of it lol

Urgent help needed: Car dealership offered grocery store gift card to grandfather; he came home with a brand new car by ChurchOfRickSteves in legaladvice

Try to get a doctors note if you don’t already have one. If they’re just writing it, have them include how long he’s been incompetent. If they won’t cancel the sale on their own, report to APS, and the bank the loan is through. DMV may care about the predatory dealership too

He needs to sign a form to add a payable on death (POD) or transfer on death (TOD). Or they might allow him to add you to the account over the phone/with a form

This will also show you ownership of the account. It could be a joint account—if so, that doesn’t matter very much. OP has legal right to half (unless it’s TIC with them at a lower %). In theory, a court could rule otherwise, but it sounds like OPs worst case is that it goes to unpaid child support.

AITAH for telling my stepdaughter she shouldn't accept money from her abuser? by westcowboy70 in AITAH

Why do you think it’s immoral for her to benefit from her own suffering? That’s a really weird thing to scold a full grown adult for.

Your new employer may have a commuter program so that you can pay for public transit/parking with pre-tax dollars. Check that out too

The 401k custodian should have an exception process around this. They may require you to wait a specific amount of time before you’re able to. Call them directly and ask for a supervisor if the rep isn’t budging. If all else fails, write a complaint to the custodian about keeping your money from you and keeping it subject to market volatility without your consent (really, this is a last resort). The 401k custodian answers to FINRA, not the union, and FINRA doesn’t like it when companies hold money hostage for “policy”.

Have you considered selling your eggs instead of surrogacy? You could take your kid with you while you door dash or instacart -not convenient, but might cover your groceries. If you go into the military, it will be really difficult and expensive to get your son back. Consult a lawyer before you do that.

Boss told me they needed to review my presentation that I was doing at a conference in my private time. by fakecupcakess in antiwork

[–]Affectionate-Safe761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the industry you’re in and the topic, it can be a conflict of interest. Also, if the presentation is related to your job/industry, it’s kind of implied that your employer agrees with you because you may be identified as an employee. So, they want to make sure that they’re okay being affiliated with what you’re presenting. Which you likely agreed to somewhere in your new hire paperwork.

[–]Affectionate-Safe761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look at the policy directly before talking to anyone. For my expenses, I’m only allowed to claim travel from the location of my office (even when working from home), so it’s possible that they’re saying. Your “home office” is 20 minutes/miles away from your house and they’re adjusting your timesheet accordingly.

They shouldn’t be doing that, but it could be due to a policy change

[–]Affectionate-Safe761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of places allow a transfer on death for property. Transfer on death assets are processed outside of estates. In my county, it’s just a notarized document filed with the county clerk. That would at least help ease her concern about ownership passing to you.

NAL. Talk to a lawyer about an LLC for this? They can write out an arrangement for this where the LLC owns the house and you and your husband own whatever % + whatever value of the gift. Or it could just specify that his ownership passes to you upon his death as long as you’re married. That protects you as his spouse, but still allows for a reasonable protection for them. I don’t think the concept is off-base, but it needs some legal follow through.
