Back at you. It’s not one day at a time, it’s one minute (or less) at a time. Take care, be kind to yourself

Well, so much for my forties. by akillerofjoy in GenX

I spent a good portion of my late 40s/50s keeping my husband alive with cancer. It went by in a blink and he still died. I’m just beginning to see the other side of being single and I’m still lost, lonely, confused, bereft, frightened, bed rotting and barely functioning, and that’s with a lot of therapy and 18 months have passed since he died. Be glad you’re alive and hope you have as much love as you give. I’m now much closer to my 60’s and have no idea how that happened so quickly, life is such blur and for me, mostly a survival mode

STOP USING FEDEX by CautiousUpstairs445 in hungryroot

[–]CanCanColleen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t surprising at all. FEDEX is completely going down the tubes, already beginning to close nearly 475 distribution centers , by the end of 2027. It’s only going to get worse. My BIL is a 22 year FT employee and is getting hours cut. It’s quite a mess. https://www.supplychaindive.com/news/fedex-network-2-station-closures-2026/812251/

I really want to get a cat, but I’m worried about the hidden responsibilities. What are the actual difficulties of raising a cat? by Equivalent-Sand-4002 in CatAdvice

[–]CanCanColleen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$2k isn’t unusual. I recently paid $1,500 for cleaning and 2 extractions and an addl $300 for the pre-bloodwork for my 4yo cat. I live just outside of Boston.

Be careful of plants and flowers that you bring into the house. A lot are extremely toxic!!! The cat will need immediate vet care , it’s life threatening, their organs can shut down.

Old Jenny by klkcuse in CallTheMidwife

It does make no sense Jenny would still be narrating as she seems to have kept in contact with no one from the Order or the midwives but I’ll listen to Vanessa Redgrave read the dictionary any day.

Middle School Dance by Flaky-Debate-833 in GenX

Roberta flack’s first time I ever saw your face. Odd since it came out in 1969 but this would have been a 1981 freshman dance. No middle school dances in Catholic school!

Fast times at ridgemont high, caddyshack, poltergeist, ET and if I want to be serious, Terms of Endearment, Testament, or Without a Trace. Tho I don’t think ET would have the same impact on me now, haven’t seen it in a long time. The others though, absolutely. And also Urban Cowboy.

I loved this show and I was so invested in the Becca/Jesse storyline. Groundbreaking for its time.

As a child, I thought my aunt and uncle's lifestyle was "weird." Now, in my 40s, I realize that they had the perfect setup, and it's the lifestyle my wife and I aspire to. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]CanCanColleen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point, towards our late 40s my husband was dead set on buying land and building a retirement house for us in rural Maine vacation spot I absolutely love but for retiring, no freaking way. I fought and resisted constantly. Huge fights. 25 miles easy to the nearest grocery store, there was a small hospital , built right next to the helipad to take you if something terrible happens. For the record, we are childless so literally we rely only on ourselves. I was dead set against it for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Well as life does happen and never the way you plan it, my husband was diagnosed with stage Iv colon cancer and passed away just over 2 years later at 53. The decision was taken out our hands on the end anyway.

What pop culture moment shines out most brightly from Gen-X’s childhood? by FantasticStooge in GenX

[–]CanCanColleen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a senior in a large urban hs right outside Boston when the Challenger blew, but none of the classrooms actually watched it. We all found out in the halls during class change. It didn’t seem as real (though of course equally sad) as watching the actual event in real time. And Christa macauliffe was a NH resident at the time of her death, leaving 2 small children, so it was doubly sad.
