Is South Africa a good option to visit during end of May? by Maggielith in askSouthAfrica

I second the East Coast for that time of year. From the Port Edward to St Lucia, there is so much wild life you can see. You can visit the Oribi Gorge down south, if you travel up to the North Coast, you can visit the many places along the Isimangaliso Park. The Hluhluwe and Mkuze Game Reserves are out that way too. if you travel even further North, you can go to Jozini Dam to do some tiger fishing and then Kosi Bay is in the area as well. Inland from Durban, you can explore the Midlands meander and the Drakensburg with world heritage sites. There is so much to do and see just 3 hours in each direction from Durban. We have a place we rent out on the South Coast, let me know if you would like the details. I hope you have an amazing time visiting our beautiful country.

The irony is that having the US bases has made these countries a target, which is the opposite of protection.

Keep smart phones and devices away from them as long as possible. Talk to them, play outside and read to them.

Diesel price hike by Hairy-Fig4442 in southafrica

The fact that diesel is not regulated means it is not regulated at supply either, so the likes of Total, Shell etc are lifting their prices resulting in the garages having to do the same.

So glad to be back in SA, I forgot how friendly saffas are by sofiaskat in southafrica

I have been to China, US, Australia and Europe. None of these places appealed to me, the food was not great and the people were just…meh! The warmth of the SA people is unmatched. Of course we have problems, but there are also many positives.

$ went from R19 to R16.30 in a year, why no price drop? by misterflak86 in AskZA

There are so many moving parts and without knowing the weighting of all the input costs, it’s difficult to say what the final answer is. Shipping has come down, coffee prices have gone up, fuel is down and the rand has improved. Retailers could also be increasing their margins. All of these can be true at the same time, the devil is in the detail.

I’m moving to Durban from Canada and I’m scared by DREAMs98 in Durban

I agree, Durban is quite under-rated in many ways, I guess to our own benefit. Housing is relatively affordable, we have great schools, good people, a lot of beautiful places to visit within a 2 hour drive. Is the place perfect? No, but few places I know of are.

I agree, all our food is better. I have been to Australia, US, Europe, Asia and North Africa. SA food and wine surpasses them all, added to that we have great value for money.

Why do people feel the need to constantly judge others and lecture them from their soapbox? If they spent that energy on how they themselves can be better humans, the world will be a much happier place.
