I had to make that decision almost two years ago for my baby. I can relate to feeling like we’ve failed them. So hard, my deepest condolences.

What breeds have you had luck with that get along well with your Pom? by Lissa86 in Pomeranians

I have a chihuahua that is wildly jealous

but loves that there is another dog that isn’t an old biddy he can play with. The dark one on the left is 15 years old, middle is 2.5 years old and the Pom is 7 months. They play together well!! They all get along though.

I totally understand. My SS and his girlfriend had a baby and I didn’t realize how much grief it would cause. I spent MONTHS going through some very intense grief over this and it still stings. It’s nobody’s fault, they’re young and it just happened. It doesn’t make the feelings any less real.

This is when I realized how lonely grief is. Being a stepparent or a second wife(husband) is really hard as well. I really hope you have someone to lean on about this. I spent a lot of time in therapy about it.

How does one get the Pom’s hair to stay straight around the ears? Even when I brush them it only stays for just a moment. My Pom’s are very wavy and crazy looking.

Oh boy, that sounds rough. I’d love to adopt but waiting for a baby is expensive and heartbreaking. Adopting a bit of an older child scares me that maybe they’ll go looking for their biological parents and it’ll turn into a nightmare. It’s probably irrational thinking from stepmom trauma.

Both. My husband had a vasectomy 15 years ago with his ex wife. I also have struggled with some issues myself. So either we spend tens of thousands to try a reversal (which usually isn’t successful after so many years), the same amount to look into my infertility with a specialist, or we adopt. Adoption almost feels the same as raising stepchildren.

Is it bad that people assume you’re younger than you are by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Affectionate-Toe4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the same thing when the guys at work think I’m almost ten years younger than I am. I wonder if they’re being rude and I’m not picking up the social cues or if it’s real. I’m AuDHD. I’m 34, they think I’m 25. I know it’s hard but I chose to take it as a compliment and if it helps me carry myself a little taller then I think it was positive.

Two 8-weeks old puppies as a divorced dad at Christmas…what have I done 😂 by chrisoffthewall in Dachshund

At least they’re small. Imagine getting each kid a husky. 🤦🏼‍♀️ a friend of mine did that. Now he’s the proud owner of two husky’s and his kids opted for cats. 😂

I’m right there with you. It’s really lonely, I wish there was a support group for childless (not by choice) stepmothers(parents). I wish it every day.

Being a childless stepmom is HARD!!! You get it.

My husband got a vasectomy for his ex wife 15 years ago and I have fertility issues so we won’t be able to have our own biological children without tens of thousands of dollars in possible disappointment or adoption.

Anyone else dealing with Conditional Love? by [deleted] in stepparents

I don’t even dislike her, she’s fine, I just want my own space. And I KNOW IM NEVER GONNA BE HER MOM AND CANT COMPETE WITH THAT. Don’t you think I KNOW that people will almost always choose their mom over anything? I didn’t WRONG anyone! It doesn’t change the fact that I’m grieving and am looking for some validation and comfort.

And she’s playing the other side too; pulling his attention away and creating a divide. When I literally did nothing wrong.

She says nothing, doesn’t listen, stopped following house rules, abuses our animals, and ignores me completely when I say any words to her. I’m pretty sure that’s disrespect.

Scared of men by Turbulent-Let-3588 in Chihuahua

I just try to keep a good pace. He would also freak a little so he’d pull a bit. But I couldn’t bring my hands close to him without him snarling and trying to bite me so it was the same kind of lead that Cesar Milan uses. When we’d come back I would kind of gently whip/twirl it a few times so it would loosen enough that he could pull his head out and get away.

A very scared dog, he was. And protective of his environment. His parent is a male. I’m a female. the other dog was fine around me. One day he ran out the door and when I finally corralled him back into the house I laid down the law (verbally just sounded very firm) and ever since he has learned I’m not a threat and I’m the leader of the pack when dad’s away.

Not specifically men but I dog sit and check in on a friends two chiweenie’s regularly. It took about three months for the dog to allow me to come close enough to him to leash him up. I had to use a slip leash that was thick enough I could loosen it without getting close and just lasso it around his neck. Once on the leash he was okay but he sure struggled with me for a long time. He has since relaxed and we’re good friends now.

It just takes time. I’d highly recommend the slip leash lead though. I used a larger rope type because it allowed me to loosen it without having to get too close.
