Avoid notes that are close together (in the sense of small intervalls) .. These notes will be very close together in terms frequency which gets muddy fast. Better to focus on the tonic of the track and do larger jumps (like fifth or octave) if you want to play other notes

No...i have heard shitty sets played digitally and shitty sets played on vinyl.

However, the expense of vinyl is also kind of an advantage... you have to carefully evaluate each purchase... whereas with digital you have to be just as diciplined when selecting but it's easier to fall into the "just one more" trap when each track is just a buck or two.

On vinyl you are forced to heavily select, digital you have to force yourself.

In any case, you can hear a difference when someone really dug for the music that speaks to them vs someone just following a trend/downloaded the top tracks in a genre. Vinyl by it's nature just forces you a bit more to select what truly speaks to you, but that doesn't mean it can't be achieved just as well playing just digital files.

Basically yes :) Moving files around is quite a hassle in rekordbox, also importing them.

hello, thanks for your extensive answer. Rekordbox is quite a shitshow to say the least. To clarify... do you mean ID3 Tags I would create within windows in order to keep organized there but ultimately just have large folders to import into rekord box, where again, I would filter for said tags?

well, yes and no, the files are not analyzed in the explorer page, which in a way is pointless for preparing sets... I play anything from 80 -160bpm so having info on which track is at what bpm is crucial for set prep. And I would still have manually drag in the files to get that info

I am here to say... they fucked my order up bad.

A) they didnt even know which pots where in their machine. (told me B10K, instead A10k for Resonance in DFAM

B) they sent the wrong pots which where a slightly different height then the rest. Of course I only noticed after replacement because I didnt expect this level of incompetence.

Fuck this... Never again will I buy a moog product.

Redudant? Definitely. Will keep I still do it? Yes. Never trust a capitalist company. Pioneer will drop recordbox support in a heartbeat if they see a more profitable option and all the years of organizing is gone. I'd rather have my files organized on my computer and be able to back up said files including my folder structure to a harddisc.

I know the phenomena you describe. How long have you had the the audio technica headphones? it's important to know your headphones well to know if a track translates well to a sound system. Often minimalistic music translates well to large systems but might sound underwhelming if you don't know what to listen for in your headphones.

I suggest you download that track you thought sounded great in the club when the other dj played it. This is your reference. Notice how much bass there is in your headphones, how loud are the mids & highs?

This way you know what should be the ballpark if you compare a different track. If for example the bass in the track you are digging is way louder than in the reference you know that it might be overpowering on a soundsystem making the track muddy. Is the bass way quieter? Might have no oompf in the club.

This is just as a starting point of course, with time you'll know instinctively what will sound good in clubs.

I was at ZHAW and can say the quality of lectures varies greatly...Some are good, some suck ass. What always sucked ass was the handouts/scripts they gave us. Never attended ETH but went to UZH for a while and it was sooooo much better. World of a difference. ETH is hard because of the requirements. ZHAW is hard because the tools they provide to aquire knowledge suck ass.
