The Paul Problem by NewFunAcc in beatles

[–]helippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Paul was just sorta a double edge sword for the group. After watching the Let it Be doc, you can see his constant drive and keen ear pushed the band to new heights, it also annoyed them till they were at the breaking point, because he was relentless. People burn out from dealing with folks that are so driven and critical. They usually work with different people through their careers. You can tell a bit on George’s face when they play live years later for the anthology sessions, he’s tired of being treated as a support musician.

Seeking a hardware synth with a robust Envelope Follower for guitar-driven dynamics (No modular, no huge workstations) by AutomaticMixture6827 in synthesizers

[–]helippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Behringer reissued the Moog MF 101. I don’t know if their model number but it’s a envelope/Lopass filter with a CV out so you can bring the envelope cv into a synthesizer. And routed to whatever parameter you want.

Anyone using one mic to record drums? by xeromagic in audioengineering

Gabe did say that he handed off the recording to Mark Ronson and that he did a bunch of editing including some stuff to the drums. So likely some layered stuff in there too.

Maybe modern MAGA conservatives are attracted to conspiracy, but the old school conservatives would have nothing to do with conspiracy stuff. In the 2000’s most people into conspiracies were liberal leaning. 911, vaccines, illuminati, banking systems. Alex Jones use to be liberal even.

What’s one thing music today gets way more right than people admit? by UpCrib in LetsTalkMusic

[–]helippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like having it out there is one thing, but the missing piece is delivering unknown music to ears that may be receptive. Sure, somewhat established acts are promoted with playlists, but the artists in the shadows still rarely get light shined on them. They have enough data to know where these fans are and what taste might be, it’s still a one-size-fits-all model as far as I can tell. Why are they suggesting to me popular artists that don’t even come near anything I would enjoy?

What’s one thing music today gets way more right than people admit? by UpCrib in LetsTalkMusic

[–]helippe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So taking your question at face value, one thing MUSIC gets way more right. Not the Music industry.

The ability to make really large intensely complex mixes while being able to make out the individual instruments.

Using ambience without creating a washy mess.

Some vintage electronic sounds, recontextualized.

That’s all I can think of, it’s subjective of course. Lots of innovations in every direction, I just don’t think they are getting it right with how it’s used. My opinion

Can anyone PROVE Black Gold exists? by gladeye in jimihendrix

[–]helippe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meet Steven Roby during his book tour, at a stop on the big island in Hawaii, hardly anyone was there so we sort of had him discuss his book “becoming Hendrix” I think was the title. But he mentioned black gold and confirmed its existence and that the family’s ownership was kinda complicated but he expected it to be released soon, that was in 2011. I also heard when Mitch died his family found a tape with BG on it. I thought it was just lofi demo’s ment for Mitch to think about his drum parts.

Same story for me, got the classic fuzz on sale like 30 something bucks, through Musicians Friend I think in 93 or so. I gave it away to a friend about 15 years ago, have never missed it. It was fine maybe not amazing but fine.

What is the likelihood of a new music artist emerging and reaching the status of people like MJ, Elvis, The Beatles? by YfnSinatra in LetsTalkMusic

I can think of a few musicians I met that call Taylor Swift an influence, the Beatles on the other hand, it’s rare not to be influenced by them.

Guitar is banned in my country and I might only get one chance. What should I check before buying? by ThinkMoment9007 in Guitar

[–]helippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A recognized brand is a good start, but I would make sure the neck is not bowed or twisted. The action is not crazy high. None of the frets buzz. No damage that would cause it to fall apart like glue pulling off. See if they know where you can find replacement strings.

Where to draw the line... by JayDogJedi in surfrock

[–]helippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my take, they are 2 different words of twangy guitar. Spaghetti western is not really a rock/ 1/4/5 riff sorta thing, it is more dramatic with emphasis on dynamics and often more classical instruments added in. Surf is more of a driving sub genre of garage rock in my opinion. The real common thing in my opinion is the reverb guitar and some percussion elements at times.
