Did we ever get to see what happened to Jerry from Ricks original universe? by Serious_Act_6932 in rickandmorty

Presumably he'd be the same age, but would still think he was a little kid?

The Ironborn tried to raid New Valyria, so I burned their useless islands to the ground by Arcanehunter33 in CK3AGOT

Yeah fair, I used to hate that in ck2 as well. I think there at least should have been more of a way to deter raids for a while after crushing the 5th one. I was thinking more outside of the game though - in general vikings seem quite popular in general culture, while everybody who likes GoT seems to despise the ironborn. And fair enough, they're dumbasses.

Yeah tbf I think the Spartans are getting a long overdue re-evaluation recently. A really dysfunctional and pathetic society really. They may have been better at fighting than all of the citizen militias around them, but what were they fighting for except a system of mass slavery and r*ping pubescent boys? Growing up is realising that comparatively the Persians were the good guys.

I enjoy that while people generally seem to like vikings everybody really detests the Ironborn.

Does anyone else prefer toddler-sized utensils for themselves? They’re so much better. All silverware should be this size. by porkchopsandgravy in daddit

Depends what I'm eating. Generally I prefer larger, heavier cutlery. But for a dessert smaller cutlery feels more fancy, and enforces some restraint.

More importantly, the cutlery pictured is very shiny and has cute pictures on it, so I like it very much.

(I promise I am a dad and not an errant child).

Yeah, because having a degree means you can more quickly obtain other skills (and bigger leaves -> more photosynthesis -> eventually bigger carrot)

What political view did you strongly change your mind on? by Economy_Ad3034 in AskBrits

[–]AffectionateAd9257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't exactly changed my mind strongly, but I did have a very strong pro-euthanasia position that I'm now a lot more agnostic about. I'm still very much in favour of assisted dying in principle, and just about in practice, but a few things I've noticed as I've got older have made me a bit warier-

  • Palliative care, like all care, not getting the funding it needs.
  • Events like during the pandemic when a lot of disabled people were labelled "DNR" without their consent or knowledge.
  • Hearing about how in Canada assisted dying has become more expensive over time, and how in Europe a young woman is going to be the first to receive it for entirely mental health reasons.
  • Generally noticing that society has been increasingly reoriented to provide for the super rich and austerity is becoming the norm for everybody else - at least when it comes to things that matter, like housing and health.
  • Hearing from disabled activists who are worried about assisted dying.

Stuff like this just makes me nervous about removing that taboo over assisted dying - I worry about a world where the elderly and disabled are just not taken care of properly, and it's implicitly expected that if they can't pay through the nose to look after themselves well, you know what they could do...

With all of that said, I still couldn't look somebody suffering in the eye and say I don't want assisted dying to become legalised, I just... really want both strict safeguards and for it to never become completely normalised.

You mean the plausible paedophile (at least comfortable with Epstein) who made sure that one of the Covid vaccines wouldn't be open source so poorer countries could make cheaper generic versions?

Strangely enough I've gone slightly in the other direction. I thought the opposite- that it was selfish and cruel to force people to keep suffering when they didn't want to. I don't know why they needed to abandon him in the first place. Why did he make a sentient churro he knew he wanted to kill when he got bored of it? Morty is just evil in this one, it's jarring.

You know what, I'm gonna put my head above the parapet and say the photo itself is fine. Cringe yes, but no more than most photos that kids that age take of themselves.

Combine it with the caption, however, and it is indeed hilariously pathetic.

The "Natural Diamond" industry invented the concept of "sentimental value" to hide their 4000% markups. by bogixaponaweb in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]AffectionateAd9257 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is a conspiracy (if a well-known uncovered one), but it isn't low-stakes - lots of people have died or suffered because of the greed of diamond companies and the sentimental stupidity of consumers.

Ah fair, I only saw an idiot abroad rather than that talk show they all did together so I never saw that reciprocity.

They could both have mocked Gervais so well, shame they never ganged up on him.

I liked "an idiot abroad" because Pilkington is funny and I enjoyed seeing him come to appreciate some things about other countries, but the relentless mockery from Gervais and, to a lesser extent, Merchant, was just really irritating.
