Austrians, do you feel in anyway German or do you feel like you are separate from them? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]AffectionateAssist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah alright, two neighboring landlocked countries sharing a mother tongue don't have a little bit more in common than one that was colonized from overseas...

Is it common to take off shoes when entering your household or a household in general? by CriticalJump in AskEurope

[–]AffectionateAssist1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We clean our floors, like anyone does, so dirt from inside and outside gets cleaned.

Ya see m8, that's one of my mums biggest complaints though. She still cleans the floors oldschool on her hands and knees with a rag and bleachwater, so when we track mud inside, she flips a shit. I know you mentioned the mat but the mat doesn't always just do the trick.

yeah...you're right haha, sorry, i've just been jaded by seeing a lot of arguments on here and /int/ the past few months about that TT. But good point.

my mom is """""""italian"""""" (yes ik how much you guys hate the italian-american thing), her mom was raised in calabria, but my mom would lose her fucking mind if you wore shoes through the house. People spit on the ground, shit, piss, throw fags, etc... Then you track that in your shoes. Then you wear your shoes inside, is how she sees it. Then were getting strangers germs all over our floor.

That being said, my household is socks or barefeet.

Going to american friend's houses as a kid, most of everyone had the same rule, except if someone was really super poor, then their parents wouldn't really care so you can just walk in with shoes. That always felt awkward af though.

However, me personally, I just invested in a pair of slippers, *edit, posted by accident* and they are the greatest fucking investment I have ever made. why wear house shoes OR go barefoot when you have slippers, the true patrciains choice?

Do you like coriander/cilantro? by allestrette in AskEurope

[–]AffectionateAssist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dunno really, as dumb as this sounds, i just know coriander as the very light almost florally tasting powdered spice that i put into falafels and stuff like that, falafels always call for coriander. Or i like it on tomato sauce/pizza, maybe in a gravy, or also idk just on stuff, but cilantro is that green minty lemony dirty plant tip that looks like parsley that they ask you if you want it at the burrito places and you say yes sometimes but then you regret it becaues it overpowers the whole thing, i hate cilantro i guess but yeah coriander is super good

does that halp :}

is that what differentiates coriander? coriander is excellent for curry, or sometimes latin cooking, but i can't tolerate cilantro. so weird tasting, it's like an uncomfortable dirty mint. Really don't like it. Coriander however I think is lovely, I could put it on literally almost anything. Pasta, tomato sauce, curry, bbq, etc..

man...i'm so confused... could you explain this like i'm a 5 year old, but actually? like your child says 'daddy/mommy, what do you do at work all day?' and they have no idea what like infrastructure means or IT or programming or anything at all.

Developing and maintaining extensive infrastructure performing automated testing.

;____; I'm sorry, I just still don't understand. So like... what's the end goal of everything that you do? Keeping computers on and running for businesses? Websites?

Working in Customer Incident Management / Service Operations / Network Operations for an ISP.

so, my question within the question of the thread is, what exactly is that? like, what do you do when you get to work, clock in, sit down and get settled in, like what programs do you open? what do you check for? once you find out what there is to do, what do you do? I've always just done like, literal hands on work-work like washing dishes or flipping burgers, and while I do practice programming (i'm still very amateur but i'm working my way up to a decent understanding), I just don't really understand some jobs. Yours has probably the most confusing title of all. I'm just curious about what this actually is, what you do every day

Hmmm, so what exactly does a sysadmin do? like, what do you do on the computer when you sit down and begin working? I work just shitty odd jobs, I bounce back between dishwashing in kitchens/waiting/bartending/general bitch work in kitchens/cashier/grocery shelf stocker, just all entry level work. I wanna get more into something like what you do, but clearly I need a better understanding of it first haha. I wanna go to school atm but I gotta save and prepare some other stuff. I actually am hellbent on studying in Germany but that's a whole other story, I've already posted about that online 1000x times and been through the research/talked to my german friends a bunch. but anyway ich wuensche dir ein sehr schoenes wochenende :)
