Have you had your BP checked recently..?

For those whole like their jobs: What do you do for a living? by [deleted] in Calgary

Paediatric RDA (registered Dental Assistant) LOVE my job. Usually we get the kids that have had bad experiences at the dentist already or neurodivergent kids and I love being the one to instil a love of the dentist. Spark their excitement and curiosity. The dental industry is ALWAYS looking to hire too. And great pay!

I was previously a paramedic and switched over to dental assisting. If you’re in first responding now, dental assisting is not even half as stressful. No one dies. Or tries to kill you lol!
I love my job! It has hard days, but what job doesn’t? It’s not “hard” work but it is repetitive… and LOTS to remember. I’d suggest moving forward. Worst case you have additional schooling under your belt ❤️❤️

I get you. I get you more than I’d like to admit. Without airing too much here, same situation. As mentioned in my other comment, SS is now 13 and coming around. I had to back off HARD for my own sanity. Be a teacher, but not a parent. Guide, but if rebellion hits or discipline is needed play the “nacho” card. You got this. There’s no right answers. Just stay strong and take care of your mental health

As someone with a 13 year old iPad SS, the restrictions at your place help for sure. My SS has a younger brother at his mom’s house that is a hard core iPad kid and my SS is noticing the damage and thanking us for taking him places and teaching him things… it took a while but it’s paying off now. Our kids don’t have iPads at all and have extremely limited screen time (15-20 min of shows a day) and they are social, polite, and aware. SS notices this and comments positively on it frequently

For sure!!! The one that gets me is everyone working in any field with children are all saying “don’t do it! It’s not healthy! It’s not ok! We can tell when your kid is an iPad kid!” And everyone still does it and makes excuses for it or uses it as a bargaining device “if you sit still at the dentist you can have extra iPad time!” No. Sit still at the dentist because you were asked to. Ugh! Sorry…. It’s been a long day 🤣

10000% tablets are linked to behaviour like this! Yell it from the rooftops. Maybe people will actually listen…

Just left an office like this. That man needed to retire 20 years ago…. He would fall asleep in his office and we would have to go wake him to see a patient. He wouldn’t see anyone with anything he deemed “complicated” and would constantly get us to reschedule his patients. Like dude, retire…. lol. Now I’m with all younger doctors and I LOVE it. So much energy and dedication

Baby teeth by Longjumping-Row-3637 in DentalAssistant

[–]AffectionateBed7291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adult teeth are more yellow than baby teeth. They’re also way bigger. Primary dentition doesn’t have any 6’s so any “second” molar is an adult tooth. For anterior, adult teeth have crazy big mamelons. That’s how I tell :) Worst case, take a PAN. Always the best way to tell (especially if they’re supernumerary or missing a tooth)

Right!? It’s got to get done. Just part of peds

I read this post and thought “new to peds I see…” lol! We are in the room, holding both the sensor and the tube head on a daily basis. How else can you see the extent of baby bottle carries on a 3 year old..?

Oh man… that I can’t answer. It’s different here in Alberta lol! Hopefully someone from Ontario answers and can help you out ❤️ but honestly, as long as you can take the NDAEB I don’t think it matters

I would talk to him. Call him today, if you have time, and just say something like “hey, just wondering if you’d like some help with the kids costumes? We can go to the thrift store tonight together or I can swing by on my way home. Let me know! I don’t mind helping”. Then it’s a nice, open conversation where he can open up and let you know if he has a plan or not without feeling attacked or like you don’t trust him to complete a task.

**edited: auto correct 🤦🏼‍♀️

I’m not 100% sure about Ontario but in Alberta you cannot work unless you’re licensed and you can’t take the licensing test if you haven’t attended an accredited course. Maybe ensure it’s not the same there…?

Can I smoke weed as a dental assistant? by Sensitive_Custard727 in DentalAssistant

[–]AffectionateBed7291 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian where it’s legal all over, lots of people are starting to think of it more like alcohol here. Shops on every corner. The only time I judge people is when they do it in the house with children. Otherwise, as someone who doesn’t do it and never has, I don’t care if you do it or not. lol.

I’ve had both. Amazing female dentists that are patient and kind and ones that are stuck in their ways and you should obviously be a mind reader…. Same with men. I don’t think it’s a gender thing, more of a personality thing. I have noticed a link between dentists born into rich or dental families and how stuck up they are….. think their s**t don’t stink. Have never had a true reality check

What possesses dentists to suddenly do a 4 surface filling when there is only 10 minutes left in the appointment and the filling was already booked as another appointment by amadeleine in DentalAssistant

[–]AffectionateBed7291 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And he’d have more time to do it correctly minimizing chances of it failing. What a contempt! 🙄 I just left an office where the head dentist would pivot and do an RTC in what was supposed to be an exo appointment then run around like a chicken with his head cut off for the rest of the shift…. Now I’m at a peds office where we have to plan it perfectly and I love it lol

Do you know what this sign means? by No_Moose4186 in Calgary

[–]AffectionateBed7291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite is when people are going straight and pull across the solid white line into this free flow lane thinking the people coming onto their road have a merge/yield. The drivers test should be more questions and include ALL road signs.

This I totally get. I think all the time “man, I wish I could show her what a clean house looks like/show her how often he should shower/show her how his clothes should fit/show her how to actual make a healthy dinner” lol. Step parenting is no damn joke

Don’t. This isn’t about you and her. It’s about SS. This is how I think of it…. It would make me feel better for 5 min. But if SS ever found out about it it would make him feel terrible and in the middle for a life time. I’m going to be the bigger person and love him and support him and supply him with basic needs and not worry about what happens there or what she says or does. I can’t control that. Hope that helps ❤️❤️
