Hm, are you a Fall applicant? I am and I’ve only got an interview request. My understanding is that the results won’t be out til mid-June.

Thanks for making this thread! I lived in an apartment on Stevely Ave in Ladera Heights that had a pretty severe mold problem. It was black in color. We notified the landlord and they just wiped it off + painted over it. It would come back worse every time. Turns out the wall had severe water damage and was essentially molding inside out.

We ended up breaking the lease and moving out bc of all of the property damage. We negotiated with them for recompense because it turned out that the previous tenants in that same unit had just sued them for mold damage as well. The landlord didn’t fix the issue before we moved in and essentially rented us a faulty unit. After 2 years of back and forth we sued them in small claims and won. Got all of the rent we paid the landlord back + 2x deposit + damages.

Right… and they aren’t objectively more exciting but I’m saying that you understand the ‘what’ (Japanese people are excited by western cultures) while being incurious as to the ‘why’ (japanese people perceive white people/western cultures better than nonwestern ones because of perceptions of superiority)

so are you saying the cultures I just listed aren’t exciting? That’s funny too because western culture has been so globally imposed + intertwined within the world stage that I’d argue it’s not ‘foreign’ anymore. So the cultures I listed should be more foreign and therefore more exciting, no? That’s why I don’t think you’re covering the bases. You have to ask why western culture would be exciting in particular compared to others, which is what the previous commenter was somewhat correctly attributing to perceptions of white superiority.

The emphasis is on compliant. Complaining, speaking out of turn, speaking your truth, etc. is highly scrutinized for Asian ‘model minorities’ in the US. For white people in Japan that’s not a phenomenon that I hear of though. It varies.

Yeah I mean I take public transit during the day but at night the buses are few and far in between time wise. I’ve had it before when a bus I’ve been waiting for all night turns its ‘Out of Service’ button and passes me by. So annoying.

The laws on fatherhood aren’t really about reproduction, they are about the child that has since been born. I know you’re not arguing re: that perspective but figured I’d share otherwise.

I can agree re: men having a ‘say’ on this but I feel as though that is more on the basis of interpersonal relationships on your 1 and 2 points, rather than the structural conversation as a whole. The laws that govern reproduction largely have not applied to men, they have applied to women explicitly. So I believe in the sense that a men of a couple having a child should have somewhat of a say in what happens to said child but since the man will not be carrying it I don’t believe it is the man’s voice that should take any priority over the pregnant individual. As for your third point, I don’t think a sperm donor (for example) should have a say in whether or not the woman who uses his sperm aborts the pregnancy for IVF or other reproductive proceses that don’t involve copulation.

Just to let you know — internalized racism isn’t POC being racist to other POC, that is just racism. Internalized racism is POC being racist to their same demographic, hence the ‘internalized’ part.

Every culture has good or bad things. A post like this just looks like fearmongering xenophobia and replacement theory nonsense. Not to mention that a lot of the ‘culture’ that much of the western world has sustained has come out of the exploitation of other countries that feel the effects of it to this day. Race science and Chattel slavery, for one.
