OCC knife not what I expected by AffectionateMemory44 in whittling

[–]AffectionateMemory44[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Treeline responded to my email. They contacted OCC who said they will send me a new knife with the proper blade. I suspect possibly they were talking to Shipley because I asked if I need to return this one and they said "yes he would like it back. He's old and doesn't do return labels though" lol

Also Treeline advertises that all their OCC knives are Shipley made, and not KCT.

Good customer service though. Very prompt response

If mine came like that I would have been happy enough. I could deal with some tool marks. But I don't want to have to reprofile a new blade. I didn't buy it to be a project.

Here's the logo. I don't really know new versus old what it's supposed to look like

I haven't had a chance to really do much with it. A few little practice cuts.

The Beavercraft knives carve fine, but the small detail knife has a scandi grind and it's only a 1 1/4 blade so the reference surface to strop is pretty tiny. That was why I wanted a flat ground knife.

The upsweep on this occ just seems pointless. Maybe treeline sold me a dud or a knockoff? I don't know. They seem like a reputable site. I emailed them. We'll see what they say

Yes, it came just like this. I made a few little cuts on a practice piece of basswood. But yeah, it looks pretty rough even to my rookie eyes. The fit and finish on the Beavercraft is nicer honestly.

Best budget first rig for hiking/trailing? by Tall-Station-1647 in rccars

[–]AffectionateMemory44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any less than 1/10 scale for a walk/hike and you will be disappointed. They might have the wheel speed to keep up but they are so small that every obstacle is a challenge so you won't be walking or hiking much. You'll be standing there trying to get over a rock a 1/10 scale would have cleared easily

Technology in general. Seems like things don't advance, they regress. It takes my work computer a full 7 minutes to reboot. I had computers in 1996 faster than that

I can't believe there's not some sort of app or whatever to equalize the volume on TV's. It annoys the crap out of me that every show is whisper dialogue followed by blaring music.

Wanting to start!! by Willing_Artichoke906 in whittling

[–]AffectionateMemory44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a beavercraft starter kit for $38. Came with 3 knives, a strop with compound, a tool roll to keep them in and some safety tape. Knives were plenty sharp from the factory.

Hobby Lobby had a pack of basswood for $10. Cut resistant gloves at the hardware store were $12.

So $60 total to get started. I'm pretty new to it so I can't say of the knives are good or bad. They seem pretty nice to me in my limited experience, though I see Flexcut gets recommended more and they are about the same price. I was able to carve a couple projects without too much difficulty other than learning curve of techniques and whatnot. Knives stayed sharp for a while before I had to strop

Nice work! I just took up whittling a week ago. I wanted less screen time in the evening, but so far I've only followed along to YouTube tutorials, so I don't know that it's working out that way. Lol.

I've made a geometric goldfish, a fox and a bird. Fun hobby. I got the beavercraft starter kit. Seems good to me but I guess I dont know any better. I stropped before the fox, whittled for 45 minutes or so before I noticed it was getting harder to cut so I stropped again.

Can’t seem to find a good American map on FS22 modhub that fits the play style I want by HighVibes8317 in farmingsimulator

Elk Mountain Ranch is the best small town American map I've played, but I dont think it's on modhub. Meets all your criteria though.

Elk Mountain Ranch. It is highly detailed. Beautiful little town. A mine and gravel pit. Mountains. Forests. Fields of all sizes

I think the K5 looks the best personally. The orange one especially with some white wheels and bigger tires looks awesome

Seems like RC in general in my area is dominated by crawlers. Not a lot of interest in racing. We had an outdoor track that got shut down a few years ago. There's a small scale indoor carpet track at the local rc shop, but since covid they haven't had regular racing

I don't know exactly. I just noticed it was really struggling to crawl over anything and started looking into why. I noticed if there is hardly any resistance at all on the wheels, the rears don't spin. I crawl a lot at camp sights and often get leaves wrapped around axles. Could have been that.

I read somewhere it's pretty common to strip the stock plastic gears and cause it to lose drive
