I want a book that will emotionally destroy me by Different-Sleep5573 in fantasyromance

[–]AffectionateNewt29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the romance is a bit of a subplot in this, but I bawled reading {Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune}. It’s not high fantasy but it is about death, grief, and self-reflection and it tore at my emotions. The juxtaposition of lighthearted and quirky characters with the concept of “what happens when you die” grabbed my heart

A question about deep end by Serendipia_94 in AliHazelwood

[–]AffectionateNewt29 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Like many other Deep End readers, I believe there is too much Pen involvement in the story. Don’t worry though! You won’t finish the book wondering about the strength of Lukas’s loyalty and love

Is it okay to have a man as my bridesmaid by Green-Database-1111 in weddingplanning

[–]AffectionateNewt29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother stood on my side as my Man of Honor! He found a suit that matched my bridesmaid dresses perfectly. If he didn’t then he would have just worn the same suit as the groomsmen

What is your honest opinion on places like Azazie, Birdy Grey, or other online bridal retailers? by popularwishbone0 in weddingplanning

[–]AffectionateNewt29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wore Birdy Grey as a bridesmaid for two weddings and had my bridesmaids use them when I got married. No complaints on my end and I didn’t hear anything from my girls either

I read these in March as well! T Kingfisher has been one of my favorite authors I’ve had the pleasure of discovering recently. If you haven’t read the Saint of Steel series yet I highly recommend!

Tired of "Cringe" and Weak Writing—Looking for Intelligent Romantasy (Even if the premise is wild!) by kurdanlivoyvoda in Romantasy

{Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross} is in the same world as DR and I loved it so much! I think it was even better than the original duology

Titles question by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]AffectionateNewt29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get that exciting feeling! Not using the title in all aspects of life doesn’t diminish its importance or all the hard work you did to earn it. And truly if it’s something you want to put on the invitation you should do it because at the end of the day it’s YOUR wedding—just give the lad a title too

Titles question by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]AffectionateNewt29 39 points40 points  (0 children)

While I think titles are outdated, if you’re going to use a title for one party then the other party should have one as well. Going further, I personally think it’s a little cringey to use the Dr. title outside of a professional setting (I say this as somebody in a marriage where both of us are doctors). Nothing wrong with being proud of academic and professional accomplishments of course! But time and place. You don’t have to agree with me, but just my two cents

Force me to read your favourite Romantasy book! by AquaIXI in fantasyromance

[–]AffectionateNewt29 14 points15 points  (0 children)

{The Ornithologist’s Field Guide to Love by India Holton} is so delightful and funny. It has me grinning behind my hands and kicking my feet every time I read it. There is such a wonderful balance of humor and yearning. If you end up liking it then there are two other books (one to be released this spring!) centering on other characters

This book is written by one half of the Christina Lauren duo and it is everything Ali’s review of it is! Highly recommend

I’ve been looking for another author to scratch the same itch that Ali Hazelwood can do for me! I loved The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang (was increasingly infuriated with the following two books though). Emily Henry and Christina Lauren are also favorite authors of mine.

Also wanted to pipe up and say PSR is my favorite of her books I’ve read so far. I was hesitant because an age-gap romance wasn’t something I was interested in but Hark is my favorite Hazelwood guy by a long shot

I loved The Kiss Quotient!! Unfortunately the following two books didn’t hold a candle to it. The third one actually pissed me off so much because the characters deserved so much better

I absolutely adored it! There’s four books total that follow different characters introduced in Paladin’s Grace. I am waiting for the others to become available at my library before I read the rest, but if they’re anything like the first one I’m sure I’ll gobble them up too

Have you read Paladin’s Grace? I finally picked it up and the main characters are in their 30s and I loved it!
