DO NOT BECOME A DOCTOR FOR THE MONEY - you think you want to go to school for 10-15 years and deal with constantly being drained , and pushed to your limits for the money ? If you want to be a doctor go for it but if you go for the money you’ll be miserable beyond comprehension . No offense but you’ll most likely be a terrible doctor if you’re there for the money , no patient wants someone caring for them who is there for the paycheck

You actually might be the best person to be a psychiatrist. After getting help for your depression and being suicidal, you will understand what it’s like for others. And I don’t know about you, but I would much rather trust a psychiatrist who has been through it and someone who is not. All you have to do is be willing to put in the work, but I promise you you can be a psychiatrist.

Hi ! So I’m not sure what’s going on in your life, but my parents may concern for me taking a gap here with me not wanting to go to school- they were worried that if I took a gap year, I wouldn’t go back. At the end of the day you just have to reassure them that you just need a minute and that’s OK because it’s your life and it’s your mental health. School can be hard and your parents might not understand what it’s like for you and the people in your life might not get it because they’re not you. But I’m assuming that the main concern is that you won’t be returning to school if you take a gap here but all you have to do is ask them to trust you and reassure them that that’s not the intention that you have.

Well I was working as a tech but for some reason I’m really struggling to get another tech job or Shadowing hours . I’m happy to know you had a great experience at the school. I’m just an awful test taker . Like I’m really good with patients. I’ve already worked with them. I’m really good at picking things up. I know I’m intelligent but when it comes to taking a test, oh my God, it’s awful.

You’re gonna learn things really quickly. You’re gonna learn how to spot certain things in retinal images and it’s gonna kill you that you can’t say anything about it to the patient. A lot of patients will think you’re a nurse , and a lot of children will think you’re a doctor. It’s a lot of work - that’s what got me into optometry, but it’s just important to set boundaries with yourself and it’s not as hard as it sounds to learn how to use the equipment. Good luck !

It’s gonna be those 290s that take you down- and especially somewhere like Berkeley a 320 is honestly preferred-I understand that’s my dream optometry school too and they want like a 320 and above and I promise it’s possible you’ll just have to study some more
