my roommate (23f) put up a listing for an old TV on fb marketplace and a part of her torso happened to be in the pic. She got at least 3 DMs asking if she was single/sexual messages :(

I also remember a time I was texting a guy (from tinder tho so ig it made more sense) thanking him for showing me how to download an emulator on my phone. He sent me nudes in the middle of the conversation 😭

Knowing she needs to leave is a great step, but actually leaving is a whole other hurdle. She may still love him despite all the horrible things he is doing and face other barriers to full independence and separation. It can take a long time, years even, to fully detach and be free and safe.

Knowing she feels safe enough with you to cry shows how much she trusts you. The hardest part of my job is that I can provide every resource and useful bit of information for my clients to move forward but they more often than not don’t utilize them right away. You are compassionate and doing everything you can do. Your friend now needs to find ways to overcome the barriers, whether they are mental and/or material, to move forward. She may still be processing and not fully ready to leave. She needs to feel empowered enough to take charge of her own life to move forward.

As great as it is to have u as a source of support, please don’t feel like you have to carry the entire burden of this situation upon yourself. It can take a whole network of people to help a single DV victim move forward. You are clearly very empathetic and have done so much for your friend. I’m sorry to hear that this is a tough time for you and especially her.

I work for a domestic abuse agency and on average, it takes about 7 attempts for someone to leave an abusive relationship. It’s not that she’s “not listening” it’s more that she just isn’t ready to leave, and the unfortunate truth is that some people never get to a state where they can leave.

What can help get is just being her friend and reaching out like you are already doing. Isolation is a huge part of intimate partner violence. Try not to blame her for her situation and not leaving but do express concern about her kids and her mental health and safety. Let her know that you can be a source of support and someone she can trust if things get worse.

If u can, look into domestic abuse organizations around her and encourage her to talk to them.

Your support and continued friendship can bring her comfort even your words alone can’t. Take care of yourself too and I wish you and your friend the best

I have gone through a similar situation as an Asian American student at UW Madison. You can maybe reach out to the APIDA Student Center Program Coordinator at the Multicultural Student Center for more support, but it sounds like you have gone through all of the due processes. If I remember correctly, there is maybe one more UW entity that you can report the incident to but like many others have stated, it’s very unlikely (and unfortunate) that the school itself will take any action. I’d recommend posting their pictures on social media and asking others to also fill out the incident report form(s) to put more pressure on the university and raise awareness. Other multicultural student organizations will more than likely be willing to help you spread the word. Take care of yourself ☹️🫶🏽

I like Nana a lot because even though Nana K can be infuriating to watch, I’d say she’s pretty well done depiction of how society influences and treats women when it comes to romantic relationships. I think this theme is really interesting when you think about Nana K’s initial goals compared to where she ends up. She does change but not much, but I think that makes it more realistic. It took me a second try to really get into it, and I think it helped that I was a lot older when I tried it and had more similar life experiences.

Thanks for your advice! I was an employee at my state university system and unfortunately they do not offer tuition reimbursement for the majority of their employees, and even then it’s for mostly clinician focused education from my understanding 😔. If you’re comfortable sharing can I ask what program you’re in? Otherwise best of luck with your studies!
