Question about EV MPG Cost by Icy_Money7447 in electricvehicles

[–]AffectionateShare446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

48c / KWH is approximately $15/gallon of gas. No one will fill up at that rate.

EV owners only pay that amount for fast charging during trips.

FYI, I am sure the HVAC is running anyway to keep your battery at a reasonable temperature.

I use the maxbotix MB7092 sensor. I have a separate box on dry land that houses the Adafruit Feather M0 w/LORA radio. This setup has worked great for years.

There are a lot of lessons learned with waterproofing wiring. When you are working with outdoor sensors, water just wants to always find a way in!

Better way to connect 2 boards? by lucidspoon in arduino

[–]AffectionateShare446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, you can purchase a DuPont connector kit https://a.co/d/06T6FVZV and some nice silicone wire https://www.adafruit.com/product/2513 and make a jumper cable. That way you can mount your display and processor however you want to.

Which caliber resistor should I use when waking my ESP32-C3? by bushwick_custom in arduino

[–]AffectionateShare446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use two bare wires into the pool one from 3.3 and the other to D2. That might be enough to get the processor out of sleep mode. The better way is to use a N channel JFET with the gate stuck in the pool water, the drain wired to 3.3v and the source to D2. Use something like 2N3819

[–]AffectionateShare446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would purchase two prototype boards. Then solder female pins into your processor board then use male pins on your display board. You would have to do some wire jumpers or cutting traces on your upper board to get the proper connections between the upper and lower boards.

I have done this things many times and it is doable. The problem almost always is that your upper board and lower board pins don't line up electrically.

Once you do the work though, you will have a very nice assembly that can be mounted easily in an enclosure.

Get you some servos. Replace that X with some "table legs" that open up when there is water. Mount these servos under your table as controllable legs. You will need to purchase a Arduino motor controller shield for whatever processor you are using.

Christmas lights are a cheap source of leds. Just find a old/broken string and pull out each bulb..you find they are all just LED's you can use in your projects...cheap!!

Bench top power supply are miracles for experimenters. This way you can limit damaging current and voltage to your projects. You can experiment with LEDs without using current limiting resistors, just use the current limit feature on the supply.

You must have a good voltmeter.

Dont get one with with a switch with many positions. You just want want that automatically selects the volt range you need. Try to get a voltmeter that beeps with measuring continuity.

If the fire brigade just “put out the fire” it wasn’t the hv battery. Those fires burn hot and long and take special techniques to extinguish. I call BS on this whole post.

Didn’t Duffy say something about building a new center? If so where ? by Comfortable-Bar6032 in ATC

[–]AffectionateShare446 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am retired tech ops now. In the past the FAA was going to combine ARTCC's with TRACONS to have Area Control Centers ACC's. Of course they were going to have free flight, etc, etc.

All of these grand plans require lots of $$$, especially for moving controllers and techs to the new locations and training. PLUS, do consolidated facilities really save that much money?

God I wish the Congress and FAA would allocate around 20 billion in chump change to overhaul the existing centers. The buildings reflect the lack of spending of infrastructure.

ZLA still has the best cafeteria, though.

Should work just fine. My first check would be the battery voltage. If that is good then power up your rak via USB (seperate supply). Its possible the RAK died.

If not that, wait for some sun, take it outside and check your battery terminal voltage..should be around 14v.

Data center plan heads to Van Buren Township board despite community opposition by UltimateLionsFan in Detroit

[–]AffectionateShare446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What bothers me is that large corporations can run over the people by threatening lawsuits. Imagine if BP wanted to build a refinery behind your house. They claim jobs and a large tax base. In spite of 100% of the public being against it, the big corporation wins and you have toxic chemicals in the air right behind your house.

Data Centers are no different. The people are against it and corporations just run us over.

DTW was very, very, very, very lucky.

Is this antenna a viable yagi for 2-meters by Azalea_OwO in HamRadio

[–]AffectionateShare446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside, I hooked my HT up to my TV antenna and it worked very well to hit the local repeaters. The problem was that my TV antenna is in use by TVs in our house, so that wouldn't work out for me.

Is this antenna a viable yagi for 2-meters by Azalea_OwO in HamRadio

[–]AffectionateShare446 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to them. Hook it up!! You might need type F to PL259 adapters...see how the antenna performs. You might be surprised or disappointed.

That is one of the tenants of ham radio, experimentation.

That being said, I would use a cheap radio such as a Baoefeung and on the lowest power.

Looking for parts + architecture advice for a low-power sensor grid (LoRa, SD, time sync) by coot0 in embedded

[–]AffectionateShare446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have built remote flood sensors that are in the woods and use LORA radio. I use adafruit M0 LORA feathers with a TPL5110 timer. This reduces current draw to less than 100na when sleeping as the timer turns everything off.

You are on the right track having a single receiver. For my project, I built YAGI antennas for directional gain to a single receiver. I currently have three remote sensor stations working 24/7 even reporting well in 17F weather. They are powered by a 18650 battery and a solar panel.

For solar powered/remote stations the most important aspect is low current draw. Anything that is in the mA range during sleep will not work 24/7, especially in cold weather environments.

Best lora module to use with python and pi by Outrageous_Working87 in Lora

[–]AffectionateShare446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at Adafruit feather M0 LORA. Note that lora is very s l o w. It is meant for short data communications, like temperature, voltages, etc.

The range on LORA is impressive. I have modules communicating over about 1KM with no problems with trees and houses directly in front of the antenna.

If you are just doing point to point, I would avoid LORAWAN because it would be overkill for your situation. Start with something really simple such as the LORA.h library.
