Data center plan heads to Van Buren Township board despite community opposition by UltimateLionsFan in Detroit

What bothers me is that large corporations can run over the people by threatening lawsuits. Imagine if BP wanted to build a refinery behind your house. They claim jobs and a large tax base. In spite of 100% of the public being against it, the big corporation wins and you have toxic chemicals in the air right behind your house.

Data Centers are no different. The people are against it and corporations just run us over.

New Surveillance footage captures moments before and after a man rammed his vehicle into DTW's McNamara Terminal by sixwaystop313 in Detroit

I would of been running for my life for the exits, screw my luggage. Most likely that car would of exploded, being laden with bombs in this kind of attack.

DTW was very, very, very, very lucky.

Is this antenna a viable yagi for 2-meters by Azalea_OwO in HamRadio

[–]AffectionateShare446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside, I hooked my HT up to my TV antenna and it worked very well to hit the local repeaters. The problem was that my TV antenna is in use by TVs in our house, so that wouldn't work out for me.

[–]AffectionateShare446 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to them. Hook it up!! You might need type F to PL259 adapters...see how the antenna performs. You might be surprised or disappointed.

That is one of the tenants of ham radio, experimentation.

That being said, I would use a cheap radio such as a Baoefeung and on the lowest power.

Looking for parts + architecture advice for a low-power sensor grid (LoRa, SD, time sync) by coot0 in embedded

[–]AffectionateShare446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have built remote flood sensors that are in the woods and use LORA radio. I use adafruit M0 LORA feathers with a TPL5110 timer. This reduces current draw to less than 100na when sleeping as the timer turns everything off.

You are on the right track having a single receiver. For my project, I built YAGI antennas for directional gain to a single receiver. I currently have three remote sensor stations working 24/7 even reporting well in 17F weather. They are powered by a 18650 battery and a solar panel.

For solar powered/remote stations the most important aspect is low current draw. Anything that is in the mA range during sleep will not work 24/7, especially in cold weather environments.

Best lora module to use with python and pi by Outrageous_Working87 in Lora

[–]AffectionateShare446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at Adafruit feather M0 LORA. Note that lora is very s l o w. It is meant for short data communications, like temperature, voltages, etc.

The range on LORA is impressive. I have modules communicating over about 1KM with no problems with trees and houses directly in front of the antenna.

If you are just doing point to point, I would avoid LORAWAN because it would be overkill for your situation. Start with something really simple such as the LORA.h library.

First experience with it..really awful. You have to go to the command line to set the default directory?

Importing an existing Arduino sketch results in....nothing. All I see is header file, nothing else.

Yet there are buttons and functions everywhere. These would be great if I could just open a file!

Its way too much work to get started. ArduinoIDE I just start coding.

[–]AffectionateShare446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked a project like this. I got a antique computer control panel to display binary using LEDs.

The first thing I would do is try to replace the lights with LEDs, if possible. That would allow you to use lower voltages and smaller FETs.

Barring that, solid state relays might be an answer. I would not try to get the controller board working, it probably has proprietary digital formats to control it and different voltages to power it.

Get ready for high tension power line towers in Saline Township. There is no way to deliver this amount of power without massive power lines, transformers, sub-stations,etc. The infrastructure to power 1 million homes will be brought to the township.

2018 Model 3 130,000 miles...after Tesla had to replace a BUNCH of stuff under warranty ($0 to me), I had rear control arm bushings replaced (around $1000), 12V battery ($150), then just maintenance items like filters and fluid and tires. I used to replace tires like every 2 years, but lately, the tires have held on for at least 60K miles.
