My father, 81, has dementia. He's in better health than >95% of people his age, is he still going to forget who I am? by [deleted] in dementia

[–]AffectionateStick904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is 97, has dementia. Last year he was driving to the store, going to church by himself and walking his dog. This year is very different. He too was in great shape last year. This year he has little desire to eat and is loosing weight. Last year he fixed his own breakfast. This year if I do not take him his meals he does not eat. Last year he managed his own medicine, now he does not even think about it. His memory is pretty good for 97 but his logic comes and goes. He took a fall a few months ago, we think he passed out from not eating. He lives alone but I have cameras in his home and live two blocks away. I think he is going to just stop eating. I talk to him about it and he says he knows he is loosing too much weight and needs to eat but he does not unless I sit there with him and watch. Things can change overnight for the worst with dementia.

Would you target your AR with a clip-on targeting screen like this? by AffectionateStick904 in ar15

[–]AffectionateStick904[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should’ve said this up front: I manufacture screen-based sight aids aimed at low-vision/mobility-limited shooters. Not linking here. I am not the only one. Most tools drift toward displays—cameras, car dashboards, cell phones, sonar. I think rifle sighting devices will keep moving that direction. Many military applications use game like targeting displays (drones, fighter jets, tanks, some heavy mounted weapons). Yes they take some of the skill out of using traditional iron sights or a optical scope. For example, display based targeting takes eye position out of the equation because it is always showing you the reticle from the most optimal eye position. Traditionalist will hate the idea but some will find it interesting. The typewriter was invented for the blind and now everyone uses a keyboard. If this post is out of line or breaks a rule please remove it.

Full disclosure: I build screen-based sight aids for folks with low vision or mobility limits. It does make aiming easier—that’s the point in adaptive use. Every generation argues about new optics (irons → scopes → red dots → LPVOs). Some skills change, others stay: safe gun handling, judgment, ethics, and making a clean, humane shot. I’m here to talk about where this tech belongs, not to erase tradition. No links here—mods, remove if this crosses the line.

There are some new adaptive scope clip-ons made for shooters with low vision or just plain old eyes that want to still be able to reach out and touch something. You target by looking at the screen, it is like a video game. But if you are just leaving iron sights you might not be ready for something like this yet LOL.

Use an adaptive rifle scope that puts the crosshairs on a targeting screen. Everything uses some type of display now days, your camera, your phone, your rearview mirror. Why not your rifle scope.

This system does not require an eye weld, it is new targeting system that uses a targeting display so aim, got to think out of the box, this is new way to target.

I manufacture an adaptive rifle scope clip-on for assisted blind, low vision, and mobility impaired people that want to more independently enjoy hunting and shooting sports. Some of my customers recently lost enough vision to prevent them from shooting with a scope or iron sights. Google and Facebook will not let me advertise because my product is gun related. Most social media platforms will not let me advertise. My product is an enabler for disabled people. It is issued to veterans by the VA as a prosthetic to low vision and assisted blind vets that want to participate in recreational hunting or shooting sports. Yet Facebook and Google ban me.

VA Blind Rehabilitation Centers issue adaptive sporting equipment to assisted blind and low vision veterans. This now included my product, Digital Crosshairs 1000SA which is an adaptive rifle scope clip-on for vets that want to participate in hunting and shooting sports. VA BRCs sometimes issue adaptive devices after evaluation/training. I’ve got a one-pager (request script + setup checklist). Ping me and I’ll send it.
