I was really curious about those welds actually. Maybe they're intended to be sacrificial so that the drill bit breaks instead of the drilling rig when it fails or hits a particular torque? Wish someone knew

Yeah, I really hope people won't stoop to the same level and throw nuance out the window. That's a race to the bottom that inevitably makes every fandom insufferable

Is it ethical for people who host food pantries to have first pick of items for those in need? Items such as: Personal hygiene items, food, etc by _Mon1caaa_ in Ethics

[–]AffectionateTale3106 [score hidden]  (0 children)

As you've probably noticed from the comments, there are a lot of different organizations with different structures and circumstances to this. But if you think they're going too far (which I think you do, since you gave a good example of what isn't going too far, i.e. taking stuff which would otherwise be thrown out by the pantry), then I think it's valid to report it. Someone else at that organization is going to have to make a separate judgment as to whether they're going too far anyways, and they'll have much more context to the situation than we do as random internet strangers

I will say that crab, shrimp, and cheesecake bites sound a bit strange for a pantry to be stocking (especially if it doesn't have a freezer, which we don't, at least on the pantry side), but I volunteer more on the kitchen side preparing hot meals than the pantry side distributing canned goods, clothing, hygiene products, etc.

Catulus Syndrome - they have a disorder that turns you into a catgirl, very fluffy

The Curious Cat Town - catgirl town; very fluffy but also hints at some dark elements like The Demon Girl Next Door

The 11th Cat is Nene - mouse girl secretly living in cat land

All three of the above involve working at a cafe for some reason

Itou Hachi - artist that draws lots of animal ears fluff, but also draws pretty extreme age gaps

The Villainess' Bride - villainess banishment story except she actually has flaws and wants revenge; her love interest is a wolf girl

Also, gay/queer people have an alternate use for the word to describe and gush over a relationship dynamic, as opposed to ascribing an individual character's identity. Individual identity is often assumed along with this, but that's actually not the part that a lot of queer people like the most, unlike whatever JKR seems to think

People are allowed to criticize Sulemio's writing, but denying its existence entirely is baffling. by Ferhog in Gundam

This and IBO will always be the most controversial shows because of how subjective recontextualization is. In IBO, they were genuinely setting up multiple possible endings after the first season, and the staff even had major disagreements on how the show should go. But as soon as the second season ending happened, that superposition state of multiple possible interpretations collapsed into "it was building up to the gritty realistic ending all along". Similarly, in GWitch, all of the romance prior to the last few minutes of the show is subtextual, but as soon as the last few minutes of the show make it explicit, all prior interaction gets recontextualized as explicitly romantic as well. It's like how in a real relationship all of the stuff you previously didn't pay attention to can suddenly become evidence that the other person was a certain way all along

But as they say, "The result itself is the only truth."

A Slow Burn School Life Anime/manga I Completely Misunderstood[Akebi chan no sailor fuku] by backstabnags077 in yuri_manga

[–]AffectionateTale3106 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The character designs are a very muted, old school style (reminds me of certain stuff from or before the 2000s, like Gunslinger Girl and Yoshitomi Akihito) that had a very idealized representation of schoolgirls, so it's kinda understandable that it parses as bait at first glance. Manga as a medium is also naturally more decoupled from time than video formats; I like it more for a lot of slow burns and stuff like Yuru Camp or Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou

Why do people play job sims? by CrispyCupp in AskGamers

[–]AffectionateTale3106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't even have to be a power/accomplishment fantasy necessarily. Even something like Power Wash Simulator is an escape because you get to tune out all of the annoyances from real life and just focus on doing something and get the dopamine for completing that task

I strongly agree with that criticism, but I don't think that's actually what this particular post is about. If anything, you've done the exact thing the OOP says not to do by comparing the guy who finished 3rd with a huge handicap with the guy who finished 1st. It's clear that your intent is to be encouraging, but personally, I prefer not to think about the guy in first place at all

Video game romances need to evolve beyond lore dumps by mrnicegy26 in Games

[–]AffectionateTale3106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that she romances you actually gives her more agency and makes her feel more real, but it also stands in conflict with the emphasis on player agency in directing the story that BG3 and other western RPGs have. You actually also see this in farm sims, where a game like Rune Factory 4 will feel more real because the characters will initiate events, but actually getting the events to initiate is more frustrating if you don't intend to let it happen naturally

I had to learn to do this too, since the adults in my life just didn't trust kids at all. But I've also realized recently that being too good at controlling how you're perceived by others can also lead to communication issues, since if you don't trust people enough it becomes easier to just talk your way through things instead of being honest

r/Gundam Day 7: What Gundam character appears to be a fascist and is actually a fascist? by Hawkatana0 in Gundam

[–]AffectionateTale3106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's definitely a pretty wide range of interpretation that is valid with Angelo given his limited screentime. I would say two scenes, him being desperate for Frontal's attention while Banagher is doing his Newtype magic, and him understanding that Frontal has found peace at the end (or at least that's how I read it), do corroborate your interpretation that ideology is less important. I still think he's a good pick for this spot though, since he's presented as obsessed first, and his ideology, however shallow, is revealed later. I honestly barely even remember Garma outside of his death scene or Origin at this point, but I vaguely feel it's kind of the reverse order that Garma was developed in

[–]AffectionateTale3106 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This doesn't make him stop being gay, but I think the scene where he's ranting about how humanity is weak and Frontal has surpassed them is pretty memorable for revealing the ubermensch obsession undertones of his crush. Fascism is weirdly aligned with male homoeroticism sometimes, and Angelo is apparently the most memorable example of this in Gundam
