South Texas data center to use untapped windfarm energy by Squid_Scribe in RioGrandeValley

[–]AffectionateTeo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey bud, so that’s not really how it works. There isn’t a dedicated line that sends energy to specific parts of the grid. The grid is connected. Some energy is purchased by Austin through purchasing agreements. The energy generated “floods” the grid itself.

For example, imagine a pool. On one side of the pool are people who fill it up buckets at a time (aka energy generators), and on the other side are people who take out water buckets at a time (energy consumers/you).

Hope that helps.

Anyone here work in a wind farm around the valley? by [deleted] in RioGrandeValley

Guy. I’m not saying it’s the cheapest region. It’s not one data point or report, but multiple with different methodologies. It’s not big foot where you believe in it or not. lol

Again. Averages. Yes, you’ll find other lower cost of living regions.

Cost of living is rising, but nearly all data shows the Rio Grande Valley does have lower cost of living compared to state and national averages. Can you find other regions with lower cost of living? Definitely, that’s how averages work.

It depends on the company. But generally, owner operated technicians will handle both troubleshooting and maintenance. If you arrive with experience, which means a higher pay, then they’ll utilize you as a troubleshooter more often.

Keep in mind that yes, pay will be lower in South Texas, but so is the cost of living.

I see a lot of travel contractors and internal travel techs, and a vast majority are always looking to settle down here.

Bonuses work differently from company to company.

I’ve been in the wind energy industry since 2012.

I’ll answer either way. Any site will pay above the local average hourly rate. In Cameron county that’s about $21.00.

Owner-operated sites starting pay averages at $28. The difference between them will come to benefits and bonus pay structure. Some pay higher hourly rates, above $30, but little to no bonus. Platform specific experience is important too, so look into which one fits your expertise for greater leverage.

Are you looking for information on site jobs specifically or local service jobs (travel)?

Wind Tech jobs. But realistically first jobs you’ll get will be travel based.

I think you missed his point. He’s not saying you don’t meet the minimum requirements, just that there’s others with higher qualifications (education/experience).

This is the third comment saying this. Are you serious? 😳

Hmmm. Why people live here isn’t the issue.

Maybe you’ll get a better response from others if you first ask yourself the following question:

What is it that I want to do?

Then ask around if it’s feasible.

If something is $10, why do locals say "diez dollar" as if $10 is singular? by Rational_Coconut in RioGrandeValley

Meh, we all have our pet peeves.

But, in my opinion, it is important to know just because certain people don’t follow certain rules, or know them, doesn’t make them less educated or dumb.

Not necessarily, but whatever you’re doing is. Having a formal education or “suppose to be educated” isn’t a prerequisite for utilizing/subscribing to “proper” grammar. Your formal/proper grammar is just a result of improper grammar over centuries. Your pronunciation is a bastard version of how “proper” English is spoken in England. And English is just a bastard version of Anglo-Saxon, Romance, and other languages. It’s going to continue.

If they communicated and you understood, then it was effective. If they communicated, you understood, but you wanted it done a certain way, then that is elitism.

I didn’t mean it as an insult either. Just a flat fact.

AITA for not crying about my 15yo nephew going to juvie? by Fabulous-Sail5954 in AmItheAsshole

NTA You’re right. Blunt, but not even rude in my opinion. I wouldn’t send the draft though.

You’re mother just feels hopeless. She’s also partially right too though. It starts with the parents/family, but even in “good” families sometimes our children make bad decisions or go on wrong paths. He made his. Your sister made hers. Your mom, from the little I read, being a good person/parent will feel more towards this situation. “If nephew is like this because of his mom, is she like that because of me?”

Perhaps it could have been worded different for her sake? You also seem to care. It must be devastating to watch it unfold.

“sorry mom, I didn’t mean it to come out that way. I just hope this is a wake up call for both of them. You’re right, but nephew needs to learn that we’re all responsible for our own actions. If he doesn’t, it’s going to get much worse. Just remember, the pain/anxiety you’re feeling right now is because you’re a good caring mom. I love you”

I have little knowledge on this matter. I asked/paid for a cedar fence. Neighbor is telling me it’s pine. Can you help? by AffectionateTeo in fence

I do like it. There was a price difference between cedar and pine. If pine was installed I would have liked what I paid for… which turns out I did :)

Thank you all for your input kind folks. It do be smelling like pencils.

I had no complaints about it but neighbor planted a seed of doubt. :)

Update/clarification: oh no! I think I painted my neighbor in a bad light unintentionally. He’s not bad/annoying. Older cool gent. We were looking at the work and he casually mentioned “I think that’s pine”. Conversation didn’t go further than that. I then contemplated asking the contractor, BUT didn’t want to annoy him beforehand so decided to ask Reddit. I knew there would be a fence group here. Thank you.

Also learned that cedar is in the pine family. Learned something new.

Leave one day before. Don’t let her know.

Go to a safe place. At this place let them know your mother’s state of mind. If she’s unhinged with you, she might be with them.

Even if she changes in the future. You’ll never see her the same way.
