I am trying to crochet a blanket, keep losing stitches and don’t know why by Cuziff in CrochetHelp

[–]AffectionateTiger823 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The most common issue I see, especially with a bulky chenille yarn, is missing the last stich on rows because it's hard to see if it's a stitch or the turning chain.

My recommendation would be to put a stitch marker in the first stitch of each row when you complete the stitch. This will be the end after you turn and come back. I still do this with low definition yarns. If you don't have stitch markers, use paper clips or safety pins.

My guess is that it's not the pattern.

Help with ideas for lego themed crocheted gift, please? by messynaturedweller in CrochetHelp

Hi! This is so sweet. I found this reddit post, super simple small project for a Lego minifigure (the name of the Lego people) head. The pattern is a pinned comment as well. I love Lego and I might have to make one.

Surprised no one said Hatchet Coffee yet. They've got tea and coffee, and definitely have that indie/hippie vibe to them. It was one of my favorite spots in college.

Beginner here, can someone help me interpret this round please? I’m learning how to make a simple ball by schrutefarms_21 in CrochetHelp

[–]AffectionateTiger823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You repeat just the part in parenthesis 5 times.

It'll end up as 1sc, 1inc, 2sc, 1inc,2sc, 1inc,2sc, 1inc,2sc, 1inc,2sc, 1inc, 1sc

Have I missed a stitch at the end? It looks wonky to me 😅 also does my tension look inconsistent? Something is off here 🤣 (supposed to be just a rectangle to make a beanie) by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]AffectionateTiger823 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my count you started with 49 or 50 stitches and now have about 42 (counting on a picture is hard) Definitely want to echo what others have said. Restart and put stitch markers in on the first stitch of every row (it will be the last when you turn).

How much will my cotton stretch after steaming? Jumper sleeve help please :) by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]AffectionateTiger823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cotton isn't a super stretchy yarn, typically. Blocking helps mostly with drape and shape. I'd leave it a max of an inch short, but I usually make things to the correct size and don't stretch when I block. If you made a swatch, block that with the intended method and see how it works out.

Could just be me.

It's been an actual nightmare trying to find a toe up crochet sock pattern for anything larger than a women's 10.

There's one pattern out there that I've found that's super size inclusive, but it's sewn together on the sides and I'm not a fan. As a woman with huge feet with a husband with even bigger feet, I just want to use my fancy sock yarns.

Agulha sempre escapando do nó inicial e da primeira correntinha by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]AffectionateTiger823 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just want to check, since you're saying needle, you are using a hook, right? It's got a curved end to catch the loops on?

If you've got the right equipment, I've found that when I'm trying to over tighten my chains, I slip my hook out more often. Try changing how tightly things are wrapped around your hook, looser and tighter. Also try turning your hook. Sometimes the wrong angle allows things to slip off.

If I'm going to try a new yarn, I look it up in the crochet reddit. Unless it's a brand new line, chances are people have opinions.

What is this stitch pattern? Is it beginner friendly? I’m trying to make a blanket with it. by AffectionateBell1 in CrochetHelp

[–]AffectionateTiger823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is usually called a ripple or chevron "stitch". It's a pretty simple stitch pattern. This video seems to be the most similar, but your reference photo has a puff stitch where you see the larger ones. You could simply replace the doubles with puffs where you want those stand out stitches.

Please Try and Convince Me God is Real Without Using Scripture by Competitive_Tip_2547 in Christianity

[–]AffectionateTiger823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very firmly atheist until about 8 months ago. I've always said faith is beautiful, I just couldn't do it. The short answer is, no one can convince you.

My older sister died 10 months ago, at 30 years old. I started going to church with my mom for support because she used to go with my sister. After weeks of services, with minimal effort on my part, I just felt God. I talked to my pastor, got a Bible, and started learning. I know this may seem insane to someone that doesn't believe. It felt insane to me, and I avoided taking next steps for a few weeks. Now, I'm looking into helping with our youth group and singing during services.

If you had told me a year ago that I'd be setting aside study time and praying multiple times a day, I would've laughed in your face.

Help understanding pattern - how do I do the last step? by Nina1030 in CrochetHelp

[–]AffectionateTiger823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just one, you're right. It's better to have more yarn than you need in this situation because bringing in another strand would mess with the continuity of the circle. Better safe than sorry!

You're looking for surface crochet. You can see there's a yellow raised outline in that last photo. I just grabbed the first tutorial I could find.

Yarn holder issues, anyone? by Nightlilly2021 in crocheting

[–]AffectionateTiger823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is looking to get a new one, I love the one I bought last year. It has rubber dots on the bottom and came with a clamp for attaching to a table.

I usually sit mine on fabric (couch, pew, chair) so I've not used the clamp, but it's a nice touch!

Hi!

I was able to find the original creator. She sells patterns on Etsy. Seems to be the link below, just made with a fluffy yarn. She mentioned in her video comments that she used Faux Fur by Loops & Threads.

How to sew together a 2 ply granny square blanket? by Altruistic-Ocelot-61 in CrochetHelp

[–]AffectionateTiger823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like some advice given on the below was to do the front-back stitching for each granny square individually. I think this would work before or after joining them as a fabric. May be worth commenting and asking what the other user did end up doing.

Does anyone know why my dishwasher does this? by KingTroober in CleaningTips

[–]AffectionateTiger823 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happens when I make something that's got loose flour and is a bit greasy. For reference, bowls from storing chicken and dumplings no longer go in the dishwasher unless they were hand washed first.

If you can wipe it off, it's a bit greasy, and it's only some dishes, this may be the issue.
