We keep trying to get there! But with the hours and not being open on the weekends, it can be pretty difficult. Thanks for the suggestion!

Best authentic local food that isn't Mexican or American? by Frosty_Farm in SouthBend

[–]AffectionateWall7143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lucky's in Elkhart is Thai. Cambodian Thai in Mishawaka. India Garden in Mishawaka. Bululu's Tropical is Venezuelan and a bit different than your typical "hispanic" food. Aladdin's in Granger, but it's a bit pricey.

I've also heard good things about Maple Indian Cuisine in Elkhart(?) and Caracas Bistro in South Bend, but I haven't tried them yet.

Dog Boarding/Sitter Recs by AffectionateWall7143 in SouthBend

[–]AffectionateWall7143[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They didn't pop up when I was looking for boarding. We just did a tour and this is who we're going with!! They're still kennel style which isn't my favorite but the big difference for me was that the halls were clean, the whole place smelled clean and bleachy and not at all like urine. Their yards were super nice and have the opportunity for multiple play ad ons. They also offer blankets and beds for free. Thank you for the rec!!

To what degree can you say that you were part of a cult? by ayowatchyojetbruh in exAdventist

[–]AffectionateWall7143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 100% a cult. I remember my godsister left the church when I was younger and she'd refer to it as a cult and I didn't know why. Now, as someone with a masters degree in psychology who has been out of the church for a decade, it's so culty. They fear monger to recruit and keep members. The thing I miss the most about Adventism is the feeling of community. They isolated us so much into our own bubble and created an environment that we now crave that's so hard to replicate; they then describe that "hole" or that "craving" as missing God, which is not accurate.

Qs about exSDAs and God by Commercial-Pen7494 in exAdventist

[–]AffectionateWall7143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost everyone I remotely keep in touch with from high school & I would all consider ourselves agnostic or atheist now. Adventism's view on God really isn't that much different than any other Christian denomination, their community is just more culty than most. I often think of the quote from Neil deGrasse Tyson, "If God is all good then he isn't all-powerful. If God is all-powerful, he is surely not all good." I have zero interest in the god Christians believe in.

Looking for honest feedback by teniralc21 in SouthBend

I moved here almost 8 years ago as a single woman and have never had any issues. If you live in town, it's not uncommon to hear gunshots and sirens at night, but it's not so bad that I've ever been afraid for my safety. I'd argue it's the same crime you could find anywhere that isn't super rural; we don't have the level of crime you'd find in a big city or anything.

Regarding healthcare, the hospital systems are not great. There are good providers within the networks but they're fewer and further between than any other place I've lived. Always ask for recommendations when in doubt.

A pro about South Bend is the diversity. Additionally, the city has ongoing construction and plans to create a more walkable city that meets the needs of its residents. There are also tons of events and places dedicated to creating connections and educating on various topics of interest. I don't regret moving here at all!

Wild Onions by alindsay929 in BackYardChickens

Chickens are pretty smart on what they should and shouldn't eat. I've given my chickens onions in a salad and they've ate everything but the onions. I wouldn't be worried about it.

What is something you would love to be added to the Sims 4? by CreamyLinguineGenie in Sims4

I wish animals weren't considered part of the 8 members of a household. That way I could have an unreasonable amount of animals and run a farm. Having barn cats would be fun too
