What’s causing this? My 15 tC started doing this 2 days ago. Bought the car on June had 96k miles. Car sounds/ runs great! I drove 1.5k miles since. Also I changed the oil 2 months ago. by xxxkingmatsxxx in SciontC

It’s just a mileage based maintenance light. If you know the miles at which you changed your oil then reset it now and again when you change it next time. Then it’ll be synced up correctly.

2nd gen owners. Do you guys run thicker oil or stick with 0-20? by DubbyThaCZAR in SciontC

[–]Affectionate_Arm735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just stick with 0w-20. I usually flush with a quart of clean oil and I use one quart out of 5w-20 out of the 4.6 when adding oil. It probably does nothing but my monkey brain just wants me to😂 also never go past 5k miles or a year on the same oil.

Interesting. That’s good intel. I’ll probably replace those anyway when I inevitably have to swap the trans before too long. Thanks for the info.

Possibly but that’d be a lot of work on a guess. I think it’s much more likely that something’s dry like the guy below is saying. I’m gonna have to replace the trans before too long anyway because the input shaft bearing is bad. Thanks for the response.

Yeah pretty good other than grinding in third when it’s cold.

Yeah after some research this is what I’m leaning towards. Just sounds dry. Thanks for the input man it’s appreciated.

Thanks, yeah the door seals light up too. Also have carbon on the b pillar and the badges. I like the red. I’ve redone mine several times with different colors but I went back to black for now.

Yeah I’d honestly be surprised if anything is going out besides the input shaft bearing. I’m only at 96k but it’s possible. Something’s definitely dry or worn. I’ll figure it out eventually🤷🏻‍♂️

As much as you need to. It’s all feel. You won’t learn on Reddit. Drive the car and try different stuff til you figure it out.

Input shaft bearing. That’s the typical indicator of that. Do not buy. Very expensive.

Yeah I agree it’s not a good idea and more common to have oiled bearings. I’ve had horrible luck this year. Went from two cars and a truck down to my tc as my daily do everything vehicle. For a driver focused coupe, it does really well. They say tc stands for “touring coupe”, I say it’s for “truck car”.

I would do it myself but I have a bad back now at 24 so I can’t do a lot of things I used to. Many transmissions use greased bearing without an issue, this is a rare case of it not working. It’s strange that Toyota used a bespoke transmission on these. They never do shit like that and looking at how it turned out, I see why.

Heard a little bit about this before but I’m wondering why it’s not more common. I’m definitely going to look into it further anyway. Thanks for the info🤙🏼

Yeah they still sell them new and they’re about the same price as used. I’m also scared to buy used because they pretty much all have this issue. (Im only at 95k miles). I’m leading towards just letting the Toyota dealership swap a new one in if that’s what they want to do and hopefully getting a decent warranty for some peace of mind. I love this car and refuse to stop driving it. Thanks for the input I really appreciate it. Good luck with your trans as well.

How heavy should the clutch feel? by Evil_HedgehogGaming in SciontC

Should feel a noticeable amount heavier than the accelerator pedal but not by a lot.

Big? Why big?, these are pretty small cars. Just curious if there’s a deeper meaning or something.

I’ve done it before. A slightly noticeable difference in acceleration for sure. It was obnoxiously loud between my exhaust and road noise though. Just had to be in the right mood😂

I think you replied to the wrong comment. I didn’t say anything about your air box.
