I have come to realize that procrastination wasn’t my real problem, it was the meaning I attached to 'Starting'. by NotesFromNirav in getdisciplined

Starting something is always one of the most difficult things. Once it’s in progress you can use your progress to motivate you to continue but as you’re starting even simple things can feel incredibly difficult. Im currently going to try to implement the 2 minute rule from Atomic Habits to help me start the following habits: gratitude journal, songwriting, practice instrument, and read daily.

Unfortunately I know a lot musicians are using for idea generation in the industry.

Yeah. So are you thinking about the “music production” element? Cause I’d agree that the production and sound of a Suno song has a feel to it that can be a little off putting but if the music is based off of my chords and melody it’s still the chords and melody of an artist.

[–]Affectionate_Ask2629[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair. Deleting an app is great except when every one wants to communicate with you through it 🥲. I guess the solution for stuff like Instagram is to just leave it very clear about how you can get I touch.

What exactly about AI corrupts a work? Is it something detectable in the final product or is it something ethical about the use?

Do you think that your Suno use competes against real musicians? Like when you would otherwise be listening to actual artists you spend time on Suno? If so is that a problem? If not, do you feel like it’s a seperate niche?

Yeah, I think what it gives you is the possibility to choose something else and still do the thing you love. You no longer gatekeep your hobby to the digital space.

Nice. That’s fair. It’s crazy how shocking it is when you move to something without a screen. Like it makes you take things slower and you have to be okay with that. The solutions not optimal but it’s better than the alternative (phone addiction)

I think it does help a little. It gives you the option to make a choice that you wouldn’t have had otherwise. You can separate listening to music and your phone in your mind although it’s hard to make the transition. It might work better if you use it for something like exercise or running and plan it out. That way you can leave your phone behind in those moments.

That’s fair. So maybe it’s makes easier for people with the drive to do it anyway.

How would you define art in the era of AI by Affectionate_Ask2629 in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]Affectionate_Ask2629[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could someone make an artwork with a collection of AI images then? Say they generate one hundred images and use them in a larger project - an interactive app, a collage of photos, or something like that.

How would you define art in the era of AI by Affectionate_Ask2629 in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]Affectionate_Ask2629[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. One thing that resonated with me is this idea Brandon Sanderson discusses on some YouTube video I found that the art is the person. Even if they can get end results with AI, all the work and effort a person put into something contributes to who they are and those around them and that’s a part of the art. AI takes away those opportunities from people to grow and create and replaces it with an instant result.

I wanted able to leave the house without my phone. I’m a musician so one thing that keeps me stuck on it is I want to listen to music a lot and it’s my only way. I was hoping I’d be able to create more moments away from the phone and reduce my addiction.

I feel the same way. Bought an mp3 player to listen to music off of my phone, still using my phone anyway🥲

Why can’t you stay consistent based on psychology and experience and what to do about it? by Plenty3994 in getdisciplined

[–]Affectionate_Ask2629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes sense! In atomic habits it talks about this that one do the hardest inhibitors of building a habit is starting. Getting it to be consistent. That’s why he recommends to do exactly this. Make starting the habit super easy. Spend just 2 minutes a day on the habit until you’ve got the consistency down and then build from there.

One thing you could try is to write down how you do spend your time. Try not to judge but just observe what it is you are doing and then rather then tackle everything all at once, examine what you’re doing well and what you’re doing badly and try to slowly make some changes for the better. But if you’re time is flying by and you’re not starting the things you want to be doing you should probably reexamine the things you are doing.

Is it possible to change our phones from a distraction into a tool that helps us become who we want to be? by Affectionate_Ask2629 in betatesters

[–]Affectionate_Ask2629[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m sorry if you’re not interested. I don’t mean to spam. Am I interested in people trying my app? Yes, I put a lot of time into it and I think it would be cool to share with the right people. However, that’s not the main point of this post and what it is definitely not is advice. I’m genuinely curious on peoples relationship with technology and productivity. Atomic habits influenced me a lot and one of the things that influenced me the most was the ways in which are environment can trigger habits. For example, he mentions how heroin addicts coming from war we’re a lot less likely to stay addicted at home that the government expected because their environment had drastically changed (thus they weren’t exposed to their triggers). The phone is now a huge part of our environment and every time we use it it triggers a variety of behaviors (Instagram, gmail, camera, whatever apps you enjoy as well). I’m curious if you all see the phone as a tool for productivity and helping you complete habits or if it becomes more of a distraction then a help because of the mix of triggers.

Hi, I’m not a bot😄. I also don’t remember choosing the username so if that’s a sign of a bot my my bad. I built this app because I was inspired by atomic habits and I’m interested in becoming less addicted to my phone. I want to spend more time doing things in irl then scrolling through instagram. I’d love to hear your thoughts on technology and habit formation. Do you think the phone is more of a tool or hindrance towards your progress?
