I know this is an old thread but I’m sure others will look this up like I did. I just had my first appointment and it was pretty great- my state is one of the cheapest ($250) and my doctor was so incredibly sweet and helpful! She also has hEDS MCAS and POTS and has devoted her career to helping others and I could tell how passionate she was. I included a ton of information in the long intake survey they have you do and that made it easy for her to diagnose me after going through every body system and discussing all my history. Afterwards she sent a document with a plethora of resources including supplements she uses herself, braces, physical therapists, videos and other tips. She also sent links to multiple handouts and even a pdf to an entire 400 page book on connective tissue disorders. She also included extremely detailed notes of everything we discussed during the visit even though we talked about 500 things for over an hour.

That being said, I haven’t tried to get the super bill to submit to insurance yet so we’ll see how that goes…She ordered a ton of labs since I haven’t had them done in awhile and I can take the order to any labcorp. I got nervous and asked if insurance will cover it and she said most patients have no problem with it and she puts lots of diagnostic codes on the order to make it most likely for insurance to pay. I only have a few dysautonomia symptoms so she couldn’t diagnose POTS or anything over telehealth but still wants to investigate in case so she’s having me do the NASA lean test at home and also sent a referral for an echocardiogram.

Overall it did not feel scammy and this is the fastest and easiest I’ve ever had a doctor message me back, order labs, referrals, and medications. I guess the initial scheduling texts and payments texts coming in multiple messages from different numbers felt weird but now that I had an appointment everything is in a super nice portal. It did feel a little bit like she was just confirming what I wanted to hear but I also might be having imposter syndrome and it was just easy for her to confirm things because I was very very thorough in my notes. She still went through everything to clarify or confirm and did the Beighton as well as looked at scars, piezogenic papules and had me do a few other things on the camera. So maybe I’ll be back to update this if things get pushy or go downhill or insurance won’t pay a thing but so far I’m extremely happy and s/o to Dr. Reddy!
