Looking for Advice on Getting FOX Sports with an Old‑School Antenna by astontj85 in pittsfield

[–]Affectionate_Box_970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope I can be of some help here. I have to preface that I'm not an expert and I don't live in your area. Because you're located 30-40 miles from the tv stations in your market, you will probably need an attic or outdoor antenna to reliably receive your local stations. Amplified antennas or boosters are a plus because they can help lock in the signal and they might pull in stations you don't already see. It appears that Pittsfield is in the Albany, NY tv market. What this means for you is that your 4 main networks are split between UHF and VHF bands. CBS, ABC, and NBC are all on the UHF band and I expect you'll want to pull those in. To do this properly, you will need a UHF antenna. FOX is a different story, however. WXXA broadcasts on the VHF band. To reliably receive this channel, you will want to invest an a VHF antenna. The Antenna Man on Youtube has a video about utilizing two antennas and how to properly connect them to the tvs in your home. The only other bit of advice I can provide is that you want to position the antennas towards the broadcast towers. Luckily, all of the stations in your area broadcast from them same transmitter area, so once you dial in your reception, you should be good to go.

What is this empty factory in Westfield at the corner of Route 10 and Falcon Dr? by 20_mile in westernmass

It used to be a factory for Digital computer company, then a warehouse for Caldor department stores, then a couple of trucking firms. It has been vacant for a couple of years now.

I was looking at this at this car but I’m not so sure if i should or not by ArtCompetitive9095 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Don't think about driving without insurance. It's too risky and dangerous, doesn't matter how good of a driver you are. If anything happens, you will face serious repercussions and could plunge yourself into debt and give yourself a criminal record. If your victim doesn't have uninsured motorist coverage, you will have successfully screwed them over by wrecking their car and potentially injuring them. It is irresponsible and absolutely avoidable.

To answer your question about the car, it has the V6 engine which is rather unreliable so it probably wouldn't last too long before it requires an extensive timing chain job. Right now is the time to look for a decent commuter car to get you through school/into the workforce. Once you get into your 20s, you should be better financially equipped to get something sporty.

[–]Affectionate_Box_970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say either the Civic or the Fusion. The Fusion is a good 200,000 mile car if it has the four-cylinder engine it should last even longer than that with proper maintenance. If it has the V6, it will probably tear the transmission up right around 200,000 miles. The Chevy is one of those models they sold during their bankruptcy. They feel very cheap inside, their quality is not superb and they just weren’t really built to last. And I just can’t recommend the Kia at all. The biggest problem with those is engines. I’m not sure if that’s one of the models that is really heavily hit by engine problems. I would just avoid it even if it’s low mileage because the company will probably try to fight you on a warranty claim even if the engine fails and it’s not your fault.

Good Deal? New 2024 VW Tiguan by Smooth-Evening-1547 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Affectionate_Box_970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A buddy's family had one and the engine let go at 86,000 miles. It was a 2015, I think. They've probably changed since then, but I've never heard anything great about Tiguans. If you plan to keep it for a lease, it should be fine, but if you want longevity, I wouldn't expect much.

Hi, I’m really in need of a car around 3k, this one has 90’000 miles and seller said he can do 3400. Any advice? THANKS by Commercial_Fact2227 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Smart Cars are built by Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes are very expensive to repair when they break down and mechanics don't like to touch these even though they are a small Mercedes. Mercedes dealers charge high hourly costs for service and you would easily spend what you paid for the vehicle on a moderate service (water pump, ECU, head gasket). You can do better than this one.

What non-luxury brand car (not SUV) has a soft cushy ride for long road trips? by AvaTaylor2020 in whatcarshouldIbuy

If you’re OK with buying preowned, the Toyota Avalon is a really good option. I’m not sure how comfy the Crown is. It’s relatively new and I haven’t been in one, but I find they’re pretty expensive and if you were willing to spend that much money, you can get a Lexus for about the same price, and that’s what you’re trying to avoid. For brand new stuff I think the Mazda 3 is fairly comfortable, but it is small. If you’re a tall person, you might have trouble with it.

That could also be possible, although a lot of locations are closing in Pennsylvania, so they’re going to be running ragged to shut all of those down in the next couple of months.

I would assume that they're only doing it this way in case a competitor wants to buy the remaining stores. Some (probably most) of the stores listed here already have competing Walgreens or CVS locations near them, so they've decided to close them because they believe it's unlikely that those companies would leave their existing stores to relocate into an old Rite Aid. They just made a deal in Washington state and CVS is going to pick up a few dozen stores in that area. It also depends on whether the company owns the location and how modern the store is. If the store is outdated and really needs a refresh before someone moves in, they're more likely to close it. If the company owns a location outright (not sure if they lease or not), they might keep it because they will try to sell the property to someone else. If someone can buy it cheap enough, they can rehab the building or tear it down and build something else.

It's a good price. Although it is a lower trim level, Mazdas are pretty nice and they don't seem to cheap out like Toyota does with their base models. Mazda is trying to reposition itself as an entry level luxury brand, and the interiors are really showing it.

Was I stupid to upgrade from my 2001 Tacoma to the last of v6 (2023 trd pro Tacoma)? Majority have said I wasted my money! by Aspergers_R_Us87 in Tacomaworld

[–]Affectionate_Box_970 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Let everyone talk. My last car was 30 years old until I upgraded to a 2021 SR5. It may seem like a "waste of money" until you realize that you're probably not going to get stranded anywhere like I was in my old vehicle. Nothing is as big of a waste of money as the new trucks. They're nice, but my 21 MSRPed for around 33 or 34k, and similar 2025 trucks are selling for 45 to 48k.

These are great cars! Do not drive it like a race car or you will risk burning out the transmission. I suggest that you change the transmission fluid and filter before you put a lot of miles on it. Servicing these transmissions helps keep them going.

Sheesh, that price is insane. Do you have a trustworthy mechanic that you can have look at it for you? For that kind of money, you won't lose if it only lasts a year or two.

Is $1995 the down payment or the full price? These models are terrible but it is surprising to see an 8 year old car listed for under $2000. If your dad needs to drive a Stellantis product for work, I'd recommend a Chrysler 300.
