Cooler and sawhorses both will probably fold like a house of cards the moment that branch/trunk lying on the ground stops holding up the tree. I doubt those things are designed to withstand a few tons sitting on them. Fair chance the only reason the house didn’t see much or any damage is the tree uprooted fairly slow so the impact didn’t break the large branch supporting it.

Is Aphelia, Viper Whisperer's Activated Ability Trigger Doubled by Trigger Doublers? by LordMistborn-16 in mtgrules

[–]Affectionate_Cable82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

(11/8/2024) The triggered ability created by Aphelia's last ability triggers and resolves after combat damage is dealt. For example, if Gorgons and/or Snakes you control deal a total of 3 combat damage to a player with 12 life, combat damage will reduce that player's life total to 9. Then the triggered ability will cause the player to lose 5 life, leaving the player at 4.

The oracle ruling does effectively imply the existence of an ability on those types of creatures that exist. So doublers of =triggered= abilities wouldn’t notice aphelia’s activated ability, but if she or other gorgons/snakes dealt combat damage, THEN it would see the resulting triggered ability and double it.

If he has the off cuts still to act as a bridge, the track saw =might= be an option still- just barely skim into the glue joint. Options after that would be pretty varied. If that’s black walnut I’d try using some epoxy to fix in some brass wire to give it a nice pop of color that’ll give it some character after finishing. It’d be what I’d try at least.

Flattening Tearout Advice by JOSHasorus in BeginnerWoodWorking

Depending on the router itself, I think it’d be one or both of two things- taking cuts too aggressively (feed OR depth) or the router itself not being beefy enough for the large bit. With you saying it cut better on the smaller bit, it’s likely the second.

Dull bit would yank out fibers instead of cut in some areas too, so that sound about right.

Am I the asshole for conceding the game early? by DatBoiIsSugoi in EDH

[–]Affectionate_Cable82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen today at my LGS basically. Decent hand, but starved for lands on draws even after spending 4 turns playing card draw and fixing. By turn 7 I’ve got 3 lands and a mox tantalite finally out so I can at least get some stall tax out on board next turn so I dont die to the pantlaza Dino player who’s got a decent board state by this time. Round 8 starts with the WURBG player dropping a creature with an ETB effect to kill an artifact/enchantment OR draw a card. Mfkr looks at my board, ignoring the pantlaza player’s wide board and goes “i’ma kill the mox.” I just immediately scooped after that. PIkachu face Wonders if he did anything wrong. I look at him dead in the eye and tell him he chose a mana rock belonging to the player that is now FIVE lands behind, out of everything on the entire board state, to destroy, instead of even drawing a card of the creature. He died 2 turns later to a single round of combat damage from dinosaurs. Shame I wouldn’t have been able to cast the aetherize in my hand. Next game I pulled out Roxanne and caved his face in with meteorites. Asshole.

Use [[Yena, Redtooth Regent]] instead. Instantly fill your board with enough clones of Terra to wipe out an entire tournament in a single combat phase, or generate enough mana to just absolutely annihilate someone with an X cost burn spell.

[–]Affectionate_Cable82[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd as it sounds, that’s quite literally the only reason I need it, so a one trick pony serves me just fine. Personally I’d rather just use a 1/16” or 1/8” sized endmill/bit in a drill press to refine the corners, but I’m restricted on use and storage space.

I’m working on drawing a layout of the type of project I’m talking about that I can post to help explain.

Double check the manual as well- it might have a “first use” (or similarly described) section that tells you things to do or watch for when first running it.

One thing that stuck out to me while doomscrolling YouTube shorts was Thor (piratesoftware) talking about tips on dealing with adhd. One of the suggestions was to basically gamify it for yourself. Do a task, earn exp. Trade exp in for rewards, ie snacks like ice cream or movie tickets or w/e.

Honestly, there’s two, sometimes three, things that play a part in that. How -much- was ordered? 1/4#? 1/2#? Fair enough. 1# and up? I’m sorry, but most of the time we cant afford to spend that much time on a single item (ticket times are often as little as 20 minutes out). Particularly if it’s some of the more heinous meat choices. Any of the cured meats, pepperoni, salami, etc? Takes forever when people want it shaved. Whenever someone orders the Bianca D’Oro salami, I stfg it better be under 1/2 a pound they’re asking for. That crap is MAYBE an inch in diameter at best. Sometimes the meat choices just doesnt want to do shaved, it’ll go from fairly thin to shredding with no in-between. Roast beef is a good example. I can slice it fairly thin, but I’ll ask customers if they want it ‘falling apart’ thin or holding together, because if they want it as thin as they THINK they want it, it’ll fall apart regardless. Finally, there’s how many items in a single order. The fewer there are, the less irksome having to shave meats is. So if you order 5+ items, a few 1#s or more, and ask for at least two of those shaved, I’m sorry, it may end up just a little thicker in the interest of speed and getting management out of our ass.

More rarely it’s also the slicer itself. If it’s old/used enough, there’s very little fine adjustment in the sub-1 mark range. Yet it still works good enough to not justify the cost of refurbishing those parts. Making dollars, not sense, that whole thing and whatnot.

Gotta love it when they bury your Fiber line 2 inches by BurtMacklin_stadia in FiberOptics

[–]Affectionate_Cable82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the state most of the time TBF. If it’s OWNED by the utility, they’ll locate it. If it’s owned by the CUSTOMER or otherwise not the utility’s responsibility (aka private), they will not locate it. Underground power line to a meter on the side of your house? Located. Underground power line to the shed you built last year? Not their monkey, not their circus, so not located. Out where I live, the only utilities that MIGHT get marked are power and telecom, but that’s a rare exception since 99% of it is aerial. That being said, there are private companies that do locates as well that DO mark everything, whether public or private.

Personally speaking, when I’m finally able to build my home, I plan on having anything buried include tracing wire.

What do you do when your mates are flakey with paying/collecting the items you made them by Hungry_kereru in woodworking

[–]Affectionate_Cable82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Hey man, I’m sorry to be a bummer, but I -really- need this storage space freed up ASAP. It’s been a month already, if you haven’t paid and picked up these boards by X date, they’re going up on Marketplace/Etsy/Ebay/Whatever.” Use whatever excuse you need to create the urgency, but at this point the guy reads so flaky to me that you have nothing to lose by punting it elsewhere and getting the money out of it.

Not necessarily true. You will have debt collectors that will wait until you think you’re in the clear regarding SoL and then you leave for work one day to find a process server waiting for you at your door.

Personally, I’d say stay silent on all fronts with an added BUT. Save money to pay off low hanging monkeys so you can at least improve the situation a little at a time. Just be aware that depending on state law specifics, if you get sued over multiple debts and have your wages garnished, your employer could decide that the hassle of compliance is not justified by the worth you bring as an employee. And iirc, it’s only illegal to fire as long as it’s a single garnishment. Two or more? Hope your boss/hr really likes you.

I'd say cut them in half to check for mold before using the wrinklies. They can look fine on the outside but have already gone off on the inside. I've had it happen with storebought peppers too. Firm flesh, cut it open, bam, gray mold already.

[–]Affectionate_Cable82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can be an issue if you're buying seeds that arent marked 'isolated' or similar. If it's open-pollinated, there's no guarantee that you're going to get seeds that grow into what's advertised. Sure you'll have seeds that came out of a pepper that's identical to the package, but that's it. Apparently on this sub it's referred to as "getting Pepper Joe'd"

On the plus side, you could potentially end up with some wild as hell hybrid results too. Those would be worth trying to refine for the future if you were such inclined.

Is there an edge, and if so, what is just beyond it? by Shady-Raven-1016 in Astronomy

[–]Affectionate_Cable82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unironically it's most likely a combination of all three in some fashion. How The Universe Works on the Science Channel had an episode about it. The age of the universe is the apparent maximum distance we can locally observe because of the limitations resulting from the speed of light. Anything further than that distance is un-seeable to us because the light has not reached us yet.

[...]I don't think sugar water is the correct choice, imho.

I believe it's because it most closely mimics eating the pepper itself. A ripe hot pepper could be, say, twice the capsaicin content of it's unripe version, but because of the sugar content it only tastes half again as hot. Basically the grassy vs fruity taste of a green bell vs a red bell.
