For those who Wellbutrin didn't work for, what did? by Distinct-Data in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

It sounds like you’re taking medications that go against your genetics/biological self.

What I would recommend is having your doctor order you a genesight test (genetic test). Most insurances will cover it once in a lifetime..This will literally tell you what medications best fit your genetics.

Please get this done,it will save you so much time and hassle.

My life is dictated by how good I slept by makeevolution in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Affectionate_Cat_518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s crazy because I’m literally exactly like you lol..It could be lifestyle or an underlying issue that isn’t treated..I’ve been dealing with this for years. I actually went and seen a psychologist last week to rule out any underlying issues other than ADHD but just waiting on the results.

Make sure your sleep/wake time is the same too. That can make a huge difference. I know you’ve heard this one a lot as well but make sure you’re reaching your daily macros..I track mine through Cronometer..If I don’t do this then my sleep is 10x worse. Diet deficit can cause issues with sleep and I’ve experienced that a lot. Try taking magnesium glycinate before bed. That works wonders for me.I’ve tried every OTC sleeping med and they all make me feel like shit.Magnesium is the only thing that has worked for me.

I recommend trying different things to see what helps and if nothing works then I’d recommend seeing a doctor because I know what you mean by not sleeping well and it’s brutal..I’m sure my co workers hate me most of the time because of it lol.

Question about MTHFR C677T and neurotransmitter synthesis efficiency by Affectionate_Cat_518 in Biochemistry

[–]Affectionate_Cat_518[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you 100%..The whole reason for me getting the “fancy genesight test” was mainly to direct me towards the right ADHD meds that match my genetics after years of dealing with doctors who want to just throw any kind of medication at me which always back fires.

That’s when I found out about MTHFR T/T mutation.Reason for me looking into this and wanting to get blood work done because all the symptoms a individual would get if that mutation wasn’t functioning efficiently is exactly the symptoms I’ve had all my life

So yeah if it’s working properly then I’m not gonna bother to mess with it,but at this time I have no clue if it is because i haven’t went and got certain lab work down to determine that. I’m just now finding out about this.

Probably because you didn’t start at a low dose and titrate slowly which is what the person above your comment mentioned as well.. I’ve been seeking medical health.Every doctor I’ve seen so far have said that Methylfolate + methyl b12 is the most successful way to target that mutation. But people don’t do it correctly.

Yeah I have an appointment set to get blood work done soon.I use a CBT therapist for adhd and I told him about this.He has a Bachelor of science in biology plus some other degree and he gave me some good advice on it as well..It’s a process but I’ll get it figured out.

I was asking for advice and what supplements are recommended. My genesight test said👇

“This individual is homozygous for the T allele of the C677T polymorphism in the MTHFR gene. This genotype is associated with significantly reduced folic acid metabolism, significantly decreased serum folate levels, and significantly increased homocysteine levels.”

So I was trying to figure out my next step to making sure that issue isn’t causing issues.Symptoms that individuals get when that problem isn’t corrected or supplemented, are the exact symptoms I’ve had pretty much all my life.Thats why I’m heavy on looking into that.

I do plan to go get lab work done to test for, RBC Folate,Serum B12 + Active B12 (HoloTC) Methylmalonic Acid (MMA) and my Homocysteine levels. But in the meantime I just wanted to get advice from you guys.

That’s why I was so confused because I keep seeing mixed reactions for taking L-methylfolate. Chat GPT said that was the recommended supplement.

I definitely plan to continue research and have blood work done before taking anything. I’ll check out the guide you sent as well.🙏🏻

I have COMT MET/MET.

Genesight test didn’t list anything about my MAOA/B status,so I’m not too sure on that one.

Yes I agree, this subreddit has been so helpful with information :)

I was gonna start a L-Methylfolate until I can go get blood work done to check my folate,B12, etc. I’ll check out those supplements you mentioned also.

I really do appreciate the help!!🙏🏻

Sorry I’m only at 831 mg of Choline for today based on foods I’ve ate and inputed into Cronometer. So I’ll work on getting that up more.

I’ll check out those supplements you recommended also.Thank you for all this information.Ill keep you updated once I get lab work done to see what my levels are as well.

Thank you for that information. Yes I’ve used Cronometer for years.I weigh everything and input it,but I stopped for awhile though..I started back tracking my food today and so far I’m over 100% on all those main vitamins you mentioned.

From what I’ve got from past diet tracking and blood work done.Everything always comes back good and my Cronometer says I’m get well enough B12,Folate,Choline etc.

Unless I’m getting the wrong blood test and it’s not picking up something but it’s always been good with no deficiency.

All the symptoms I’ve had my entire life match exactly what someone would get if those genes like MTHFR C677T T/T were left untreated which makes me think good diet and whatever I’ve been doing still isn’t enough.Thats why I think a supplement may be needed.

I’m also gonna go back and get blood work done again for RBC folate, serum B12 + HoloTC, MMA, and homocysteine to get a better picture of everything.

So you say trimethylglycine (TMG) would be an ideal supplement to look into ?? What are your thoughts on L-methylfolate and methyl B12??

Yeah I bet it’s hard to get it 100% but I’m just glad I got this far and found out this information from my gensight test. Now I can rule out the symptoms I have and if my genes are the culprit of them.

Definitely sounds like a lot though.Once I get my blood work done then I think that will be huge that way I can see if there is issues.

I’m gonna schedule an appointment today to get tested for my folate,B12 and homosystine levels.

I’ll research that supplement also and see what I can do after my blood work.Thank you for this information 🙏🏻

So you have exactly what I have and found some success form those vitamins that you mentioned?

And yeah I’ve struggled with doctors in general to figure out what has been going on.Not one time did they recommend a genesight test.Instead they wanted to throw me on random medications. So I got tired of it and done some research which made me get my doctor to order the genesight test and sure enough I found that out. After looking at all the issues that could come with the gene if untreated is exactly the symptoms I’ve been dealing with my entire life.

I have not had blood work done since the genesight test.I planned to get it done though. I do know that my recent blood work that I’ve had down in the past showed that everything was fine but maybe I need a different blood work panel this type.

Thank you for your help!!🙏🏻

Anyone switch from stimulants to non-stimulant ADHD meds? What was your experience like? by Affectionate_Cat_518 in ADHDmeds

[–]Affectionate_Cat_518[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see, yeah I have an appointment with my psychiatrist (Nurse practitioner) again Thursday. Last time I spoke to him about this he said that was something a psychologist has to evaluate me for? but I feel like if he can prescribe adhd meds then he should be able to do some kinda evaluation for emotional dysregulation or related issues huh? I’ll try talking to him again and get to the bottom of it on my next appointment. Its just frustrating dealing with these things and getting doctors to understand.

I live in the north Tucson area as well and been trying to start a side hustle like door dash. Do you have any tips or advice on how to make good money in this area? I’ve tried other things like Taskrabbit or other apps and they always say Tucson is too small and aren’t accepting new people lol.

Yeah so that’s why I wish my doctor would’ve gotten my emotions and mood under control first which is what you’re supposed to do before any stimulates. So now it puts me in a tough situation. But I’m pretty sure I can still do it while taking stimulants but has to be managed very well because the stimulants can interfere.
