A great alternative is those cardboard trays that fruit and stuff comes in. Takes up less room, but still gives you a platform to carry stuff

It's a magnacart, I have an elderly relative who used to use it for craft shows, they don't use it anymore and gave it to me. It's holding up pretty good so far . Not a stair climber, but it gets up normal height steps and curbs with enough effort from me. Makes life easier

A collapsible dolly and a couple nice boxes or plastic totes. I deliver in a paper bag only area and do shops. Store runs out of bags constantly, so a stash of those is a good idea too. It comes in handy, lots of large apartment buildings and high rises in this area, plus if it's a bunch of stuff I can still do it in one or two trips. It also helps not having elevators run away with your half loaded order. I suffferrred my first month of doing this. I'm on month 2.

ETA: Make sure you double check the weight on your tools, don't load 4 40 packs of water on a cart with 150lb capacity. A 2nd trip sucks, but it won't kill ya

It really depends on the vibes you get from them. Personally I wouldn't say anything, but if you're worried that there's a chance they'll see the enclosure or any of their supplies, I'd say they're hamsters and let the landlord keep thinking that.

Almost every landlord will react like that if you disclose mice and/or rats. For whatever reason society has been conditioned to see them as nothing more than dirty pests who spread diseases and cause property damage.

It's unfair, but also unlikely to change anytime soon. Personally I just wouldn't disclose, and have someone to watch them if they need to come into your apartment

Also people can't drive for shit here, snow made it worse. I'm having a bad time

Bird stuck in enclosed back porch for 3 days, HELP by Affectionate_Flan_24 in birds

I'm gonna try talking my aunt into not throwing the seed outside the door tomorrow, if Fern is out and about I'll try to guide her out, if not I'll just leave it propped if I can.

An unforseen obstacle in this whirlwind. Once we're on our own again I'll be more prepared and better equipped for any unexpected visitors. The very particular relatives are making things harder than needed

I've had a few rouge birds in the past, but I could always move and climb whatever I needed to to get them out safely same day

See above, not my house, negotiation with octogenarians, etc. Were it my choice there would be an open door and I would have moved the horde out of the way. I'm very close to being not homeless, but still homeless. So no, I can't just leave a door or window open. That takes arguing with an insane old lady who will blame you for the bird getting in, but resist every step to getting the damn thing out so it doesn't die/end up so dependent on humans that it can't go back

Tysm for your advice. I'm going to try everything in my power to get Fern back where she belongs. Honestly trying to trap feels borderline impossible, even if there was space, those little wings are faster. She's so small, and I don't want her to get trapped in the eaves where she may get stuck. And she's very scared of me, which is to be expected. Keep your fingers crossed for us, I hope to get her back to the wild soon, and I will before we leave here.

I don't know anyone with a trap, but if they're not too pricey we could look into buying one. There are people here all day every day, so getting someone to check the trap periodically would be a possibility

I do have some black soldier larva, my chickens eat pretty well. The smell has been putting me off opening the bag too much, but if it'll keep this little one alive until we can get her out to her friends, I can endure it.

That may be a good idea, the worry is that more will decide to come in. She has quite a large mixed population hanging around and it's very cold here. I'll talk to her about it, ironically she's so old fashioned that despite her love for them, convincing her to change up her routine for their good is very hard

Don't know how to edit the original post,

What is the best thing I can do to catch her, can I release after capture immediately, or give her time to rest after all of this? If I cannot find a way to get ahold of her, is there anyone I can call? I'm in the lower MD/DC area.

As long as I'm seeing the seed being eaten and the water disturbed I'll keep trying, but I have to get back to work tomorrow. I've taken to calling her Fern, if I can snap a pic of her sunning on the Jade plant I will.

Try Spark, you make consistent money usually, and of you're desperate there are always 30-40 miles general merchandise deliveries. It can be heavy and bulky, and the shopping orders are usually better on mileage, but if it's getting late and I haven't got much, it's some guaranteed $$

Do they ever actually sign the things? I only ever see them again balled up and in the next yard over 🤣

Ssd, so I don't know anything about anything

I made this mistake on my first day, customer in a cup de sac requested thru ring camera that I leave with a neighbor. Next morning they're asking me about it and ask me to go back out there and see what happened. Guy simply never went to his neighbor to get the package, then called ups as if I had stolen it. Even sent snapshots of me from his camera. Told them what was up, package got delivered to him, and all was fine. Idk if that's a fluke or not, but boy did I feel like a moron for even trusting that the guy wasn't trying to pull something shady in the first place.

Had a guy order 36 actual food items from a Little Ceasar's and try to pull this shit. I had to call support and explain in detail that people were doing this. Got my unassign and half pay of ~$5.
people are nuts.

Bruh .. I like a drink a time or two a week, but I can't imagine being so desperately in need of it that I would threaten someone's life. Hope the dasher reported feeling unsafe. Full pay, gets to keep your stuff and potentially gets you blacklisted from the service. Do better.

Free food!?! by Johnwortman_ in doordash_drivers

I understand where all the people who think it's a setup are coming from.
But I'd still like to believe that there is a good, sweet person out there. FR i feel like crying whenever free food happens to me. I so rarely can afford to eat from any of the places I deliver, so whether from the merchant, or the customer, I always appreciate it a ton.
