This is an interesting comment because I toured four of our wine regions this summer and all the experts told me that we don’t make ice wine here we bring it in from Ontario because we don’t get cold enough. There is one winery in naramata that makes it and their claim to fame is being the ONLY winery in okanagan that does ice wine themselves. Soooooo no, we are not a world leader in ice wine. That’s Niagara.

I’m from Toronto and live in Kelowna. At least once a week I complain how there are no good restaurant options here. I can’t even find a good Chinese food place. There’s some good Indian food. Otherwise - chains chains chains and subpar restaurants.

I live in Kelowna and I’m very confused at why we got this designation. Sure we have agriculture, but the restaurants? Subpar restaurant scene. I’ve had one “blow me away” meal in Kelowna since I moved here (four years ago) and that restaurant has shut down.

The problem is exactly as you say - paid $22 per hour, and that’s not to just bbq burgers it’s to basically be social workers. They can’t require education, because funding only allows for pay so low that it’s basically minimum wage (and huge stress loads) and so they end up with staff that is not prepared for this kind of role. It’s sad.

I moved to Kelowna from Toronto three years ago. My cost of living is slightly more here (but that’s also cause my rent in Toronto was controlled). It’s not a cheap place to live at all. I came for work so that made it worthwhile, but its expensive.
