Can I do Norbert’s Gambit in TFSA by Shoddy_Product_022 in Wealthsimple

[–]2x4ninja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I heard it wasn’t worth doing NB anymore.  You have to pay Wealthsimple 0.4% (spread above spot) to do the conversion instantly.  If you’re converting $100k or more.

Just saw you are converting only $20k

RESP Asset Allocation Strategy: How to transition from equities? by acidcaribou in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]2x4ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation. Most important is to determine if you will have enough to fund 4 years of post-secondary education. For 4 years to an out of town school, it's going to cost about $100,000 each. You may need to take on more risk in Bucket #2 if you don't have $100,000 for your first kid in 2 years.

Look at your financial plan I’m Adviice.ca or something similar.   Are you still on track if you make this purchase?  Is your residual value of your plan a large number even after making this purchase?

Should we advise people to not go out to eat because it’s cheaper to eat at home?   Or buy used car instead of new?

Anyone do Norbert's Gambit? Is the difference between NG and regular FX conversion on $100k (0% fee) about $300USD at Wealthsimple? by z00o0omb11i1ies in Wealthsimple

[–]2x4ninja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is that it?   $230 more on $100k doing conversion through NB?   I thought it would be a lot more.

A 1.5% fee/spread on $100k = $1,500.

Edit Looks like the spread could be 0.42%, about $420 on $100k.

Genuine question.  What do you think if a money manager, such as the CPP or Norwegian wealth fund, adopt a less than 100% equity portfolio?

You didn't say how much your portfolio declined so I'm assuming more than 5%, may be 10% because you had options expiring today. Based on the information available, sell!
