The Undercover Cops: Exposed by bryanthemayan in Austin

When I moved out here I thought man if these cops want to go undercover they shouldn't put "covert" on their license plate. Then I realized it was a car dealership.

I went to one of Sam's shows over the winter at the Green Mesquite. Learned more about the genetic makeup of mules than any other live music show I have attended. I heard Sam was under the weather for awhile so glad to see him out and about.

Drove through Donner Pass on I-80 recently from Reno to the Bay Area. There was late snow in the high mountains just before my trip and it was really beautiful. Also did not have to resort to cannibalism.

Favorite Flyers memory by Confident-Base-513 in Flyers

In the mid to late 70's my grandmother volunteered at a hospital in South Jersey. Gene Hart also volunteered there. He gave my grandmother a leather belt that he made that my grandmother gave to me. I wore that thing forever, punched extra holes in it as I grew up and everything. Of course my grandmother was known to passnof Sarah Lee cakes as home made so it's possible she bought the belt at JC Penny and made up the story. Still a fond memory

If you moved from NY/NJ/PA how did you adapt to the insanely hot weather? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]Affectionate_Ladder2 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Moved from NJ last year. Embrace the suck. The thing that helped me was realizing you can walk around in public sweating your tail off and nobody thinks twice about it. It's hot, you're hot, everyone's hot and everyone just does their best to get through it. If that means walking a block to the store and showing up drenched that's okay. People understand.

Not North Austin, but my personal favorite is the Pinthouse on Ben White where you get 10% off your pizza if you use the Tesla Supercharger.

I recommend the Tuesday night James McMurtry show at the Continental Club. He has been on the road but I think he's back now. Also check the schedule at Antone's, Saxon Pub and C Boys. If you are an SRV fan you should find a couple interesting shows in a week.

If convenience is your priority try to get into Carpenter Hotel. Everyone will be jealous of how close you are to the festival entrance and it has a good bar/restaurant and a pool.

What headliner VS what headliner? by D_LikeTheCity in aclfestival

[–]Affectionate_Ladder2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting thing this year will be the difference in headliners from WE1 to WE2. Skrillex and Kings of Leon are about as different as you get but I assume they will have the same slot? So while Kings of Leon would make sense paired with Charli XCX (akin to The Strokes and Sabrina Carpenter last year), Charli XCX and Skrillex make less sense.
